Trying to play team snipers only to watch an entire team run around with a shotgun is beyond annoying. I’d rather take the leave penalty than deal with that annoyance. I’ve always hated that this mode included shotty/snipers in its playlist.
Well, the mode is called Shotty Snipers, and Shotty Snipers have been a thing since forever. Fyi, older Halos didn’t just have Shotgun variant of a Snipers mode, some had the Magnum, making it a Shotty-Magnum setting instead.
The problem I’d like to say, lies entirely in the map design for Infinite in general. They have a strong design logic which is something along the lines of “The arena middle is lava, safe corridors circling the center” This design template is extremely prevalent across all maps, and is actually a symptom of the map Midship.
It feels to me that Infinite in house map makers simply took Midship and remixed it for all of Infinite’s maps. And the funny thing is they did it badly too because Midship actually has good cover for the central area, having grav lifts and plenty of LoS breaks.
Now take Infinite maps Catalyst, Bazaar, Streets for example. They all have very well protected, corridor like paths circling the whole map, but the middle is wide, open, unsafe and often times unpopulated unless lured there by an objective. Aquarius would also count to this pool but it actually has decent LoS breaks in top mid so it’s not fair to include it. I don’t even wanna talk about Livewire. It’s just a corridor camping nightmare of a map with a pointless sniper tower which oversees low traffic areas.
