Ok… Look through my post history… I do not complain very much! I am a good sportsman on the battlefield… I do not quit games and I do my best to not betray (meaning when I do it is totally accidental)
This morning I was playing a match of Slayer on Coliseum and I had just seen the “Plasma Trap” where you drop a plasma grenade on the blue lift… it will not explode until someone uses the lift getting you a auto kill. So I tried this out. Well it killed my teammate… twice. I got KICKED from the game and then issues a 10 minute BAN!
Seriously 343!!! Fix your banhammer… this is a joke! I have roughly 10 hours of perfect gameplay… and I have 2 betrayals in a game… that are accidental and your banhammer goes off!!! That is the worst system ever! I would normally see posts like this and be on your side saying… well the system is good and blah blah blah… but this is ridiculous! You are punishing good players because your ban hammer is set to ULTRA LIGHT!
Please fix this!
Has this happened to anyone else… how is this system so sensitive… does it not take your previous actions into account? Wow… just WOW 343 this is awful!
Also… to add salt to the wound… I had used a Boost Card… Legendary RP bonus Arena! That I got no credit for and burned because this game decided 2 mistakes in 10 hours was to much! So yay to burning a valuable REQ card!
10 minute ban!! harsh for a mistake. A good trap to set but now you get punished for enginuity.
If I’ve understood it? You now get punished for what 343 see and an infringment to the game? a game you’ve paid for and technically can’t play for whatever length of time they’ve banned you for.

because its not like the exact same thing happened in halo 3 or anything (sarcasm).
Ok so let me get this strait you team killed a friendly not once but twice, in the same game, by doing the same thing, and your upset because they didn’t like it?

Consider yourself lucky it was only for 10 minutes. Plus seriously you killed your team mate once trying that, then tried it again? And you are surprised you got banned? Sounds like the hammer is working exactly as it should.
The banhammer went off because it was twice in one game. and the guy may have marked you after the second one. I have had around 5 or 6 betrayals and have not gotten banned.
Personally I’m glad the hammer is this strict, getting teamkilled because some immature -Yoink!- wants the sniper is such an annoying thing to have in a game. same with people quitting early or intentional suiciding.

Well about an hour later I went AFK in a game of Swat because despite loving to play Halo I also had to put some towels in the dang dryer and help my wife put up groceries. Women have the most impeccable timing when it comes to asking for help. Well I was kicked for inactivity right when I sat back down. I was also banned for 10 minutes. Really guys? I can’t play because I didn’t play? And even though I paid for this you’re telling me I can’t play? Fix this.

Your circumstances do stink, helping the wife with groceries shouldn’t merit a ban. But it was only 10 minutes, not a big deal in my opinion.
BUT. Everyone on this thread is forgetting you also selected “I agree” to a certain TERMS OF SERVICE of xbox live. They reserve the right to withdraw your privelege, NOT your right, if you violate terms you agreed to.

It is working perfectly IMO. Don’t quit and don’t go AFK. Those have been the TOP complaints in Halo since Halo 2. I am so glad they are finally taking action to deal with these things. It was only 10 minutes, plenty of time to go put more towels in the dryer and put away more groceries for your wife. That was meant in good humor. No offense.

They have to chose to punish you, when it happens more than once you are given the option to report someone in game straight away, think it comes up with press X or something along those lines, you just got lucky no one has ever bothered to do so, or you haven’t annoyed em enough aha. But I’ve let people of quite a few times if i’ve seen that it was intentional or my own fault. Also a lot of what you would consider betrayals is actually forgiven by this game quite easily, say you lob a grenade to kill and enemy and an ally appears there too killing both most times the game will give the kill to the other guy rather than blame it on you. I know its meant to do this and always has but i’ve found that safety period a lot longer than previous halo’s. Like i’ve seen someone have a 1 v 1 kill em then run off round the corner which I happen to come round at the same time and crap my pants and shoot the bloke clean in the head which made him die. Didn’t count as a betrayal even though this guy had left combat a good 4-5 seconds ago yet still gave them the kill.
The reason the trap is so successful is because it goes unnoticed to people unaware that it exists. That being said, unless you tell your teammates “Hey, don’t use the lift.” you’re still kind of at fault for it.

My problem is that I do not team kill!!! Period! I watched the “Mythbusters” community video that was posted to Halo Channel showing you can set a “plasma trap” on coliseum with a plasma grenade… I thought “Cool… that’s neat, I want to try that”
So I went to Custom games… tried it, and it worked! So then I went to Arena Slayer and happened to get Coliseum (Lucky me!) I set the trap and one of my players walked into it… so I went “damn, my teammate dies” Then contemplated trying again to see if I could get the kill on the opposing team… and alas it killed another teammate! This is obviously not being done to “Team Kill” I was playing within the rules of the game and trying to help my team secure the win!
This is a warning to any other player who has a great reputation like myself that 343’s banhammer is set to very sensitive and you WILL get banned. I’m very upset that this happened and I’ll definitely be letting my teammates know the next time I set the “Plasma Trap” but this is a misstep on 343s part and the system is set to WAY to sensitive in my opinion.

I agree with you. I have had some betrayals in SWAT as well… again obvious accidents where a head gets in the way while you are shooting at an opponent. Normally I would be the guy saying the same thing as you in this kind of post… “Well you must do this all the time…” or “Ya, ya… you’re a team killer the system is perfect” But seriously… I was genuinely SHOCKED that this happened to me.
This is why I came to the forums to mention it! I love this game! I love every part of it! I’ve been playing almost every night and having a blast with my Spartan Company in Arena, Warzone and Co-op… this just caught me so off guard I had to vent and see if others have experienced this as well!
(Also… our Spartan Company even has a “NO -Yoink!-” rule… that’s how sportsmanlike we are! We are all about just having a good fun Halo time… I’m a 29 year old gamer just looking to play… not get banned!)
I played a game of Stronghold in Arena and we won. Immediately upon hearing “Victory” I was sent to the lobby and got a banhammer for 3 min. It claimed I had lost connection to the server but I was immediately able to go to the carnage report. Happened to a teammate also. I doubt both of our connections just magically dropped at the same time. I didn’t even get the win for my efforts and got banned.
