> As I was playing the Beta, I noticed something peculiar about 343’s intended direction that Halo should be headed. Not only did they remove K/D and installed KDA to accompany assists that encourage team play, they also changed the very meaning of slayer; it’s now become “control the power weapons to dominate the enemy team.” I like the new direction Halo multiplayer is headed, team play is now more than just crucial, it’s necessary to win. The weapons on the map are also placed to reflect map control.
> The BR and DMR are in locations that can potentially choke the enemy team, and control certain positions. The AR starts are rather powerful, but no match compared to SMG’s, which are pickups and deserve to maintain their specs because of them being pickups. For every Halo multiplayer I’ve played, weapons are just placed on the map and never picked up. The situation is different in Halo 5, where picking up a weapons is not only crucial, but beneficial no-matter what weapon you choose; most of the time, I had difficulty choosing between SMG’s and BR’s, and that was because of the situation we were in.
> The SMG is powerful, and should stay as such since it is meant to be a picked up automatic weapon compared to the AR. The BR is slow, but powerful since it can land shots in a wider field and is devastating mid-range. For long range, the DMR beats all, however, I don’t think we’ll find the BR dominating on maps anymore due to this change in flow, the BR is now a tactical weapon and now used based on the situation like it should, not dominating the entire map once it’s picked up.

Excellent commentary. I wholeheartedly agree.

I agree wholeheartedly best arena combat experience ever in history

I wish I could like this post twice…well said…I wish more ppl thought like u man Geez…instead of living in the past learn how to master this game it’s all about teamwork
The SMG is a powerhouse and easily much stronger than the AR in close-quarters as it should be, but the SMG is too effective even at longer distances. I think the SMG should have it’s effective range decreased and have added recoil because it barely has any at the moment.
This isn’t the Arena shooter the H2 guys asked for. It’s the Arena shooter everyone deserves.

Lol people still think this is an arena shooter?

It is. And this is coming from someone who still plays the original unreal tournament
Slayer was always about that. The fact that they had to edit the description to let people know speaks volumes.
I think the AR’s range when scoped should be nerfed, but aside from that, I agree OP.
…they also changed the very meaning of slayer; it’s now become “control the power weapons to dominate the enemy team.” I like the new direction Halo multiplayer is headed…
This is a NEW direction for Halo? What Slayer were you playing?

Equal Starts? CHECK
Power Weapons at key map locations? CHECK
Map Control Essential? CHECK
Seems like a text-book arena shooter to me.

I think he meant compared to Halo 4.
Thank you OP this was a much needed post with all of the recent negativity on the forums. I too think the beta has things more or less perfectly balanced and I’m afraid Halo 5 might end up going the way I’ve seen so many other betas go over the years, with the beta getting things right and the full game messing up the balance because of the developers caving into complaints.
Agreed… Almost… ONLY thing I feel need changing is a slight nerf to the AR in terms of range or bullet spread or something. You can take people out at a very far distance.
Other minor gripe… Scope on the DMR blocks too much screen… Pop on a less bulky ACOG.

Map control is essential? News to me.
This game couldn’t be easier if it tried. Halo hasn’t resembled original arena shooters since CE, but at least before it never tried to claim it did.
If it fits your definition of “arena”, fine. It’s an arena shooter. Just an extremely sub-par one with a small skillgap.

I agree all the weapons actually have a situational use
