Upon release it was the 4th most populated play list that day.
The yesterday it was 5th and now, its 6th on the list. What a quick painful reality checking decline that is.
I’ve always suspected that the competitive community was only a small part of those playing and that, in fact, casuals, based on todays figures, at this moment of the post, outnumber the competitive players 57706 to 4179. That is, competitive players at this given moment only make up 13.8% of the current online (this moment) War Games population.
And, I suspect that a few of those 4179 aren’t really competitive players but causals just checking out what all the fuss is about.
The fact is, whether the CSR is visible or not, the so-called competitive players are a minority and small in number at that. Yet, with the vast number of negative posts on this site, you would mistakenly think that competitive players were somehow the vast majority.
Now, I support the competitive players having their own play list and even a visible rank as they want but, please don’t ever think that the competitive players are some how the be all and end all of the Halo Community. They are an important albeit small part of the said community. They wanted change, they are getting change…slowly. It might not be all to their liking but hey, you can only just do so much to cater for a minority. You have to think of the community as a whole.
Most people don’t want a competitive playlist I suppose. But that’s for all games. There will always be more casual players than competitive players in any game.
The reason I’m not playing it right now and I’m sure the reason many others aren’t is because of the quitters. People that purposely quit pre-match because they didn’t get the map/gametype that they wanted. It’s becoming ridiculous to the point that it’s not worth playing. If possible 343 needs to remove the ability to quit pre-match. At least then people might consider staying once placed in the actual match. This community is filled so many brats it’s sickening. “I don’t like this map! So I’m going to quit and kill the chances of my team having fun before the game even starts”. Suck it up and play the map…
As for your whole casuals outweighing competitives I would say yeah. Definitely, at this point the casuals do indeed outweigh the competitives. Considering Halo hasn’t had a proper ranking system in the game since Halo 3 I would assume most of the competitive players have left Halo. I don’t like how you don’t consider competitive play a good thing for everyone though. As long as the game is matching people up properly why wouldn’t you want competitive gameplay? A team full of level 17’s against another team full of 17’s is going to be just as fun and competitive as two teams of 50 playing against each other. I know their are points that I’m missing here but I’m kinda tired and really don’t feel like getting into the exact reasons why competitive play is good for all players and not just competitive players.
I will say this though… Competitive gameplay doesn’t hurt casuals but casual gameplay definitely hurts competitive players. All in all it’s much better for the entire game to be a competitive experience over a casual one.
My beef with it comes from the Radar (Whether it was intentional to not see the enemy or they derped.) Why would I need the radar to see my team mates when I can see the blue arrow over their heads?
I feel the radar only being able to see teammates is to encourage more teamwork, perhaps use of the mike. My team won CTF on Solace because of this fact.
It really depends on the time these numbers were calculated OP. Also, there are a big number of people who want CSR. Yesterday was also Family Day, perfect time for the teenage population to play.

When your team dies what happens to that blue arrow? It doesn’t turn into a red x it just disappears leaving you with no idea of exactly where your teammate died from. 343 for some silly reason removed the red x yet added a yellow x on your radar for where your team died. I rarely use it but at the moment it’s the only way to tell where a teammate just died. That would probably be the reasoning it’s in their.
What did you expect? Halo 4 lost the competitive community within the first month. Casuals can’t deal with the traditional style of Halo that we like so they revert to Infinity Slayer because they need their crutch. Halo 4 is a casuals game, reason why I switched to Crysis, the only time I play Halo now is when my friends are on or when I just feel like ranking up. If this TU fails, this new trilogys matchmaking can go shove itself into a hole. Competitive Halo died with Halo 3.

There may be no red X but it also doesn’t help that the radar doesn’t get the other side of the map in which your team is probably fighting the other team, but how will you know where the enemies position is since Halo 4 is basically mic less?
I wish people would stop with their neolithic attitudes of “Casual” and “Competitive”. We’re all players. Maybe we prefer different types of gameplay, but that’s no reason to single out one group of players and declare them trash before strutting up and down and proclaiming yourself the salt of the earth.

I agree with this. Team throwdown really isn’t that competitive to me. I wish ordinances would go all together, it isn’t halo. Plus the mechanics of the game really bug me. Halo in general has pretty much died with Reach.
this is the only playlist i will play… it is the only playlist without radar, stop complaining and go play another playlist if you dont want…you have like 8 other playlists to choose from… us competitive players only have one
not to mention half the competitive community gave up on halo 1 month after release…

Then who are these hundreds of people ravaging these forums begging for more competitive play?
What about Halo Council? They’re pretty competitive over there and all they were complaining about was the lack of competitiveness in Halo 4, now all of a sudden all the comp. are gone? They’re still here, but they’re just the minority.
> Gamers are not divided between the simple titles of “casual” and “competitive”.
But the vast majority of posts here label casuals/randoms v competitive players. But, enlighten me…expand if you will, on what other type of players/gamers there are?
You see, some would say that casual players like to win…that would be an oxymoron in that if you play to win, then you are competitive, not causal. Casuals play to have fun. Competitive players play to win as well as have fun.

I am a casual player but, even I see that having a radar of any sort/configuration in competitive play lists is wrong.

You may see a lot of competitive players complaining here on the forums, but the truth is, the vast majority of the Halo community is not competitive.
Most casual players don’t even have forum accounts, so that’s why it seems like there’s a lot of competitive players.

As university studies haven’t recommenced here yet, I have been playing about 10-12 hours a day…the 4th, 5th and 6th have remained consent through out the days indicated while actual number go up and down…its the position on the overall War Games play list I’m referring too but, adding a snapshot at that moment of numbers makes no difference. It’s the potions on the list and it has been declining since launch.

This, if the whole of MP had the team throwdown settings (AKA Classic Halo) it still wouldn’t reach the pop. #s that Halo 3 achieved, Halo just isn’t the thing anymore. People don’t seem to realise that.
