That bulletin makes me worried about H4

A lot of talk about picking up and/or finding BRs.

The BR is a spawning weapon 343. Don’t pull a launch H3 and mess that up.

she could of just been playing a non br start gametype.

It wouldn’t be a Halo bulletin without someone becoming unduly worried about an unseen, unexplained, and unannounced element of the game.

It’s already stated that the main weapon in Halo 4 isn’t the BR. It’s most likely the AR.

BR starts belong in BR SLAYER, not in every gametype. If we spawned with BR’s in every gametype, Halo 4 would be a one gun (excluding power weapons) game, which would be lame.

It was a spawning weapon because all the other guns* sucked in Halo 3…

*excluding power weapons.

Every Halo game since Halo 2 has started with an automatic niche weapon by default, and not the utility weapon. I would really not like to continue the trend.

I’m pretty sure she was playing a non-BR start gametype…

Meh I think we need a BR/DMR utility weapon start. I don’t want to have to go through something like Halo 2 again with those horrid SMG starts.

So, you’d like all players to be handed one of the best weapons at the outset of the match? That seems like it would discourage exploration of the maps, at least if it was the default setting for all playlists.

I would. Halo CE did. That game was perfect in terms of arena combat.

Utility weapon =/= best weapon/power weapon.

There can also be multiple utility weapons, so… what’s your point?

I don’t see what the problem is. I’m sure it’ll be the same old “Primary Weapon / Secondary Weapon” customization options. So 343 could add that at any time.

Maybe the simple fact that one gun has more or less ruled multiplayer in Halo for the past decade or so, the human standard utility weapon, it’s been the perfect choice for CQC (with beat down), mid, or even long range. Get a DMR or BR and the only other weapon you’ll ever care to get is a pure power weapon, like n00bsniper (reach).

Sure, spawning with a utility weapon would be perfectly fine, especially on bigger maps, as long as the other weapons are balanced accordingly. An Assault Rifle should shred a DMR/BR user in seconds in close-mid, not “barely scratch their shield while they kill within seconds”.
However, to date every Halo has favoured the use of only one weapon, with the exception for pure power weapons. We can hope that 343i changes that and for the first time ever, gives us balanced weapons online where every gun is good, every gun has a role. the first thing you do should not be to throw away your main weapon for just about anything you find on the ground…

I’m fairly sure that the “point” of my post was self-explanatory. As to your comment that the battle rifle is not the best weapon in the game: allow me to point out two things.

First, I said “one of the best”.

Second, the fact that it has a far larger ammunition reserve than, say, a rocket launcher, could easily be seen to put it ahead of the latter in terms of utility. I never claimed that it was the most powerful weapon, after all.

That’s what got you rilled up? We don’t know what the weapon sanbox consists of yet. For all we know there is no AR, no automatics at all, and the CE magnum is the spawning weapon. The thing that got me scratching my chin were these two sentences:

> In regard to the scope in particular, traditionally, Halo has had one type of each weapon per game. Taking into consideration Halo 4’s sandbox, we went with the square scope to differentiate it from other guns and rifles that have bulky scopes on them.

Pretty muh confirms multiple weapons serving the same role? I.e., you have 4 rifles with different stats, 4 shotguns varying in stats, etc… Such a sandbox is obviously well suited to a system where you can choose your weapons, or “loadouts”. 343 have said what they’ve showed us was very “traditional” Halo, and the more extreme changes were yet to come. Is this one of 'em? If so…

Oh, and it also confirms rifles aren’t the only guns that’ll have a scope. We might be seing more of the ODST style SMG weapons…

I don’t know why anyone would want to start with a weapon that limits what they can do.
