Thank You Waypoint!

Edit: Waypoint update date changed. Point still stands though.

It’s the end of an era, on “Early November” the new Waypoint site is planned to launch and frankly I’m feeling a little sentimental (unless that’s been delayed. In which case I feel a little silly). I’ve been regularly posting on this version of the forums since it launched. In that time so much has happened here.

  • MCC, Halo 5, HW2, and MCC PC all launched. - A regular moderator got employed by 343 (and that will always inspire me). - #HUNTtheTRUTH - Lots of people got very very mad (Remember when the falcon wasn’t in the Memories of Reach update in Halo 5?) - We raised lots of money for many charities! - I accidentally created a roleplay group set in a Bar in the Infinity. - The moderators inadvertently taught my teenage self proper internet etiquette. And thank god they did. - They got rid of cyan coloured text. - I joined and immediately left multiple Spartan Companies. - 21 people tragically died in futile attempts to become Waypoint moderators :(And for me personally, I quite literally grew up here. I’m not sure if this is breaking any rules but a seriously big hug to the Waypoint community. It’s been a wild ride. I’ll catch ya’ll on the vNext forums!

I am very sad that everything will be changed in the Halo Waypoint. At the same time, I am very curious to see what will the new Halo Waypoint Website look like.

Wow, didn’t realize we’ve been on this version of the forums since MCC. I somehow always remember this as a 2015 thing. In any case, that’s a long time. Like, we have long-time members who’ve never been through a forum software change. Seven years, a lot happens in seven years.

This version of the forums has been pretty okay. I mean, I still hate that the default text editor is WYSIWYG and all the formatting problems it brings, but at least I can know that when I click “submit”, my hard work will find its way onto the forums instead of being transported to another plane of existence.

Discourse looks like a neat piece of software. From a regular user standpoint, I’m sure I’m going to hate it less than every prior iteration of the forums. Moderation is a big question mark for me still, but I’ll figure that out. For most people though, I think it’s going to be a welcome change in the long term. I’m sure we’ll have plenty of time to chat about what we love and what we hate when the new forums have launched.

But yeah, this is my farewell to the 2014 Waypoint forums: you kinda sucked, but we had some good times anyway.

I’m gonna miss this version of Halo Waypoint. Been using it since I became a Halo fan in 2015. For me this is home, but I hope the future will be bright with the new Halo Waypoint and Halo Infinite.

This was probably my favorite era of Waypoint thus far. Hopefully the transition is smooth tomorrow

”If I had fingers they’d be crossed.”

ive only been here a few months and enjoyed all of it. i hope 343 brings the forums back…

I’ve been through Bungie .net, the old version(s) of Waypoint, and yet I am still sad to see this version go to the WebArchives. There are many things I never liked about this version(Some of which are not resolved in the Waypoint vNext) but I will always hold a spot in my heart for my home the last 7 years. Cheers to 2014-2021 HaloWaypoint. See you all on the flip side.

Been through quite a few Waypoint versions at this point, this next leap should be interesting.

So many cool memories here on the forums, lots of endless debate and banter. Most of all, I made some lasting friends. Familiar names that pop up on each chat that I occasionally run into online during pvp. I made my Waypoint page look awesome and accumulated as many badges as I could! I cannot wait to show my support in a new Forum moving forward. It’s very exciting, like moving house - except everyone else is doing the heavy lifting and running around! Thanks 343 and Mods for that! I’m cheering you on from the sidelines!

I jumped on at the beginning of Halo 5, so this is the only iteration of the forums I’ve known. I’m looking forward to the new ones, but I am feeling a bit nostalgic about this layout. I’ll see y’all on the other side!

It is sad just like when Wavpoint stopped being supported on the 360,Halo channel on the One,and our Halo matches on Bungie sad days. But keep the memories.

I suspect Waypoint will be down for some time when the transition occurs. It will be interesting to see the new stuff and see what was kept of the old stuff. That being said, I am looking forward to experiencing it all with you guys and girls.

We’re still live, but for how long?
What a shame that Companies didn’t get ported to the new site.

Looks like the upgrade to vNext has been delayed until early November, but I still wanted to chime in and reminisce.

I feel like we’ve been on this version of Waypoint since before MCC, as I remember talking on the boards during my college classes (which ended before MCC came out.)

Something fun/embarrassing to share from those old days… I even have a Google spreadsheet created where I would keep track of my Waypoint posts, as I don’t think there was an easy way to see where you had posted or how many posts you had created at the time. Just another fun side-hobby for Halo, haha.

Looking forward to the future. I will have to get used to everyone’s new avatars! I recognize names, but the avatar is like your “face” I notice first when posting.

Yeah, this version of Waypoint launched with the Halo Channel, just before MCC launched. That’s why it’s got all the yellow and blue accenting. I loved the idea of the Halo Channel, but never understood why everything wasn’t just done on the Halo YouTube page :/.

The Xbox Live profile pictures are going to be wild as well. It’ll be confusing at first but all of them are going to be way more distinct (mine is a weird rounded rectangle wearing sunglasses). You’ll be recognising people on the forums again in no time! Although moderating profile pictures will probably suck for the mods.

Still on the old one.

Edit: Looks like an article was edited today to say it’s not November 1st anymore.

I’ve just sort of started, so it will be interesting to see the new site.

Do we know exactly what’s carrying over and what’s not? I would definitely not be thrilled to lose my post history, badges, rank, inbox after nine years of posting here

Forums are moving to a new hosting software, I doubt all of this stuff is going to be ported over or if it’s even possible to be honest. I could be wrong but I don’t see it happening. That would also mean badges and ranks would be gone too.

From my time testing vNext I don’t think we even have a inbox anymore. Player to player communication is abscent. You just have a Notification Centre for system notifications.

Waypoint vNext is going to be a growing platform over time. Anything missing could be added eventually. Enough user feedback can definitely shape the future of the app & website.

Remember that you’ve only seen a subset of the new website. Just like vNext will have forums, it will also have private messages.
