After playing Reach since release, for some reason I was automuted in the past day or two.
Why? I have no idea. I don’t scream, sing, play music, or anything like that.
In effect, my matchmaking is ruined until this stupid thing expires. (if it ever does)
In addition to my teammates not being able to hear me call out things, I can’t hear them call out things. This really ruins teamwork.
What is the reason for automute to still be in the game? Is it so lazy people don’t have to mute others? If you are too lazy to mute someone who is actually annoying, then you should suffer IMO.
What about the people that mute the other team by default every game? That leads to people being unfairly automuted also.
Finally, how long does this last? When can I start playing Reach again?
(PS. Sorry if the title is in CAPS, it wouldn’t let me change it for some reason)
I’ve encountered that too; it’s pretty annoying. I’m not sure how long it lasted, but it was around a couple days or so.
And the all-caps just looks like that for some reason, but it’s actually just lower-case letters. Just blindly capitalize where you need to, and it’ll show up like normal in the forums.
The mute ban is definitely one of Bungie’s more questionable decisions. Rarely have I had to remute someone who I had to unmute because of their mute ban.

Wait so you can unmute someone who’s automuted? Is that why someone suddenly appears muted at random?
I think the last year of playing, I’ve seen a “proper” mute (meaning they were buzzing/playing music) on a player a total of 1 time.
A few times they were just foreign, and dozens of other times they are just MLG players (who get muted before every match to prevent hearing the other teams’ callouts).
This happens to people who play a certain playlist alot like MLG or Team Doubles. People on the other team will automatically mute you so you can’t hear them during the game. I hope this explained it for you.

Would have made a whole ton of more sense to have such playlists ranked and thus not be able to hear the other team…
Sense is one thing this game has not made since day 1.

For some reason this continues to be a problem because a lot of MLG players are apparently too poorly informed to change their voice settings to “Team and Party Chat”, rather than muting the whole other team.
I’m always worried about this happening to me because I play a lot of the MLG playlist, so I usually mix some other games in here and there.
People mute people on the other team so the other team can’t hear call outs, when all they really need to do is change their audio settings. It’s stupid bungie put the mute ban in, but blaming 343i for ruining matchmaking is just as stupid. They had nothing to do with it.
Sorry you got mute banned, I wouldn’t like it either but you’ve just gotta wait it out.
