So I pretty recently started actually using waypoint, and one thing that I’ve already notice in short period of time is the insane amount of negativity and complaining that takes place in the forums. I mean debating topics isn’t negative, but when 60%+ of the forums are people complaining about anything it sucks. I am in no way saying Bungie forums were complaint free, but this little waypoint community of ours is so hostile.
If I had a dollar for every time I see somebody get called an idiot in the forums for having a differing opinion as the name caller, I’d be filthy rich. In all honesty 70% of what made Halo… Halo, was the community behind it. The community is seriously what made Halo my favorite series. The graphics could’ve been awful and the Gameplay could’ve been slow, but with awesome people from the community it still would be a blast. So here I am as a humble, Silver Recruit saying this; the ones responsible for bringing back the old, nostalgic feel of Halo is us. 343i is doing everything they can to improve whatever problems are happening, stay positive, and stay patient. We’re in this together.
I think it really started going downhill with Halo 2 with the whole MLG scene. When you start adding competition into something. People get hostile.
I also noticed is that a lot of people here are only good at ONE game and/or ONE gametype instead of All of them and don’t want to take the time to be good At all of them. So because a lot of the playlist are cross-game or multi gametype. People get upset if they they don’t get what they want and get crushed instead of doing the crushing.
I’ll just use some example
Like a lot of people hate/like
Halo 1, cause its easy to spawn lock and the magnum
Halo 2, easy to play and a good br
Halo 3, takes skill to aim for you have to lead shots and power items like bubble shields
Halo 4, sprint and easier for newer players so they play better.
They are all different games play differently yet the same at the same time.
Many of the hate thread pop up cause 4/5 times the OP wanted his game, got another and got his butt kicked and he wants to cry about it and try to force people to play what he wants so that way he is doing the butt kicking . Really what it leads down to.
It becomes rather bad very quickly, but there are still places where the Waypoint community comes to better with a common goal. The Halo 5:Guardians Poster art as it was being released in small chunks is a good example of a lot of people working together. I was in the original Forum about it, but it soon sky rocketed in popularity and even has had a few attempts from others trying to cash in on the popularity of it, even though it was finished in the third forum.
Aye, this community is a pool of pus originating from a lanced boil on a dog’s rear. No one is really satisfied, even the decent folk that commend 343i’s attempts with Halo 4, and show no hatred what-so-ever. No matter what, there is always an element to Halo that someone hates, be it Sprint or The Library, the most tedious level I have ever played in a Halo game, and my least favorite.
Alas, rejoice, drink heartily and remember that there are people who respect opposing opinions and embrace tranquility among the forums. I, for one, have mostly kept close to the fairer crowd of this community, but I stumbled upon this one hater, and took an aggressive stance only to find out that he wasn’t such a bad guy; while I was discretely throwing turds onto his ignorance, he was avoiding using any slang. I was taken off-guard by his terrible grammar, but he was a decent bloke, and I feel real bad countering him in the manner I did.
So, even those who may appear bad aren’t that bad, and I saw that this guy wasn’t just complaining, but was passionately upset. We parted on good grounds, and that’s what matters. We don’t have to see eye-to-eye, but as a community, it is best that we still remain united in a common goal: The preservation and ever-lasting legacy of Halo and its continued quality and fan-service.

I agree that there are some parts. I hope Halo 5 helps improve the community, but I still feel strongly about community groups and the help the formation of them would bring. At least people that share the same complaints could be united?
It’s hard to defend 343 when they promised me the OG halo experience from the mcc and totally ruined one of my fav series when they released mcc they way they did.

It’s not hard for me; look at me? I constantly defend 343i. Yes, they messed up with the MCC, but I see that complaining and hating is inefficient in proving a point. I have an opinion, and that opinion is that the MCC was too ambitious–no one had ever done it before. It would have been perfect if they missed the Christmas deadline–they should have taken the extra time to stabilize the MCC, that is if my opinion is credible; I could be wrong in what exactly happened in their development cycle.
For me, I wish the MCC didn’t exist, because in this day and hour in the gaming industry, ambitious projects are too risky. 343i still needed to win the fan’s love, and I think they should have waited until they after Halo 5’s release before releasing the MCC, and perhaps release Halo 2A to feed the fanbase; they would have had an excellent entry in their track record, then. Now, for many, it’s miss, miss, and what next? If Halo 5 is good, it’ll be miss, miss, hit. If it’s bad or anything around the levels of Halo 4 (I, for one, loved Halo 4’s campaign, at least) then it will be miss, miss, miss, and then we have a problematic situation.

I will say this to you Mr. Bash; I honestly don’t believe they ruined your favorite series or anybody’s favorite series if he/she/you are still using Waypoint. What that shows me is that you still have hope and faith that Halo isn’t finished and you don’t want it to be. The release was awful I’ll give you that, but I guarantee a few months after playing Halo 5 you’ll laugh about the MCC launch, you’ll put MCC in your xbox when you want to play some classics, and you’ll be thankful for it.

This.
And what many others said, but I’m also a very passionate individual regarding the Halo universe as a whole, not just in-game or multiplayer. I get everything Halo related. It’s what I do like it/love it whatever, it will always be here to stick around very similar to Star Wars and that universe. I just love this universe a lot more because it’s a lot younger and I grew up with it, so it’s easier to relate to instead of when 30 years prior SW just launched with all the buzz.

Easy, guys. That’s how everything goes downhill.

Example A of negativity. This killllllls community. In gaming universes and in real life.

I agree. I think Guardians is either going to make or break 343i.

This game’s release is personal for me. If it fails to deliver on my levels of expectations (Which aren’t impossibly high) and misses the mark with the story on the highest peak of the scale, then I will have to begin considering my opinions a bit more carefully, and take into account that I have a three strike rule, and discuss with myself if that rule applies with Halo 5, or not.
On the bright side, it really is looking like Halo 5 will deliver. The more optimistic I am, the further I’ll stumble if the game somehow doesn’t deliver.

It’s a currently very mixed community. A lot is going on.
I just ignore the few bag eggs in the bunch! You can find a lot of great people in the Halo community that are not just complaining and really enjoying playing the game!
Check out Roll Call and twitch, you can meet some great people who just love the game! There are more good than bad, the bad are just louder and the good are actually playing the game!
I believe 343i is doing an amazing job with the Halo franchise however, I think they got too ambitious with MCC, even though its was like a dream come true to have all the Halo games in one, in my honest opinion, 343i should have just let Halo 2 have its anniversary without the other Halos just like Halo CE had it’s anniversary. They should have just waited with the Halo MCC at least when Halo 5 was done or later on. But 343i actually set a trend because if you see other gamer communities, like Gears of War of Call of Duty, they want those gaming companies to do the same so in a way Halo community should be thankful that 343i even done this but i do agree they should have worked on it better to make sure it would actually work on launch day. Either way. 343i shouldn’t be hated on, they do a lot for the Halo community compared to other gaming companies from what I seen. I still enjoy playing all the Halos including MCC because regardless of what other say, Halo is still fun to play.
