That First Tech Flight

I stopped playing halfway through the cyber showdown event and haven’t booted back up, but I still keep up with the news and forums hoping that the game might pull through one day.

As I was looking through the forums here today, it struck me how divided and angry the community is…and what a stark contrast it is to that weekend when the first tech flight was live. That one with the bots?

I remember everyone being so pumped, excited, talking about how the classic feel was back. The new equipment made things feel fresh without being overly intrusive.

It’s amazing how the direction 343 took this game has managed to destroy the comraderie from that weekend.

Just makes me sad, and where can I share these thoughts if not here?

The community keeps getting angrier but its making us less divided at the same time. More and more people are joining the side of hating 343 and leaving the side of defending them. Pretty soon we will all be united in anger and hate.

You’re 100% correct, if we knew then how large a chunk of the multiplayer experience we were actually getting in that tech demo I’m sure attitudes would have been much different.

I honestly think BTB breaking for over a month basically right after launch was the inflection point for the community. That’s when the exodus of players started (which never stopped) , and it just completely exasperated the content and server issues the game has.

Anger is the only thing keeping Halo Infinite relevant, or it would have died like Cyberpunk, Anthem, CoD Vanguard, and Battlefield 2042. People just care so much about Halo and want it to be good, but 343 still keeps backhanding the fans. If they don’t want to make the games or tv show for the fans, why are we even still fighting for custody of Halo? We could just leave, but Halo is our childhood for most of us, and we want to see it succeed. We just don’t want to see 343 ruin it. It’s not that we’re angry, we’re just tired of being disappointed.

That’s never a healthy way to unite people.

Agreed. I think for most, the anger is coming from a place of love. We know what makes Halo stand apart from and above other games, we see all the available potential it has to really lead amongst its competitors. Yet, instead of embracing all of the aspects that make up Halo’s unique identity in the FPS genre, 343 -with each new game- copies a key aspect of a competitor’s game in the hopes to appeal to a “broad audience”. Its always clear when it happens too because, when they listen to fan’s opinions about things and take action on them, those aspects are always a hit. Conversely, when they try to copy a core aspect of a competitor -going against all fan feedback-, it always leads to a massive fail. (examples within Infinite: challenge system, monetizing customization, FTP, live service, no progression system, etc.) Everyone’s mad because if they would just embrace what we repeatedly tell them makes Halo special -which is likely something many employees already know- and go all in on that, they would breeze past competitors and gain a massive broader audience. Instead they will likely continue tripping themselves until they just take fan advice and tie their shoes.

The company named themselves after 343 Guilty Spark, the Monitor that was known for betrayals and backstabs.

What did you expect?

343 Guilty Spark tried to prevent the destruction of the Halo rings, but 343i ironically brought the demise of Halo.

Indeed he did, though he was breaking protocol the second time around.

Halo CE had Guilty Spark betray you, having left out information about what the rings can do.

Halo 3 the priority was to activate the Halo ring to destroy the Flood, no matter the cost of the Halo Ring. And yet, even though his protocol required him to let it happen; he still refused and attacked Johnson and John.

“Protocol Dictates Action!” he spouted, even though he was breaking protocol by refusing to fire the Halo Installation until the construction was complete. Protocol required that the Halo Ring be activated ASAP in order to prevent further spread of the Flood and prevent them from managing a method to prevent the Halo Installation’s activation.

343 Industries meanwhile has been tasked with the duty of making Halo Games.
343 Guilty Spark betrayed us twice in the games.
343 Industries betrayed us twice with Call of Halo 4: Alien Warfare and Halo 5: Gorbians.

When it comes to Halo Infinite, 343 Industries has simply failed us at an actual attempt of making a Halo game.

I dunno. It’s usually how revolutions start XD

Honestly, I cannot wait until I can execute Phase Two of my Master Plan that has been in the making since 2013.

Soon Phase One will be complete, and I wouldn’t have had to lift a finger since 343 Industries is doing all the work for me to complete Phase One.

Makes me sad too, but try sharing these thoughts on Reddit. 343 might have a better chance of seeing them there.

You sure you’re remembering the times right? An hour into that first Tech Test we saw every problem this game would face, and we brought it to 343’s attention, which they ignored.

probably because the flight had an excuse… missing content isn’t new to the flights, look at the mcc flights. so it could’ve been given the benefit of the doubt. the same kinda could’ve been said when it was in beta… i mean, 343 could’ve had a good update for it when the campaign release… then nothing!
the only difference between the current state and the beta is one playlist (fiesta), price changes, and… nothing else. it has practically been the exact same. and i’m sure when people knew about this during the fight and beta… more would’ve been united and less devided at the fact that this sucks

In a sense a ironic prophecy, thats for certain. just need the “To help you reclaimer, as I always should’ve done.” arc

That is what Halo Infinite is an attempt at.
