Thank you 343. I think Infinite might be the best Halo to date!

This entire post is just my two cents… My opinions.

Halo infinite is fantastic!!! It feels as if we picked up from 3, modernized it, and gave many of the long time halo fans exactly what they wanted!!! The game plays amazing! The mechanics and movement are downright perfect (well, after highly customizing the controls, default controller settings were way off to me, I like a more traditional Halo layout). The vehicles also feel and drive AWESOME (tho I will say, I’ve hit a few people with the warthog and it doesn’t take em out as easy as it used to, that was a bit disappointing). But still, the game FEELS great to play, movement is everything Halo should be!

Equipment is not as over abundant or overpowered as I feared and it is way more fun than I anticipated. The UNSC guns feel perfectly balanced to me. A lot of people want the BR to be the be all end all, they usually want the AR to be useless, or call for the Pistol to be king, I say you have hit the sweet spot AS IS!!! They feel balanced to me! Sure, a few other things could use a little tweak, like Banished weapons feel a bit underpowered to me (the Ravenger for example, that thing feels useless to me, or maybe I’m doing something wrong with it I dunno lol). So sure, some things might need tweaks, but nothing dramatic. Or like what fans of other non Halo series are suggesting, PLEASE stay HALO! Just as you have shown us so far!!!

My opinions on the battle pass, progression system, and cosmetics. Though as a whole, I don’t like the direction ALL the games are going with this now… since I can see its not going to be going away any time soon… I actually like how 343 has done it. I bought into the Premium battle pass, which comes with the 25 levels, I didn’t care about the 25 levels, I did it to throw support to the game. And after playing for a few hours only a few days a week since release, I’m already level 52. I really don’t understand what the people are complaining about so much, saying things like “it’s hard to level”. That minor update where we now get 50xp per match is more than enough if you ask me, it was a good change and 50xp seems right to me, any more would be too much. I also don’t think it should be based on performance. I say that as somebody who often goes 30 kills 10 deaths in a btb match. I think everybody should get the same xp for each match just like we currently are. Each match is the reward, the fun, and gamers today have lost sight of that.
With the cosmetics, this opinion I’m probably in the minority on, but I HATE gear that doesn’t fit the universe, immersion breaking things like neon hard light Mohawks, they don’t sit well with me. I want everybody to look the part of a Spartan in military armor, not clowns. Again, I acknowledge I’m likely in the minority on that one, and since cosmetics don’t effect gameplay, it doesn’t matter that much.

I’m also a huge fan of the different armor cores! I hear some calling for the need to mix and match all parts across different cores, I don’t agree with that opinion at all. Having different cores feels more lore accurate for one, which is fun to me. But also, then people have to make choices so we get to see a lot more diversity. If everybody could mix and match, the likelihood of something like a certain helmet, or aesthetic sword becoming super popular goes way up and then you would see it on every single spartan, every core… an example would be, if the samurai sword on the tenrai core could be on other cores, its literally all we would see. I personally don’t wanna see that. I LOVE seeing the sword on the tenrai armor, but it should stay to that core only!
Since back in Halo 3, I would put certain armor on based on how I felt like playing that day, example, if I was aiming to focus on sniping, I would load out in Scout setup, or if I was driving I would use an EOD setup… having cores allows me to have completely different armors saved that I get to build head canon for, I know thats silly, but these are just my thoughts and opinions.

One gameplay critique I have. I would like to see player collision and friendly fire ON at all times. The melee feels wonky without collision. And Friendly fire makes you think twice before just unloading Rockets grenades and hammer swings… collision and ff are core halo mechanics to me.

Other feedback that I am possibly in the minority on is, I am NOT a fan of crossplay. I dont want to be paired with PC for two reasons.

  1. PC seems to usher in a lot of cheating.
  2. Controller and Mouse & Keyboard should NEVER mix.

So coming from a halo player that’s been there from the beginning. .A Halo collector that has bought into every Halo edition console, Legendary edition, loot crates, books, you name it, and as a long time lore fan, I couldn’t be happier with what we’ve been given so far! SOME evolving I understand, but 343, I stress again, please don’t cave to a loud minority… THEY make their opinions known loudly they are the squeaky wheels that usually get the oil… and people like me, fans that actually love the game in its current form, long time huge fans, we usually don’t speak up, and thats why I chose to make this post.

With that, Thank you 343. To some Halo is just a game, to me it’s my favorite fictional universe to play in.

Thankfully there’s already playlists for Controller only, so you can do that if you’d like to be paired there!

There is exactly ONE playlist to play controller only, solo ranked… It should be an option for the whole game.

The overwhelming bulk of players are on xbox anyways, we shouldn’t cater to less that 100k PC steam players that do nothing but usher in massive cheating and have drastically different key functions… Why should all the controller players that made halo as popular as it is today have to suffer playing against keyboards that can 180 flip at the touch of a key, PC players that max field of view far beyond xbox and people that click heads with a mouse…

M&K and Controller should never mix in FPS.

The general consensus at the moment is controller has the advantage although I do think that’s somewhat questionable.

I agree with everything you’ve said, except I do think modern games need to be crossplatform to thrive. I’d even go as far to say Halo Infinite should be on PlayStation for the multiplayer and retain campaign for Xbox/pc only.

They should aim to balance the inputs as much as possible and from my current experience I think they are balanced fairly well already.

I didn’t think Halo positive posts were allowed here?

Agree. Loving infinite so far.

They have nailed the movement mechanics… and I’m only just beginning to tap into what equipment brings.

The Battle Pass is ticking over… I’m up to 17 or so without even trying (and I’m on my second extended interstate trip away from my xbox). Happy to let it keep ticking over organically. Just the occasional swap out as needed.

Still waiting for a coating to grind or pay for… Brown and Gold please.

Don’t give two hoots about what input my opponents are using. As long as they are ranked the same as me and the game is close I don’t care if they are using a fancy VR headset or an Atari 2600 joystick.

If we had a choice about getting to play it now or wait another six months for co-op, forge, and a few more maps / playlists… I would take it now every time.

Although the Forge delay sux. I need to see what scripting holds…

The other thing I need is the API. We know it exists because HaloTraker is using it. And we know it’s coming because they created a forum here for it. Let’s have at it.

But apart from that… yes, thank you 343. There is so much potential in this game.
