Okay, obviously you good people over there at 343 Industries don’t really analyse results very effieciently. LOOK AT THE POPULATIONS!
It is very clear that WAY more people like playing Vanilla Reach over TU by looking at the population (as of right now):
Team Slayer: 8,000+
Super Slayer: 2,000+
See what this means?! It infuriates me that all of my favourite playlists (almost all of them), have been taken over by the TU even though more people like Vanilla!
You can’t base all of your major decisions from whiners on the forums!
This is what whiners on the forums are: A VERY small percentage of people who care enough to make accounts just to hate on 343i and tell them how Reach needs to be completely reinvented! All we need is a FEW of the LARGE problems fixed; not miniscule and irrelevant problems.
In conclusion of the forum-tryhards point, you must realise that the 100,000 other players that aren’t on the forums, are happily playing Reach the way it is!
I am not whining for your information to whoever reads this, I am whining ABOUT whiners.
TL;DR: People need to stop whining and 343i needs to go from being awesome to impeccable.
> Team Slayer is a name people recognize. People who dont visit the forums probably dont know what super slayer or even know what the tu is all about.
Everyone in the world who touches Reach gets that “Monthly Update” and probably try whatever is new out. More people are playing Team Slayer than ANYTHING!
I hardly think that it JUST SO HAPPENS that the most popular playlists in the game is non-TU…
The population does not indicate popularity. Most people who play Reach have no idea what TU is. They would still play Team Slayer with TU and not know the difference. The only people who know what goes on in Halo are the people here on waypoint.
> Not tryin to be a Debbie Downer here but most people are kinda stupid. They won’t even try Super Slayer just because it’s not called Team Slayer.
They did not need to, it was brought to their playlist and apparently overwhelmingly was voted out and the population in "super slayer is going to show you almost exactly how many people are interested in the TU. (not many =/)
When the TU was announced, many players said it would bring every Halo player back into the game and put Reach at the top.
It didn’t.
When Anniversary was released with TU updates across several playlists, many players said it would bring every Halo player back into the game and put Reach at the top.
It didn’t.
When the voting system for TU going into Team Slayer was announced, many players said it would bring every Halo player back into the game and put Reach at the top.
It didn’t.
We now have a seperate playlist that clearly shows that the TU isn’t as popular as they would like to believe and are coming up with excuses as to why its numbers are so low.
I guarantee you that if the numbers were reversed those TU players would be jumping for joy and constantly using it as reference for why they’re right. Any comments stating otherwise would be immediately shut down.

The problem with the vanilla TU dichotomy is inherent to playlists.
There is no accurate way to gauge preference when we have so many different playlists that offer such varied experiences.
Right now, the menu tells me that there are 115,678 player online.
8964 in TS
2335 in super
839 in arena
1888 in rumble
9516 in LD
5807 in swat
3311 in snipers
614 in objective
1333 in double team
2030 in Multics
2295 in invasion
9130 in BTB
334 in Squad dlc
622 in ZB
1470 in anniversary BTB
487 in anniversary ffa
So which has the most population vanilla or TU, vanilla by 10,000… but what happens when we consider specialized playlists? Then we should ignore LD for certain. Vanilla goes down to the same as TU +about 500…
What about big team battle? That has everything but LD beat by a bit. Does that mean the TU is best? Nope. There is no vanilla option for btb unless we think of invasion as such, but I think we all know the problems with that.
We also have to consider why people might not play either TS or super… perhaps the like a bigger battle than either list provides. Maybe they like an environment with vehicles or where AL doesn’t matter. Same goes for the removal of bleedthru… super slayer is not TS + TU… so those who liked bleedthru but hate vanilla cqc go play where cqc is irrelevant…
The reasons why we cannot compare TS to super are myriad. To do so we would need a perfectly symmetrical set if playlists.

The TU was also forced into BTB which is enjoying a serious population boost. Now why is BTB having a population boost? Is it the super fun TU? Or the super fun new game variant?
I think players have got caught up in this quest for the perfect asymmetrical competitive balance delivered in settings, which only interest a few hardcore players.
Most people play for the pure joy of the game and the day that this is untrue of Halo will be the day that I stop playing.
Honestly, when Bungie was developing Halo CE, you think there was meetings about asymmetrical competitive balance or making a game that would appeal to the average gamer?
Like other have posted, a lot of people don’t visit the forums, and don’t even know what TU means. They just get on, recognize Team Slayer, and play it. They most likely do not even notice the difference between playing TU and Vanhilla Reach. So population says nothing.

Couple of things, if nobody knew what the TU was because they did not visit forums, then by extension, BTB heavies would have made very little difference in the population in BTB, but it has. Second point, if the TU was the one with the vastly larger population, 343 and TU lovers would be siting it as proof that it is superiority.
Make every excuse you want, notice not notice, like it or dont, the TU has about as much draw as MLG and Arena unless its forced into playlist and that says more then every equivocation people are trying to make about its popularity.
Ok so bottom line, Super Slayer in my opinion, was made so anyone can win, especially noobs. Team Slayer requires more skill and tactics whereas Super Slayer It’s all about who’s more aggressive and who drank more coffee or red bull at the time. I know this from playing Super Slayer and seeing lots of low ranks getting the high score. I was doing terrible because I had that tactical mindset. Well I threw that out and started getting better scores. Your aim doesn’t have to be as accurate so just go nuts like we all did when we first started reach. Ya know, like the noobs, just start jumping around and shooting people! It just bothers me that these noobs actually think they’re good, but put them in regular team slayer where u have to time ur shots and plan a little more, they’ll be right back to where they should be. So in conclusion, Super Slayer= faster easier kills, not alot of skill required, but fun and great for noobs!! Regular Team Slayer= Skill required, higher ranks will prevail(like myself lol!), and bottom line a lot more thinking involved which is both fun and challenging. So all you noobies out there, you want to see where u place in the mix and test if you’re any good? Go with team slayer!!

If I had to bet, I would say that vanilla is more popular.
The fact that TU has been moved into just about every unique play experience list has likely pushed people people not playing invasion or LD who are vehemently against the TU to team slayer. The populations in the TU lists definitely have TU supporters and vanilla supporters (except maybe super slayer). But we must also consider that people who prefer reach to other games might do so for its vanilla incarnation (which plays into the notion that many halo fans who disagreed with reach have moved on until h4), which would be a boost for vanilla lists.
My bet would be a 2/3 split for vanilla. But 33 percent TU support isn’t insignificant.
