Anyone ever wonder about that random crashed pelican that looked totally intact and was laying perfectly flat in the snow on the assault on the control room? The weird things are…
- What pelican is that? It reads E419, but there are no other decals.
- Why is the pelican lying completely intact? not even the engines are moved.
- How did it get there and when?
No idea right now. I’ll play through the level and think about it sometime later though.
When you first cross the bridge, when you first see that it’s snowing and Cortana mentions the weather patterns; you will hear Johnson request assistance, “This is Fire Team Zulu requesting backup immediately”, or something to that effect.
If you look over the side, you’ll see a few marines running about. A pelican will then fly by and descend to drop a warthog off. Once you get down there, you meet up with the marines and Johnson is around the bend with a tank next to a crashed pelican.
In my mind, when Johnson called in for help, a pelican carrying a warthog and one carrying a Scorpion came to his aide; the one carrying the tank was shot down as it dropped the tank, while Chief was one his way down the lift to meet up with Fire Team Zulu.
I do wonder. E419 is echo 419, so ultimately that pelican had to have been able to fly because when you get half way through the maw, Echo 419 radios in, and then crashes, so maybe it was a crash landing only from a few feet from the ground when aiding Johnson on assault on the control room.
Actually most people did not notice this but the call sign E419 is written on the majority of the Pelican drop ships. The exceptions are Vector-933 at the beginning of 343 Guilty Spark and the crashed Pelican named Bravo-022 on The Silent Cartographer.
Actually, the reasons behind those are thus:
In Halo PC, there was no such thing as “Dynamic damage” like in Halo 2 and on, so crashed pelican was the pelican model placed in such a way to look like it crashed. Also, all of the pelicans are the same because Each pelican skin takes up space in the .map file, and instead of bothering with vehicles that you don’t always have enough time to look at, they just used the same textures and model every time.
There was a pelican in Halo 3 in multiplayer. It was so close to the edge of a cliff it almost seemed possible to get to it and ride it.
So…
E419 and V933 are the respective pelicans…
B022 should of been the silent cartographer one.
However my question remains. What about the one on the Assault on the control room? I don’t remember in the book if it mentioned which pelican flew fire team Zulu in and later crashed around the corner.
This little anomaly still bugs me…
