With the Halo Franchise now 20 years old, do you have any favorite memory playing the Halo video games especially when it comes to playing them for the very first time?
My favorite memory was skipping school so my uncle and I could go to the midnight release of Halo 2, after that night we always meet up whenever a new Halo game comes out and go to the midnight release.
I think it has to be the first time hunting the skulls on Halo 3, someone showing me the skull on High Charity and the sequence you had to jump in the rings on the 3rd to last mission.
I have fond memories of playing through the Halo CE campaign a dozen times with my friend in his attic who had the Xbox and the game. I can pretty much dream Assault on the Control Room.
I eventually did get my own Xbox with CE and Halo 2 and spent hours breaking out of the maps in Halo 2. Even got the multiplayer DLC but never was able to play online.
When Halo 3 launched I was only able to play with my friend in his attic again and playing online was such a wondrous feeling. Actually fighting people from across the globe.
I only got my own account and 360 online in the late stages of Halo 3 but was glad to be there. My first match was on Narrows.
My first and probably favorite memory of Halo would be storming the beach during The Silent Cartographer and being in literal awe of what was in front of me. I basically fell in love with it right away. I preceded to mow down my marine buddies a few times for fun as I’d never played a game like this before where you could do that, and I was told that “Halo wasn’t my game”, apparently. Well here I am, 20 years later with countless hours sunk into the games, a whole bunch of merchandise and collectibles, a leg full of Halo tattoos, and tons and tons of memories, good and bad. Thank you Halo, for all that you’ve done for me.
It’s hard to pick one. The midnight launches, LAN parties, achievement hunting, and all the friends I’ve made throughout my countless hours of multiplayer. Halo is a big part of my life. If I had to pick one moment, it’d be the first game I played with my wife. The very first time we “met” was through a Halo Reach game night. We ended up playing all night and really hit it off. Seven years later, we got married and continue to play on a daily basis.
