Thanks Bungie for -Yoinking!- up the banhammer on Firefight. Players routinely go AFK, scoring 1 kill, and then hiding ruining the game for everyone else. They’ve been doing this routinely for a year and a half to earn the meaningless rewards you created. The banhammer that fanboys like to laud does nothing, the Xbox Live reporting system does less. I could write a database query in 10 minutes to find all the AFKers. This limited problem could be fixed by any first-year computer science student.
Thanks 343 for doing absolutely nothing to address this problem that Bungie created. Thanks for creating weekly challenges which promote this type of -Yoink-.
Thanks to the both of you for not letting us name the -Yoinks!- who perpetrate this -Yoink-. I could list and give examples with enough information to justify a credit reset but someone’s feelings might get hurt.
Thanks also for the 2/3 person Firefight matchups making it impossible to finish all three rounds with one AFK player and then for giving me quit/ban points when I leave those games early while the AFKer doesn’t get penalized.
See, ranting and punching holes in the wall does make you feel better.
They have no way of stopping FF AFKers and people who actually think that there time will come up soon are kidding them selfs.
I hear all the time that the banhammer will catch up to them but i still see the same ol people doing it every game, i usually quit before the game starts when i see the ones which do it all the time so they don’t use me for there weekly challenge or if im in the mood i will get a concussion riffle and annoy them all game.
Maybe 343 should appoint somebody who plays FF a lot to go out and hunt out these players and get them reset since the so called banhammer does nothing at all.
You’re half right. If they do not currently have a way of stopping FF AFKers in-game then either they’d have to release a patch to catch it client-side or else do real-time analysis to catch it server side. Neither of these may be completely trivial. However, it’s the work of an afternoon to query the stats and find the AFKers post-game. If widespread bans/resets are applied, the boosting will stop.
What you say is indicative of the limited situation. You know the usual suspects. I’ve got my own list. We can’t post the names here though. What’s the point of a silent community?
Hell, 343 could hire a high-school hall monitor at minimum wage who’d be happy to blow the whistle. I’ve got a real job but I’d be happy to share my list, gratis :-).
Im in the same boat as you buddy, i have my own list as well and would love to drop it all on here but we all know some people might get a bit upset with it.
Remove game complete cr from FF. Only way to earn cr in ff is to actually play. Higher the par score per level and if your team beat it your commmendation bonus gets doubled
> They did once and reset a crap load of them but that was only once
Yes, which was a major factor in the population drop off (the other two are people getting bored and Black Ops release date). Challenge resetting was the major cause of the resets. Going AFK was also punishable. I don’t think Bungie made it clear to players in game that challenge resetting or AFK was punishable even though it’s clearly wrong. Both sides failed IMO.
15k along with those who left Reach for BO/quit the game entirely is going to leave your game with a less than stellar population levels. It was hitting 40-60k a day for the longest of times and never once hit 100k like it does now.
I wouldnt blame the population drop off in Reach because of people getting reset, thats another thread for sure lol.
I know a lot of people who did get reset because of all the AFKing and yet they still kept on playing the game and then left for other reasons not including all the reset business.
Watching all those people cry and complain about how it was unfair for being reset for AFKing on Bungie was one of the best things i ever read on that site, Bungie did note in some of there weeklys that if people continued to boost in MM or AFK that they would be dealt with according to what they did so they did have some warning, now whether they did read the weeklys or not is there bad luck but it was noted.
when i have played MM in the last 6 months i did not noticed any difference in waiting time when searching for games compared to when the game came out so to me i don’t think the reset did affect that but thats my opinion
No need to warn players about it any more since the 1st lot got a nice little reset, pretty sure everyone knows what happens if you do AFK and if the the actual banhammer catch’s you.
I think of your going to cry and complain about something your not surpose to do then you need help.
Who the F plays Firefight anyways? With all that Arcade BS Firefight was a waste of a feature and waste of space on the disc. It wasn’t always like that only when they added the arcade rules on MM. WTF was the point of having me wish FF was on MM if at the end of the day i still have to gather up friends to play a normal FF game. STUPID!

That was some pretty hilarious reading alright. “I WILL SOO YOU BUNGEI! MY DAD IS A IMPOTENT LOYER”.
They should reset credits for AFKing. The population would decrease… so we’d be left with non-AFKers.
It says nothing in the game manual or in-game about having ranks/credits reset due to AFKing etc.
This is my biggest bug-bear with it. Yes people shouldn’t do it, but if you’re going to do something drastic like resetting an Inheritor back down to Recruit you really should warn people.
These super jackpot weekend screens keep popping up all the time - why can’t they do something similar (maybe once a month) to warn the AFKers etc.?
Also, I should imagine they’re wary about resetting as they don’t want to drive players away. If I was ever reset I would stop playing Reach (I don’t AFK by the way!).

You shouldn’t need a warning for something that should be common sense. People know fully well what they are doing, and what they are doing is wrong. A warning just serves as notice to stop what they’re doing, giving the cheaters fair notice when what they were doing was fair to no one. Let the guilty pay.
They can’t issue warnings for every infraction that is against the rules. It would be impossible, and more importantly, very annoying to click through a bunch of endless warnings, which no one would ever read. How many times do people actually read terms and conditions rather than just click it to close it?
So, I understand the argument of “no fair warning”, but I think it defeats the purpose of trying to catch the cheaters. It would be like putting a sign on the highway which reads: “Warning, Cop with a radar gun 100 yards ahead.” No one would ever get pulled over. In my mind, the resets were completely justified and warranted. If you’re willing to AFK just to boost your rank, then you don’t deserve it. Why would you be proud of anything you cheated to get? It devalues that rank for everyone that earned it legitimately.
They break firefight when they make all of it Arcade, I never play it any more ever since, its IMPOSSIBLE to get classic firefight or something close to it, no, instead of that every one have double shield infinite rockets etc…what a challenge…

I find that usually 3 people vote, if you have two controlles you could get a friend over and then vote for limited if you want.
One question. Why do you care? You’re already an Inheritor, and if the AFKers in Firefight annoy you that much, why not just play Matchmaking? That’s the logical thing to do, not come to Waypoint to complain. I understand that you’re angry, but coming here just to rant won’t fix anything.

(Also, haven’t I seen you on RDC before? It’s a shame that such a great site would end up giving us people like you.)

Yep, I was on RDC. Go through the archive. Read my posts. I was usually helpful. I even submitted a Firefight commendation guide that Matthew never posted.
Oh, but thanks for the unwarranted judgement. Real mature.

What? No. You should just play the game. It’s your own fault. And if you buy a game for just standing around, doing nothing and literally letting OTHER players increasing YOUR rank, you should be resetted with no warning.
It is cheating, just in another form. And I’m glad Bungie resetted these poor boosters.
