Team Doubles ranks are BS. I miss H2 or H3's 1-50.

My friend and I decided to play our 10 games of Team Doubles this month to see where we would place. The results were VERY surprising as I got a Gold 6 and he got a Silver 5. We’re not surprised because we believed we deserved Platinum or better (Gold and Silver seemed reasonable), but more because I received a higher ranking than him despite him carrying our two-person team almost every game. He had a better KDA 7 out of 10 times.

How can this be? Obviously, we had the same winning percentage. So, that combined with him having a better KDA (or pretty much any skill-based number you can find), should mean he gets a higher rank - correct? I mean, I could even maybe understand us having the same rank, but definitely not me being this much higher.

Below is a quick snapshot of how we did each game. I have bolded the games where he (the eventual Silver 5) clearly outplayed me (the eventual Gold 6).

Thank you for any input you have!

Game 1: Truth 9/9
Result: 25-10 win over two unranked opponents
Me: 15 kills, +10.3 KDA
Him: 10 kills, +5.7 KDA

Game 2: The Rig 9/20
Result: 25-17 win over Gold 3 and Gold 1
Me: 10 kills, -0.7 KDA
Him: 15 kills, +8.3 KDA

Game 3: Molten 9/20
Result: 25-22 defeat versus Gold 6 and Silver 5
Me: 10 kills, +1.0 KDA
Him: 12 kills, -1.7 KDA

Game 4: Truth 9/22
Result: 25-12 win over Silver 5 and unranked opponent
Me: 7 kills, -1.0 KDA
Him: 18 kills, +16.3 KDA

Game 5: Empire 9/22
Result: 25-16 win over Gold 2 and Silver 5
Me: 10 kills, +1.7 KDA
Him: 16 kills, +10.7 KDA

Game 6: Overgrowth 9/22
Result: 25-24 defeat versus two unranked opponents
Me: 12 kills, -1.3 KDA
Him: 12 kills, +3.3 KDA

Game 7: Tyrant 9/22
Result: 25-13 win over Gold 1 and unranked opponent
Me: 10 kills, +3.0 KDA
Him: 15 kills, +11.3 KDA

Game 8: Riptide 9/22
Result: 25-7 win over Gold 5 and unranked opponent
Me: 10 kills, +7.7 KDA
Him: 15 kills, +14.0 KDA

Game 9: Tyrant 9/22
Result: 25-22 defeat versus two unranked opponents
Me: 9 kills, -1.7 KDA
Him: 13 kills, +2.7 KDA

Game 10: Molten 9/22

The placement matches are weird idk what it takes into account.

Totally agree. Maybe a random rank generator?

Anyone else know? Thanks!

It takes into account your enemies skill compared to yours. If an enemy is traditionally worse than you, you don’t get much rank for beating them. If you beat an enemy that is traditionally better than you you get a large boost to your rank.

So you can win all 10 all of your placement matches but it doesn’t really determine your placement, just how well you did compared to your 10 enemies.

Also, the rank visual system doesn’t matter. They both function the same- they match you with people of close skill and show you a rank. There is no difference. It’s all in your head!

My teammate and I defeated and lost to the same opponents over a ten match span while he compiled stats considerably better than mine. Yet, he gets a Silver 5 and I get Gold 6. How?

Until this happened, I too believed that the visual didn’t matter and it was reskinned 1-50. Now I know that’s not the case. I played ranked H2 and H3 a ton. After ten games with these results/stats he’d be ranked ahead of me 100 times out of 100.

What’s his tag?

You were placed low because you beat players who don’t know how to hold a controller. That’s how the game works. If you haven’t placed yet then you’ll automatically vs. previously low ranked/ low ranked/ unranked players. Not a hard concept.

Also, you can’t praise Bungie’s ranking system and step on 343’s when you only played a hand full of games with Bungie’s system.

As soon as 1 through 50 left halo halo declined. Mhmm maybe there’s your sign. It just makes more since for everyone to start at the same place and work your way up from there. Or even a hybrid system I had talked about a while back of keeping the new system now but each division has its own 1-50 rank. Matching would be based on division priority first then match ranks.

I don’t think I can call out tags per forum rules. Here’s a link to game 10 though:

Lol I was arguing I should be ranked lower than I was. Please don’t comment if you don’t read the original post at the very least. Also, I played thousands of games of H2 and H3 from around 2004 on…I’m old.

You’re right. And to think I defended the new ranks and 343 until this Doubles -Yoink-. Now I’m calling it out and only getting “copy and paste” responses from people who must just go around blindly defending 343 on every thread.

They could have given us both Bronzes and I l wouldn’t have questioned it. It’s that I got a Gold and he got a Silver.

We can talk about people in a positive manner. The calling out rule is to keep people from saying “CoverMyMeds is a -Yoink!- -Yoink- who mods and cheats and is unsportsmanlike!”

Haha! Good point. His GT is HOUSE OG 1.

Maybe your friend had a better KDA against better players. The rank system seems to be pretty good in my experience.

Wouldn’t that mean he’d have a better rank than me though? His KDA was much better than mine yet I got a Gold 6 and he got a Silver 5.

Also I agree about the rank system. This Doubles case is the first WTF moment for me…

I have won against diamonds and onyx players before and have never placed diamond.

Sorry I meant worse players. There has to be a reason for it, but nobody knows for sure what stats are taken into account.

Ranks are put up by csr. It also takes into account the previous season ranks. Personal performance means nothing (as it should) and it’s based on your W/L to go along with your csr. It’s really simple, look at your csr, compare previous season ranks, ect ect.

honestly tho you’re talking about ranking issues in silver and gold brackets…in a dead playlist. That’s all there is to it. Want better placements? Grind as that’s how you achieve ranks. There’s literally vids, threads, articles all over the place showing how the system works.

Fyi: I can link you to bungie forums from ten years ago and you’ll see ranking issues carrying over to this one. No difference, the 1-50 was never a good system, and it really does exactly what this one does but us presented differently lol.

DON’T MISS IT AT ALL
