Textures/lighting downgrade??

Man… Just checked the new update. Friend of mine said they’d gimped the lighting and textures in his Forge maps. I checked and sure enough, my Forge maps look significantly worse and less rich looking. The lighting and even textures (I think) look flat and washed out compared to before. Hard to tell in some areas but everything definitely seems to look flat now. Movement also feels more responsive and less sluggish on one of my more detailed maps, which makes me think there’s been some heavy handed optimisation going on. Thoughts?

Maybe the lighting isn’t baking correctly.

Yeah man possibly, I hope it’s a bug. Be interested to see what others think, because it looks a fair bit worse to me.

Anybody else looked into this themselves? I’m not imagining it I swear. The whole look of one of my maps has changed for the worse, but it’s noticeable to different degrees on other Forge maps… anyone?

If you used a lot of floors, stairs, walls, etc. instead of primitives, this will seem like a substantial change. When the first primitives got texture options, the light bake on them appeared much darker than on pieces without texture options. Now that structure pieces have textures they also have a much darker light bake when they are in the shadows vs without. Depending on which pieces compose the map, this could result in a strange mismatched kind of light setup post-patch (though less substantial than just primitives getting textures.)

But as for color schemes, some of the base map color filters do seem to have changed slightly over time through various patches, more so recently. I forge all the time on Alpine At sunset and noticed after a new update a couple of months ago it looked slightly different palette wise as in the shading was a bit different.

Other Than these two observations, I don’t notice any substantial difference such as you are describing.

Yeah thanks man. Sorry for the late reply here. It seemed to work itself out i guess it was a little glitchy or something…
