Tech Preview Feedback

I hope this is the appropriate forum for some gameplay feedback following this past weekend’s Infinite tech preview. Overall I love the game and I’m so excited to play more, but of course I think there’s room for improvement:

  • I’d love to see some kind of indicator of newly acquired customization items. Customization is going to be the primary reason people “grind” the game. In this tech preview build, I personally had a difficult time tracking what I had unlocked via the Battle Pass. I hate to bring up Call of Duty, but this is something they do so well. New unlocked items pop up on their postgame screen, and then those items are identified in the menus with a yellow dot to let you know “this is something new.” It’s usually very clear what you need to do to unlock these items, and it’s very rewarding to do so. It’s such a small detail, but such visual cues will absolutely make the grind for new customization items more addicting and pleasurable.

  • My one and only absolute must-change is that there needs to be progression outside of the battle pass (ranks), and that XP needs to be rewarded just for playing the game. Under no circumstances should I play a game and get absolutely nothing for it. I’m telling you, such a decision will cause people to become frustrated and stop playing the game.

  • The loot cave in BTB is such a cool idea, but I personally found the loot within a bit underwhelming. In my experience it never felt worth it.

  • The invisible barriers, on Bazaar in particular, really felt restricting. I much prefer the out-of-bounds countdown used in past titles and on Behemoth. It opens up the possibility for some unique plays.

  • Please increase the grenade blast strength by default, primarily for the purpose of grenade jumps. Grenade jumps have been a big part of Halo, in both social & competitive formats, since the beginning. The default settings in Infinite don’t really allow for grenade jumps. I recognize this is something that can be adjusted in the settings, but please do this by default.

  • I’ve found myself mostly ignoring the drop wall. I will swap it out for a grappleshot, repulsor, or thrust 100% of the time, in any situation. I just don’t think the drop wall is very useful right now. I appreciate the effort to introduce something new, but I’d much rather see the return of the bubbleshield. I believe the bubbleshield is more useful, more nostalgic, and unique in that it can be used by either team once deployed.

  • Lastly, and this one is far less important than the others, but I think the new ping system could be enhanced. I rarely used it and I didn’t notice my teammates using it much either. I love the idea but it needs to be better. My thought was to maybe add some audio cues when a teammate pings a location? If my teammate pings tower, my personal AI could say “tower,” for example.

Just some thoughts that I hope 343 sees. Again though, overall I’m already in love with the game and I can’t wait until December 8!

My feedback from big team battle flight

the map looks great, lots of possibilities with the new armor abilities. like the fact they work more like halo 3 deployable equipment. however grapeshot and threat sensor seem to be the only 2 that I use. The rest are ignored. drop wall seems to be the most useless since it is taken down so fast and deploys to slow to turn the tide in a active fight. Replusor I was unsure what it does since I have always been killed by regular weapons with it(I figured it was to deflect the power weapons).

The warthog gun not having overheating again is a welcome surprise however though the warthog turret and machine gun turrets sound effects sound kind of weak. At one point I was unsure if it was firing since it was overshadowed by the other noises. I personally thing the noise should be loud and distinct.

I also think again the maps could use stuff like radio equipment props or jersey barriers on the map. there was a little near the gun turret I saw which was nice.

I understand that the progression is to be from challenges only. however performance and game completion should allow you to get some xp as well. The game needs a long form progression but I can see as xp amounts increase with each battle pass level the progression may get painful. if a person has to complete more than 10 challenges at any point to go up a level they may get disheartened and stop playing. hope yall can keep the balance between progressing too fast or too slow.

also multiplayer modes and how the vehicles spawn I think were great ideas. having a pelican drop stuff in is a real nice touch.
The weapon balance also seems pretty on point I like the AR and pistol actually being useful. Though I am a bit sad the shotgun is a semi auto (Im a sucker for pumps). feels like a break in tradition. the design of the Semi auto seems ok, but still. the range and damage seems good for a semi auto shotgun. Just miss the pump though.
I also would like the say the commando looks cool but ultimately in combat due to its recoil is really not that useful. it definitely will be in campaign but its recoil does not stay on target when dealing with human players or odst level bots.

Additionally there was lots of long wait times between games and had about 2 connection drops before being able to get into a game. Sometime the multiplayer options would not load up. I hope that this can be relatively solved before launch as you may lose people due to frustration with lobby times and crashes. Do not be like apex right now. they are experiencing alot of network issues and bugs and losing players because of it.

additionally will there be a flight for the campaign? maybe make a demo? I am really curious about it.

I would love to see more meaning full dialouge when it comes to personal A.I like if they can ocasionally remind you to find some cover when your sheilds are down or something. Not really a big issue though. Just something I would like to see. However I think the Drop Wall needs to be replaced with a Bubble Shield instead. Or improve the Drop Wall to be a more reliable defence option.
