That Forge Lighting. We're saved!

Check it out. I’m expecting some pretty cool stuff from the forge power users.

Imagine how fantastic all these horror (infection) maps are going to be.

Summary

Oops, except with all the armor effects and outlines totally ruining the vibe.

Another amazing Forge video.

I’m getting even more excited. That Forge Council map with the moon and light beams!

The gap between Forge and Dev maps is closing fast.

35 sleeps to go.

PS. I wish 343 would do similar blogs / videos regularly for the game proper.

I’m just hoping I don’t stand out like a Glowstick like Halo 5 did, no hate on Halo 5 Forge, I just found that the Glowing Spartans made the immersion felt odd & out of place

Glad to see they’re taking Halo 5’s Forge & Improving onto it

You will be very happy after watching the video.

They specifically plunged the map into pitch black darkness and the Spartan disappeared.

Infection based maps will flourish.

So I can make a Deadspace inspired map for infection and the immersion will be there? I’m sold already

The way they talk up what Slipspace can do, I highly doubt they’re abandoning it any time soon.

My only concern is outlines. We’re gonna’ need a by-map toggle for those.

I imagine if we get forced color options…

I’ll put it this way, I imagine ranked/comp will end up seeing both used for classic Red and Blue.

Forge is built extensively on Slipspace. It would be a huge barrier to swapping engines.

Admit I was just assuming that it’s world be an option.

Probably foolish on my side.

They have invested heavily in the outline system and coatings etc.

Can’t see them going back.

As for comp? Nah. Especially if the are making MTX selling team armours.

I must be an animal, how do I open your link? I can link sites normal on threads, how come you have to space out yours?

Just hit up the news section here on Waypoint.

It’s Part 3.

Waypoint doesn’t allow certain types of YouTube links, not sure why.

Well, not a singular glow stick, imagine outlining your entire body with those thin glow sticks of whatever color your enemy chooses. Fun right?!

Did you miss my summary in the OP? Additionally, if we get any of these cool dark maps, all those fancy armor coatings are really going to be pay-to-lose.

Honestly, my expectation is that Forgers are going to have to put “For the best experience, turn off outlines” in the map descriptions for any infection or “narrative” maps. I would be surprised if 343 allowed Forgers to force outlines off. They are particularly stubborn about some(many) things, and I think that includes outlines.

I did. I didn’t realise you could have explained text links :frowning:

In their favour they did seem very keen and enthusiastic about making the Spartan disappear in the dark.

You wouldn’t think they would spend time showing the feature of it wasn’t going to be an in game feature.

Oh yes, the lighting artist was obviously passionate about his job, and excited to share the improvements. Kudos to him and all on the Forge team, it looks fantastic.

It sounds like you’ve got enough hope for the both of us though, so I’ll continue to be skeptical until we get confirmation. Which probably won’t cone until we get our hands on forge for ourselves. Maybe some Twitter users out there can pry an answer out of 343, that’s the only place there is any interaction.

And you won’t even get to file share it until March… If they don’t delay it

My suspicion is that the studio is making systemic changes to all the things that aren’t retaining players (bad shop, progression, challenges, content cadence) and they just can’t talk about them yet. Either because they’re still making iterations, or they’re biding their time so as not to cannibalize the hype from forge.

Someone on twitter mentioned it, forge lord said he’ll tell the team. Frustrating that they weren’t on top of it already.

Bingo. If they did UE5, they’d… well, have to remake the entire forge, lol.
