Clamber seems to be one of the most under-ranted Spartan Abilities. Well, I’m not much of a fan of it. It’s not that I genuinely hate the core ability (I guess I do to an extent) I just hate how maps are designed around it.
For starters, crouch jumping, the skillful way of getting higher, is completely irrelevant. Why go through the trouble of timing my crouch perfectly when I can just jump and grab something? Back in H2 and H3, I’ve seen crouch jumping used quite a bit when you want to get to that ledge just out of your reach. You had to, in a way, teach yourself how to crouch jump. Now, its as simple as pushing the jump button twice. What was wrong with crouch jumping? Was it broke? Of course, Crouch Jumping wasn’t always the answer to getting to higher places, this is where the jump-stabilize-clamber combo comes in handy.
Back when clamber was introduced, I was actually quite impressed with it. This was before I mastered crouch jumping, grenade hopping, and other trick jumps. I thought “now experienced players won’t have an edge on me to get to hard-to-reach areas” But then I think about that. Shouldn’t experienced players have an edge, in even something as simple as jump height? This is an ongoing trend that goes from power weapon announcements to the decrease in radar range. These things have been altered in Halo 5 to even the delta between skilled players and unskilled players. Instead of weapon announcements, you had to memorize spawns and spawn times, not some cheesy spartan voice on the radio to tell you that. Instead of a short motion tracker that nobody uses, you had an actually decent motion tracker, that was used by skilled players to determine locations of enemies. Why does 343i want to even the playing field between skilled and unskilled players?
Last, there is the map design. I thought clamber was going to be an alternative to crouch jumping, but I was mistaken. It seems that most jumps now require clamber. I really don’t like having to press jump a second time to get somewhere. It’s so bad, it feels weird if I don’t clamber. It’s because its a habit to me now. Why did they decide to make maps around clamber? What happened to just simply jumping? 343i seemed to tone down jump height as well. Halo 2 and 3’s jump height far exceeds Halo 5’s, making clamber less of a crouch jump alternative and more of a jump+grab.
Clamber is certainly making me lazy with regards to my jumping. I don’t even crouch jump anymore, I’ll have to retrain my muscle memory because there’s many jumps you don’t even have to clamber.
There is still just as many, if not more trick jumps in Halo 5. I don’t mind clamber at all. I still crouch jump as much as I did in previous Halo games.

You don’t. You jump, you glide and someone puts a BR round through your skull.
Seriously. It feels like every time someone tries a trick jump in Halo 5, someone’s there to put an end to it.
I personally like clamber, but I see why you don’t. Also, smaller radar distance actually makes so you need more skill, instead of just hiding around the corner. It’s much harder to camp with it the way it is. You need to have way more situational awareness. Also I use the radar all the time. I don’t know why people say it’s impossible to stop a spartan charge from behind. I stop them around 75 percent of the time. You just have to be aware and know when to use the radar
Crouch-jump to clamber even higher, like the walls below the mancannons on the Monument. Also, crouch jump instead of Clamber whenever you can. Crouch jumping is faster, and you are able to shoot while doing so.

Crouch jumping is irrelevant to me. It’s a cool skill to have but… that’s it. It’s functionality is minimal, I’ve never ever been killed by someone because they can crouch jump. In any game.
Crouch jump still has use for task pros who don’t want to use precious time clambering
If a map requires couch jump to get some place, what, tell me, is the difference whether you clamber or crouch jump? You still need to push an extra button to get where you need.
clamber adds a level of mobility that prior games did not have. All the abilities allow for faster, more action packed matches that are both fun to play and watch

This. I don’t even know all the routes, because there is an overwhelming amount of different jumps one can make on nearly every map.

I have to agree, crouch jumping is still a highly regarded tactic for experienced players and I use it to my advantage wherever I can.

And that is why I can’t have a DMR or sniper rifle.
