I’ve loved it since Halo: CE when only Grunts could use it. I loved Halo: PC that let us use it in multiplayer, I loved it in Halo 2 where I’d horde ammo for it on the Arbiter missions, I loved it in Halo 3 back when Bungie used to say it couldn’t be added to matchmaking because of the horrid performance issues it would cause and I loved the new look in Reach… It has been my favorite weapon in the series since the beginning.
That being said, in Halo 4 I still love it but it kills me when I see people using it “improperly”. When I hear that “Guh-thunk” noise five times in a row I cringe! The Fuel rod cannon is a rare treat. There are only two maps that have native spawns of the elusive Fuel rod cannon and it’s even rarer as an ordinance drop… Seeing folks blast away entire clips makes me sad on so many levels. Don’t waste it people!
The Fuel rod cannon is a one-hit-kill if you get a body shot. Use it at mid range in an area with lots of corners and places to catch people off guard. The -Yoink!- thing is amazing if you use it as a precision power weapon like the railgun. The splash damage isn’t very good, don’t treat it like a rocket launcher in this game. Body shots people, I always use the ammo perk so I can get more rounds with my FRC and I can usually get 11+ kills with it before I die or run out of ammo.
Oh and I have to say, I’m overjoyed that they returned the old title of CANNON to the Fuel rod cannon. I’ve been calling it cannon since CE and have hated calling it a “gun” because it’s not. Well it’s not a cannon either but it sure does sound better.
im with ya on that one. i couldnt help but constantly laugh at my friend when he was working on maxing out fuel rod and only getting 1 or 2 kills with it. just hear an entire clip empty and have no kills to show for it. very powerful if used correctly. very pointless if used incorrectly
It’s still godly to this day lol. If your aim is on point, all you really need is to walk up with 1 shot. The greatest part about it, is that the splash damage doesn’t kill you from being in point blank range of someone else.
Trust me, I treat it with love and care. It just takes one direct shot to kill someone. Don’t waste it. Take your time, aim, and let the Fuel Rod do the rest.

Yeah, that’s one of them. When I spawn on red side I rush the rocket launcher and head to that cave to await the cannon’s spawn. The only other spawn point for it is on Exile, right next to the tank spawn.
You can definitely tell those who know who to use the mean, green machine and those who don’t.
When you see a horizontal rain of green ballistics wildly slashing across the air, that is a sign of lesser skilled individuals who hope that quantity of projectiles makes up for the lack of quality of aim.
But if you see only a few 38mm balls of death hurling at your face with precision, that is the sign of skilled individuals.
It is a great fun weapon on exile in the central area you can really get some great killstreaks going … id like to see it maybe slightly more powerful against vehicles though… sometimes u just have to get rid of the tank or gauss hog and it takes anywhere from 5 to alot more shots to kill the gauss hog…
