This is just a list of game mechanics, tactics and general problems that are worse than Sprint in my opinion, also note that some of these do not exist in Halo
- Armor Lock
- laying prone / dolphin diving
- Hackers / Glitchers
- long distance square dancing or rather when two enemies at a long range dodge and shoot at each other for an prolonged period of time.
- gopher sniping or when a person has mastered the hill, door, and wall angles so well that you never see them shooting straight in your direction
- Camping / Bunny Hopping
- Spawn controlling / Spawn Camping
- AFK, De-leveling, De-ranking, and Boosting
- unbalanced matchmaking - let the noobs play amongst the noobs and the skilled pick on the skilled
- Team killers, griefers, trolls
I just made this list to illustrate that sprint in general isn’t the villain that some here perceive it to be.
>
1-Not in this game
2-Not in this game, if the player outplays you by dolphin diving then you deserve to lose
3-Not specific to this game
4-Don’t get this one, move closer? Get a sniper? This is only caused by the player not being good or using an inefficient weapon
5-Again, caused by someone outplaying you
6-Camping is a game choice, ideally the maps would be designed to minimize camping or promote movement
6.5-Bunny hopping is a strategy, once again someone is just being outplayed
7-If they dominate the map that much, they deserve to kill you. There’s a difference between it being from amazing playing and bad spawns though.
8-Valid point I guess?
9-This isn’t really a gameplay mechanic, don’t get why it’s here. Does it really need to be said games should have good matchmaking functions?
10-This is in any community
Sprint doesn’t need to be in Halo. Everything it does is accomplished better by upping the move speed by X%. Yes I know you said that some of these aren’t in game, if they are why bother putting them in? Surely the developers would have the small intelligence needed not to remove things like Bunny hopping cause someone that got outplayed complains, or add in Armor Lock despite it being a proven awful mechanic. Wait a minute, these are the devs that decided a waypoint above the flag, destroying any kind of stealth run/out thinking possible in past games was a good idea.
This thread is a waste of space.
I.e. Sprint is ok because worse things exist?
This thread has no point.

The only legitimate complaint there. The rest have either never existed in Halo or aren’t gameplay mechanics, but instead strategies utilised by players.
Hacking is agianst the rules.
Sprint affects not only gameplay on a “get out of jail” level, but also messes with map design. I’ll put it simply, what would normally be considered around player traits, hitbox sizes, explosion radius’ and movement, is thrown to the wind in an attempt to balance sprint out.
It leads to large maps, overly complex designs or poorly designed maps, power positions with little to no effect and an inability to create a remotely well balanced or designed power position.
If they replaced sprint with default (removable) and slightly buffed thruster packs, it wouldn’t affect map design on such a monumental level (it would still affect, but not near as much) and would add to the gameplay as opposed to detract from it.
Click that for my sprint rant…

Sorry but in my opinion the reason why they cannot remove sprint is because Halo would revert into shooting fish in a barrel or spawn camping / spawn controlling matches on Ragnarok that are boring and annoying

Not only would removing Sprint allow them to increase the base movement speed to be fast enough to escape those situations, like Halo CE and 2. But you also can’t shoot and fight back against spawn trappers while Sprinting, so to be perfectly honest, Sprinting is WORSE for getting out of a Spawn Trap than walking normally and shooting back is.
Also, while Sprinting you can’t strafe, or dodge, or weave, to avoid shots. Making killing Sprinters more akin to fish in a barrel than non sprinters.

The times I have been on the wrong end of a DMR/BR/sniper spawn camping I would spawn in the open with about 2 seconds or less to move before death after death and it would last till the other team runs out of ammo because teammates quit out or lack the ability to tiptoe through the mine field. Sprinting makes you harder to hit were as increased movement speed turns back the clock to the shooting, charge, and melee to kill style like the old Halo standard. And ultimately if Sprint was removed long and medium range weapons should be in very limited supply as map drops only to be fair.

If sprinting turns Halo into a fish and a barrel would you not see more headcase metals than headshot metals?
If you’re being spawn camped and the kids aren’t good enough to hit you while you’re sprinting anyway, then you’re probably just BSing trying to prove your point. If the kids are spawn camping you effectively, that’s because they’re better than you and they’re most likely hitting their shots, in which case sprint is negated through stopping power.

That speaks more about matchmaking needing a better balancing. If a team of average random gamers land in a room against a seasoned clan it means match making failed in my book.
The only way sprint would truthfully be game breaking is if sprint was twice as fast while being unlimited and unending.
I think that sprint isn’t an issue. It just speeds up the game when on bigger maps. Now it is fair considering that it was an armor ability in reach.
I don’t mind sprint… BUT it should not be in any classic playlist and by extension and competitive playlist. If vehicles were stronger than it can act as a good way to balance vehicles (boarding, getting to cover faster ect) but really vehicles should be beefed up a bit.

Sprint sucks get over it.
Why don’t you use Sprint like it was designed? Use it to get to a fight or objective, and go back to normal as needed. BEFORE deactivation is needed. If you don’t like sprint, don’t use it, another good idea.
Im 7 and 10 on that list.
