Terminals Crash my Xbox Console

Update: I believe I have figured out this issue. It seems the system isn’t crashing, just disconnecting/blocking its video output since I’m using a capture card. I added a response post below in more detail. Accessing terminals without using my capture card works perfectly.

I have an unfortunate issue where attempting to access a terminal completely crashes my Xbox One … the system itself, not just the game.

I see people talking about how they cannot view terminal data, unlock terminal achievements, or attempting to access a terminal will open the Halo Channel app then immediately kick them back into the game. I am not experiencing any of this. I attempt to access the terminal, the achievement unlocks, the Halo Channel app loads then immediately my entire Xbox One system crashes with a black screen. I then have to literally press the power button on the console in order to turn it off and restart.

In case it matters, I’ve only attempted accessing terminals on Halo 4 and this problem happens on all of them for me.

I haven’t had terminal issues whatsoever. But I have only accessed them on Halo CE on the second level.

Somebody REALLLLYY needs to make an entire list of all the issues/(simple things to improve the game), people/ even individual people are having…

Ah, I believe I have my issue figured out. 343, I really hope you stumble on this thread. My Xbox One console isn’t actually crashing, it only appears that it does because it disconnects the video output signal.

I finally noticed that when I attempted to access a terminal, the power/connection lights on my capture card would light up. This hinted to me that it was losing the Xbox video signal. Why would this be? Well, the Xbox One HDMI video signal uses encryption where it can tell if its video is being interrupted by an external device (capture card). This is how the Xbox One is able to allow games to run using a capture card, but it is able to block certain apps & video from being captured.

So what’s happening is when attempting to access a terminal, the Halo Channel app opens and attempts to play video, which the Xbox One is immediately disallowing, since it detects my capture card. I just attempted to access a terminal without using my capture card and everything performed perfectly. Please address this, 343!

For the record, I’m using an Elgato HD60 capture card. I’d like to know if this helps others who are experiencing terminal issues.
