Thank you for fixing the Elites in campaign

Thank you 343, thank you for fixing the elites in the campaign.

You have gotten rid of the models present in the E3 build, and put in a new model that matches the Blur cutscenes, and represents a cross between the Halo 2 and Reach Minors. And the Jackals look right too!

So what did they fix about them exactly?

  • Traditional armour and helmet, that look nearly identical to the Halo 2 models
  • Shield indicators (the yellow lights) on the arms and legs
  • Proper under armour
  • Proper antanomy
  • Ranks are designated by colour, not armour

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR LISTENING.

Thank god they kept the original look of the Elites, the Halo 4 Elites looked so out of place in the first gameplay footage of H2A.

Any screenshots? My stream was kinda crappy to get a good glimpse.

The stream quality wasnt all that great, but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5UbXTky8cs

You can clearly see those are not the elites they had at E3. These are Reach/2 Elites

Don’t forget the sniper rifle; they changed that … the shotgun is identical to the original (just prettier).

Here you go, my good man.

Where did that one with the Honor Guards come from? Did I miss something? Twitch?

Nice. They look a lot more like H2 elites in this version. Still not a hug fan of the helmet but I can live with it.

… O_O that is gorgeous. Okay, they’re really doing Delta Halo/Regret justice.

This. This is the ODST armor that I want to be able to use in Halo 5.

Wow, amazing work, H2A is coming together very nicely. They nailed the look of the Elites/Honor Guards and I love the return of ODSTs that look more like their Halo 3 counterparts.

Yes! These Elites look so much better than the ones initially shown.

These look exactly like the ones shown at E3 to me, but with much better texturing and a slight rework of how the armor covers their bodies. Still, I’m not a huge fan of them, necessarily. The forehead is too bulbous and there’s really nothing going on in the armor’s crotch area. They look more like a straight visual update of the Halo 2 Elites than anything else. That could be a really good thing, but I was hoping to see Halo 2: Anniversary brought more in line with the Halo: Reach and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Elite look. Oh well.

The Honor guards are lookin nice

I like the anatomy of them, the faces look great.

I DO NOT like the armor. It’s been retconned that different ranks wear different armor since Reach, and we saw that in CEA and 4 as well. I really would have liked for them to have stuck with that for this, I don’t like 343 going back and forth with retcons and then retconning retcons and such.

It’s also super matte, and plain, it looks like painted plastic, vs the pearl/iridescence with a hex pattern that we’ve seen on all covie armor, vehicles, and objects since reach, which I really liked.

> The Honor guards are lookin nice

Yeah, it makes me wish that they’ll return in future Halo games. Obviously can’t given the disillusion of the Covenant. I kind of wish Halo 3 was being redesigned so that we could see Honour Guard Brutes in some of its levels.

Then again, we have to take into account that CE through 3 showed that different coloring will show ranks (they were made 1st). Maybe they changed CEA, because they wanted more consistency with Reach’s different armor. It’s not that big of a deal.

Though if it was me, I would have just kept the colors for CE for CEA. They were right to not completely change armor that is recognizable to original game, for H2A that is.

I disagree for a few reasons.

Firstly, the reason for the color differences existing from a gameplay point of view is that it’s a visual indicator of rank for the player. Having the actual armor change is even more of an indication, but it’s likely that early on that wasn’t feasible because of technical limitations.

Canonically, since early on, it was always established that the different armor between ranks is actually different in respects other then color: The shield strength is different, for example. And though the books never said the armor we saw in game looked different aside from color, it did mention that some armor was shaped differently.

It’s a reasonable assumption that the different armor for different ranks has “always” been shaped differently in canon, and that simply couldn’t be shown in game due to technical reasons until 3 and reach, and that’s supported by subsequent materials all showing that, even for stuff taking place earlier on.

In that respect, it would make sense for each rank in H2A to have totally different armor, because that would be the “true” canonical representation of those events in universe, even if it’s different from the original game. If people want a super true to the original game visual experience, they can turn the old graphics on.

The thing is, we can clearly see that the needler model in h2A uses the needler shape we see in reach, CEA, and 4, not the one in 2, even though the elite armor uses the original halo 2 structure. If they are going to go with super true to the original models updates as we see with the elite armor, I would have liked them to do so all around, and not go with newer visuals for some things and old visuals for others.
