That '10 years' thing -- More Worlds Coming

So Studio Head of Infinite Chris Lee has been noted as saying that Halo Infinite is the start of the next 10 years of Halo.

Alot of people have been wondering what this means. It seems to me pretty straightforward – the campaign coming out this winter is completely set on Zeta Halo. There will not be any other worlds to explore. (Side note: Hopefully Zeta Halo has different locations with different feels. If everywhere looks like the trailer…that could get stagnant).

Any future updates to campaigns will be structured exactly like this, but with a different world (another ring, a Banished base, the Ark, I dunno) to explore, and the narrative stakes increasing each time (although hard to increase a omnipotent AI wanting to rule the galaxy…)

This seems to be the most straightforward explanation imo, which makes it the most likely.

What are your interpretations of the statement by Chris Lee? [Focusing on Campaign on my post, but feel free to comment on what you think how or would like to see how Multiplayer will evolve]

I kind of interpret Chris Lee as saying Halo might become a more living evolving game similar to Rainbow Six Siege. But only time will tell.

campaign expansions. Instead of getting another game, they will add to the current campaign, update graphics (ray tracing is a good example) etc. Slipspace is apparently very flexible meaning they build it with the intention of bolting on new systems in the future (at least, thats how I view it).

The term “live service” was always a weird one for me as I dont view it as anything new. Any game with online or multiplayer experience had additions made to it. Seems 343 just plans to make window in which additions are added much longer. The true question is whether whats there at launch is sufficient

Maybe not “Worlds” BUT i see the likely potential of Story Expansions set somewhere else on the Ring.

For Example, has Arby come back (btw 343 i would kill for a full blown Spin-Off ODST style, featuring a Squad of Elites) being somewhere else on the Ring, for the more “Stealthy” approach.

Fireteam Osiris, even though i didn’t liked them have them come back to, showing what they have been up to, maybe the Infinity crash landed on Halo and Osiris is tasked with finding Stuff to get it back into the air/space.

Alpha-9, (re)introduce them into the Game.

Doesn’t have to be different worlds per se but I definitely want to see different environments. I’ll be let down if the expansions just reuse existing environments.

This Squad of Elites idea – I absolutely love it!!! @snickerdoodle can you document this idea as official feedback, it’s a great one.

Hopefully they still update Forge with new tools/features/budget from time to time.

I see it as something that they’re hoping that they can just keep making “expansion packs” per say and not actually make a whole new game for a long time so they can maximize profits.

In reality if Halo infinite doesn’t do great or just average for a couple years or even worse bombs than I can pretty much guarantee all this will be out the window and they will completely start again.

What I don’t like is if they want to use this as their base game then that means that we’re stuck with these mechanics and everything else that comes with it (character models environment models weapons how they work and so forth) for what the next 10 years… That’s ridiculous in my opinion.

I just wish companies wouldn’t say things like this because half the time plans change and deviate just like anything else in life, stuff happens! And when that happens they just get called out for it and whatnot. They’re better off to just make the game, if the game is received well, then sure make expansion packs and whatnot, add things to the game and do it until The majority of your fan base is calling for a new game. Seems pretty simple to me.

It reminds me of Bungie’s original statements about Destiny 1 and her intentions to support him for 10 years.
Look, something that both companies share. XD

I kinda like the idea if its pulled off right. Making infinite like the mcc in a sense where there is the main game that you can launch other games from. As in not needing to close infinite and launch a different game to continue a new story/campaign. At the same time keeping multiplayer the same throughout but adding new modes, maps, and more that come out without needing to buy the next game. What it shouldn’t be is cliff hanger endings that require dlc to continue or multiplayer stuff that splits the community between people who own the “expansion” and those who don’t. Really what it comes down to is what they plan to do and if they can pull it off. We will have to wait and see what 343 comes up with.
I would love a prequel to how we lost the war on the ring initially before infinite starts.

when i first heard that statement I instantly remembered Destiny/bungie statement about committing 10 years to the destiny 2 series and my honest view of that comment when Chris Lee made it was I hope they don’t take 5-10 Years to finally polish the formula of what works.

I imagine were gonna have story Arcs in the way this is the Banished story Arc of Zeta Halo Next arc will be the Created or New threat Etc. I see it being at least 3 Arcs in total if this is indeed the route they are taking it being released Year apart from one and other.

Looking at it from I’d say the eyes of business it give people who love the story/lore another reason to re-visit the game after completing the campaign but not being much of a fan for the multiplayer I’d say its a win/win when they could easily use some of that new story content to add to the multiplayer.

I’m assuming there is another halo game coming later that builds off of infinite, much like how 3 build off of 2. Specifically game play pacing and art style.

This is somewhat concerning.
This can be done very poorly if the way the game is supported is not right.
Look at WoW, that game had a steady population for a decade. Can Infinite pull that off?

I honestly hope not. I’d rather have a halo 7 than constant campaign DLC’s for Infinite.

Bioware said the same thing about Anthem…

I think it might be like destiny with paid dlc maybe

It’s another GAAS game promising 10 years of “live service”. What could go wrong? Anthem, Destiny, Fallout 76 just off the top of my head… its a good model: Release turd, polish to a brilliant sheen.

The demo geography seems similar to that of Halo(mission) from CE. There are points in the demo where the distant geography on another island looks like it is mostly a red colored/ dry rocky environment more like The Ark from H3, or the H4 mission where you’re on the bigger elephant vehicle (I don’t remember it’s name).

I imagine we’ll see snow too if they want to bring back the classic vibes. So I think we will end up with some variety to the geography at launch.

Unlike Halo however Anthem was nothing but an empty Shell with almost Zero Story.

I agree in that I believe they are going to have the main campaign and base multiplayer to start with, then expand the campaign with additional storylines as the months and years progress for the next good chunk of time (I’m thinking 4-5 years minimum). Personally, I’m not a fan as it seems to me that using a cross-generational game on a brand new engine will end up becoming an fast-aging and limiting factor in the future, so I would’ve preferred that they stick to a brand new and up to date game every 3 years instead. I acknowledge that I could be totally mistaken on the viability of this decision though, so I’ll stay optimistic that 343 has good reason to go this route until evidence points to the contrary.

10 years…sounds more, more like live service.
I was hoping to consider Halo Infinite for the full game physical copy but now it’s sounding like it’ll be impossible since sounds like content will be drip fed over 10 years via digital only downloads/updates, that’s kind of what irritated me about Halo 5.
