So I just started up Halo Wars 2, all excited to get into the story, not knowing anything about it. I went dark, haven’t watched any trailers since E3 last year (though I did see the live action ones, those were hilarious). I went into the campaign, and saw this thing called “Phoenix Logs”. No idea what that is, I clicked on it. And what do I get in front of me? The name of every freaking mission in the game, which includes…
The HaloAre you -Yoinking!- kidding me? You’re going to reveal a big story spoiler just like that? In the campaign menu? This is an outrageous oversight… You guys didn’t think that people would see this stuff? At least grey out the names of the missions until the player has played them…
As somebody who hates spoilers, this is so disappointing.
EDIT : I know that I overreacted here, and I know that I shouldn’t have been prying around the menus without having played the game first. It’s my fault.
sheesh, this forum is terrible.

It’ll grow on you.
…Or not.
I hate spoilers as well, but that seems like to small a thing to complain about.

I dunno man… Games typically block out the mission names before you unlock them for a reason. Telling us the name of the last mission is like giving us the finger and saying “Hey, you don’t want to know how the story ends before you play it? Well too bad, we’re telling you anyway”. I mean, what if we had known beforehand that the last mission in Halo 3 was called “Halo” before even starting it? That would have been a pretty big giveaway as well, don’t you think?
I know I’m overreacting a bit, but it sucks that I worked so hard to go into this game without knowing anything, only to get spoiled by the game itself.
I’m not looking at the spoilers, but dang dude that sucks.
At least it was just the names though, not the missions themselves.

One, they showed a Halo ring in the Launch Trailer.
Two, you’re on the ****** Ark…its an installation for the pure purpose of making Halo rings…

I agree. I haven’t played the story yet (haven’t had time but plan on starting tonight) and I even wouldn’t be surprised if a Halo ring was mentioned since the area is the Ark. Also for the fact that Halo 5’s legendary ending involved a Halo ring, and the fact that 343 stated that HW 2’s story would be involved with the new trilogy.
Well… “Halo” is in the title, so I think you are overreacting.
It’s like, “wait, there are wars in this game??? SPOILER!!”
With that said, I’m not gonna tell you how to feel. Sorry it upset you. Hopefully the rest of the story will make up for it.
I mean, there’s a Halo in the Trailer, the Phoenix Logs are basically terminals (so you shouldn’t have been looking at them anyway since you didn’t have any unlocked), and that’s also not 343i’s fault, or even CA’s (the people who actually made the game). You decided to look at stuff ingame before even playing the campaign, expecting to encounter no spoilers.

Well… As I said, I had not watched any trailers since E3, so I was not aware of there being a Halo in the trailer. And I also had no idea what were Phoenix Logs, since again, I’ve been staying dark about the game. I was curious to see what exactly they were, and I paid the price. I guess it is kind of my fault for venturing around before playing the game. I’ll know better for the next Halo game, assuming that Halo Wars 2 is good enough to make me change my mind about not buying Halo 6.

I mean, Halo Wars 2 is really good (and to be fair, the Halo spoiler is a really minor one in the grand scheme of themes). There’s a particular cutscene that I’ve rewatched 50 times by now.

I’m glad o hear that you think it’s really good! I’ve played about 8 missions so far, and while it’s good, I don’t think I would call it amazing by any means. The fact that I’ve only seen two cutscenes so far doesn’t help either. It’s better than Halo 5, but that’s really not saying much at all. Hopefully the last act of the game really wows me, but we’ll see.

Exactly! It’s pretty self explanatory for there to be a ring.
I got spoiled by going to theater mode and saw the last cinematic thumbnail unlocked, that was atrocious.
Top TIp - Don’t read any of the logs, watch any gameplay or cinematics, if you don’t want to spoil it for yourself. As for me I just finished solo legendary. Liked the little legendary ending, but I’m sure you don’t want to know.

They did lock the mission names until completion?
Sorry but if you look then you are going to see
