Yes, of course! That’d be great.
I vote no, mostly because Halo’s maps aren’t like Cry Engine maps, they aren’t editable terrain, they’re models done in modeling programs like Maya. Also, forge is a MP based map editor, not a map creator, and as such, in order to adjust forge so you can edit terrain, you’ll need to cut off the MP aspect of it.
I much rather see 343i ship Halo 5 with a Map Creation kit like Halo PC and Halo 2 Vista, with all of the tools we need to create a custom map, (That would include a Terrain editing tool), and keep Forge a simple map editor that supports more than one person.
Wouldn’t that just be a Halo 3 reach and Halo 4 forge?

There are still things that past forges can’t do, that you’ve suggested in other threads. Weather, time of day, things that don’t mess with the map model.
Plus, Terrain Editing is one of those features that is more map creation than map editing.
When you Forge a map, you’re not really creating a map, you’re editing one. You’re moving the scenery, weapons, vehicles, and spawn points around. Map Creation, you’re actually creating the map model. Granted I would enjoy to see some form of in game terrain editing, but, the question is, would the game’s coding going to be able to handle it in a MP setting, and/or is the hardware/networking going to handle it.
I would also like to be able to change certain terrain textures, that would be more useful than terrain editing.

There’s also the question of if an in depth terrain editor would be as useful as other projects 343 could set their multiplayer and technical teams onto, such as multiplayer AI’s, dynamic map elements, or AI driven dynamic map elements. Now that isn’t quite to say “IT’S A TERRAIN EDITOR OR MORE VERSITILE AI’S, NOT BOTH!!!” but just that there may be better things for them to worry about than keeping up with Fracture as there are other areas of the game that are even more deficient.
It’s a pretty boring counter-argument to make, but for these sorts of esoteric features it is an important one to consider.

Actually, it kind of is, being able to change the terrain could mean we wouldn’t be seeing MP AI, I really don’t think Halo AI’s are smart enough to adjust to terrain edits on a basic level that forge is.
Now, if we had a full blown map editor, we could be able to edit terrain, and have AIs in MP with out having pathing issues, but then again, we most likely wont see any MP AIs in Halo’s MP because of Forge.
I vote YES but…
I’d like to see a 2 tier Forge system. 1 like it is now, made better of course and a 2nd choice for hardcore halo fans with more tools at our disposal to make level changes like terrain, skybox, etc.
I’d like to see this for a new forge world in the next game. Not the same forge world that came with Reach, but a NEW one. Fully editable.
Make it square, flush with water surrounding it. NO GRASS to peek through objects close to the ground.
From there, we could raise AND lower ground. If lower it would fill with the water below it at sea level. There would have to be some constraint as to how far you could raise/lower it. If you want to put an area at the highest point, it would have to also bring up the surrounding areas as well to make it believable.
I’d love to see hills be an added piece of terrain. Also, scaling is something I think is much needed in Halo’s forge template.
Even in Halo 4, if I could SCALE objects, I could create some awesome maps.
I definitely want to see daytime/night time effects as well as weather. Rain for sure. Snow would be more difficult I’d think. Unless there would be a “skin” for a map that you could click on to give it a snow effect. Then everything you put down would also be skinned to that depending on where you put it (if indoors, then not skinned with snow, if outside, then snow added). This way, while the map has snow falling outside, it will be more realistic.
I just think it would be awesome to have a night time map with snow on it. Something different, but believable.
Id love a full on terrain editor. But if its not possible then at least they can include a wider variety of natural forge pieces. Not just rocks and trees but hills, ridges, logs, and bushes. Even some aesthetic pieces that dont serve a purpose beyond making the map look pretty, like flowers and vines and so on. And maybe even a weather or time of day generator. That would be awesome. But above all i would like it if they had an option to set the “skin” for the forge objects. Options like Covie themed, Forerunner, Human, etc.
I’m actually in favor of adding in terrain pieces as natural blocks like hills and ridges and fauna. I also would like a weather and time system as mentioned above, as well as skins for all the same pieces in forge we have now plus new ones.

Ai are not difficult to program. Take a look at Garry’s mod. You create maps and npcs whenever you want.
On all of those created maps, ai are able to be spawned, because they were programs to do general tasks, like shooting walking, or you can just take away their thinking ability, in which case they do nothing. Programing AI for maps is not the problem.
Another example is Star Wars battlefront 2. Even the console versions had bots, and they were great. That was last gen too. An example for current gen would be far cry 3 which allows you to create maps from scratch and still spawn AI, and they work great as well. Next gen shouldn’t limit 343 in allowing us to have Ai at all, in fact, it will likely make it easier due to cloud processing, which forza 5 uses to make its ghost players.
