The Mk50 really is meant to be a sidearm, not a primary utility weapon like many expect coming off the heels of Halo 5, and we believe it is fulfilling its role with its current tunings.
Ugh. The Sidekick really needs to be fun to use. I feel like the difficulty aiming it combined with such a limited range makes a huge portion of players just outright avoid it altogether. I’m fine with ensuring it has limited range so that it’s not like spawning with BRs, but please 343 – at least make it satisfying to use at closer range.
Maybe better aim controls will fix the majority of complaints with the Sidekick, but I feel like the Sidekick needs more adjustment than other weapons in the tech preview.
The Sidekick does the job it was designed to. It was never meant to be a team-slaying monster. It’s a backup weapon, a sidearm. It’s smaller than the Magnum in every way and is more like a gun that a soldier would carry as a sidearm. It’s not a hand cannon, it’s just a small pistol meant for cleanup kills and a decent precision start. Maybe that’s not your thing, and that’s fine if that’s the case. But don’t mistake improper usage for bad quality.
Also, what did you mean by more satisfying to use at closer range? Like, sound and impact? Or damage? Because to me and many others, the Sidekick is not only satisfying but deadly
I meant how difficult it is to aim. It should be fun and satisfying to pop off a headshot at close range when enemies have no shields. Instead, I have to empty almost a full clip to get the headshot.
I never said it should be a go-to weapon like a BR. I just said it needs to be fun to use.
Perhaps … I am hopeful the aim assist changes will help. I just want the Sidekick to have a solid utility beyond “I am out of bullets for my AR and have nothing else”.
Seeing that comp is BR start I’m fine with it where it stands as a utility weapon. Before we knew comp settings it was the impression that it was the starting weapon and didn’t fill that roll well.
I was on flight on series x but played some of a friends pc flight in btb.
I had no real issues with the side kick.
I actually used it to finish unshielded Spartans pretty often in the pc build. Less so in the console build because I was generally picking up weapons and realised I hadn’t been using the pistol and wanted to get a feel for it before the flight ended.
Bloom seemed ok 2 imo.
The sidekick is nothing like the Halo 5 magnum, and I was very glad to see that. I don’t want that abomination to whoop my cans for the next decade. As for its aiming issues, I 100% get that.
The whole build was unoptimized and nothing was really running well, and they mentioned some AA tuning changes to most of the guns, so I guess we’ll see what it all looks like in a few weeks. Until then, the sidekick is Robin. I’ve never heard of that pistol.
“Sidearms” have no place in Halo. If you don’t want the Pistol to be the main utility weapon that’s fine, but it still needs to have a niche of its own. “Backup” is not a niche, in a game where you can only hold two weapons regardless of size or shape, there is no room for a deadweight weapon like the Sidekick. Without the Bloom the Sidekick could be an amazing weapon that is limited by range and magazine size, but it seems like they have already decided the Mangler fills that role, so much for removing redundancy.
If you want to play with “sidearms” go play literally any other loadout shooter.
It is a niche specifically a clean up niche and a loadout niche to encourage pick ups.
Spawn with the H5G pistol and there’s no need for pick ups.
Traditionally the spawn side arm was the AR and that simply isn’t intuitive design for new players from other fps titles.
Side arm is great.
Increases kills to mag on the AR and I’m all for it.
I agree. The sidekick is not fun to use imo. The range is fine, but bloom on the sidekick with its short range is pointless. The sound of the gunshots of the sidekick is really irritating. I wish the gun sounded more deadly and had less of a popping sound.
