The 3 Spartan's on Locke's Team are...

Given that the description for Halo Escalation #21 has been released and we have new information:

> “The Absolute Record” part 3 — As Commander Palmer’s Spartan team battles toward the core of the Absolute Record, a powerful new combatant enters the fray! The next chapter of the Halo saga continues here in this epic six-part sequel to Spartan Ops and The Janus Key.

And the art for the comic book is this, showing clearly one of those Spartan IVs that’s in Locke’s team:

I’m led to believe that the Spartan we thought was Romeo is actually Tanaka (We’re told we’re going to see a lot more of Tanaka “really soon” in an interview with one of the writers for Escalation). The armor even looks like a Marine armor (Tanaka was one), whereas Buck’s armor looks just like an ODST armor - it makes sense. It also works with the fact that Blue Team is 2 women, 2 men, balancing the sexes on each team makes even more sense (unless Romeo’s wearing the red armor, which I doubt).

Here’s my theory and what I’ve been thinking for a while - Romeo dies in a subsequent mission on a subsequent novel (their story in the latest novel finishes up in August 2555, I think, whereas Locke becomes a Spartan just a tad later (February 2556)) and it gets Buck into Locke’s team somehow.

So the 4 Spartans on Locke’s Team are Locke himself, Tanaka, Macer and Buck.

Honestly, I really want Locke’s team to be composed of a variety of backgrounds.

Locke is pure ONI
Buck was an ODST, therefore UNSC

I would love for Macer to still be a part of Locke’s life, or even his team. I know it’s unlikely, but if she was, then she could be a part of the team that was almost “Anti-Oni” and further help cement the feeling of not having a ‘black and white right and wrong’.

Tanaka I honestly have no idea about, I know she was a civilian, then a marine, then a Spartan, and that she was in Escalation, but I never really learned much of her.

Ha! I knew the white Spartan wasnt Romeo.

You’re right, that white Spartan looks identical to the one on the cover, but it doesn’t mean it’s Tanaka does it? Isn’t it still possible she’s the red one? I really doubt that’s Macer…

As for Romeo, looks like he didn’t make the cut…

What if Romeo is their mission handler of sorts? Kinda like Spartan Miller is

I would imagine that role would be handed to Macer while Buck, Romeo and Tanaka pound the ground with Locke.

I knew it. I was saying time and time again that the white Spartan simply didn’t have a masculine body frame. That Spartan in Escalation is definitely Tanaka, so yea I think we can say that without a doubt that’s also her on Locke’s team as they have identical armor. It’s what I was hoping for as well since I really wanted Macer to be apart of Locke’s team and it seems like that’ll be the case with her likely being the red spartan.

So 343 really is going for the two teams mirroring each other.

Blue Team: Two males and two females
Locke’s Team: Two males and two females

It also lines up with 343 saying there would be plenty of strong female characters in Halo 5.

This lines up with what I have been saying about New Blood. Those that thought Buck and Romeo would be seen together must have not read the portion about how Buck specifically wants a break from Romeo. I’m shocked the word didn’t get out more, I don’t see how “It’s Romeo” threads had any weight to them…

I was keep kinda hoping to Romeo but this works too.

Been saying it from the day I finished new blood. Buck had clearly ask to get alway from everything that had to do with his old squad. He did not want to deal with them anymore.

I don’t know, I really hope Romeo is in the game. If Buck’s in there, I want his battle bro by him fighting alongside Locke.

Thank you! Someone else read the book all the way lol. I just mentioned that a few posts up. The only way I think Romeo will be in the game is if he is the ODST variant SIV. Basically I am convinced the SIV with ODST is Buck or Romeo, and the other of the two will not be on Locke’s team.

For all we know, instead of Macer, it could be Locke, Buck, Romeo, and Tanaka. I hope if Buck is in there, Romeo is there with him (battle bros 4 life).

I doubt the red spartan is Romeo unless he got a -Yoink!- change…

Very unlikely considering the red spartan clearly has a female body frame. That is clearly a female there, so no way is it Romeo.

It’s definitely Buck, and definitely not Romeo. Have any of you guys read New Blood?

After Rookie is shot in the face and Mickey joins the Insurrectionists

Buck wanted to stay away from his old squad, he was done. He was also done being leader, the strain was too much for him. That’s why he specifically asked for a transfer to a team where he wasn’t a leader. Btw, what’s with Dare and Buck? Did Buck ask Dare if they could start a relationship again? I mean, we won the war already. ASK THE QUESTION BUCK!
