I have been an avid player of Halo Multiplayer since Halo 2, and I’ve got to say I’ve been playing Arena for the past couple weeks and I’m very disappointed in team balancing. It seems every game is a landslide victory that just becomes aggravating every time I join a server. I’m not too familiar with what can be done through patches or updates, and IF there is a solution then I recommend it be done as soon as possible. Me and my friends have honestly found it to be more of a chore to play online than actual fun, leading us to find entertainment in other, older games that we still enjoy. I’ve put a lot of faith and trust into 343 and honestly if these multiplayer issues don’t get fixed, (I have other issues with a few other aspects of multiplayer but team balancing is by far the most frustrating) I may soon find myself not being able to spend another dime on future Halo games, which honestly makes me sad considering that I grew up playing these games.
A lot of it, i think has to do with the fact that you cant derank past a single metal group
if you place anywhere in the Gold rankings, you will never derank past Gold 1… if you place anywhere in the platinum ranks, you will never derank past platinum 1… this makes for team balancing issues that you are talking about because players that actually belong in the lower ranks will never get there.
Also, when you get ranked. If everyone stays in your prelim matches without leaving you can rank very high because the team that has 4 players -wins most of the time… You could be Onyx lvl and go 7 straight games where someone leaves your team and rank in silver. There is no auto-balance in H5, like in other games. So the rankings are basically meaningless and the matching system is based around your rankings. So, yeah.

I’ve never been in a game where the rank didnt match my own by some degree… so idk what you’re saying here?
are you saying that a silver could be placed in a match with an onyx player? not going to happen.
also a team of 4 doesn’t necessarily win most of the time simply because they are a fireteam of 4 in a MM playlist with a max fireteam of 4. the game will try harder to find other fireteams with similar playercounts - its been like this since halo 3
unless 343i changed this matchmaking mechanic, like they changed much of the rest of the game. I’m not complaining about anything less than the sheer lack of HALO in this game namely the lack of game modes.

Except it grades your pre lim matches individually. Me and 3 friends all did the same 10 arena break out games and only won 4. I got diamond, 2 got platinum and 1 got gold.
The way CSR works is PRIMARILY on Win Loss, then by other factors including K/D, Powerweapon pickup, powerweapon kills etc…so essentially you could in theory lose a game but still go up in CSR

What I am saying is that you could be an Onyx level player and still in placed in Silver, Gold, whatever, based on this system. They rank you according to the preliminary matches based on your team performance. Not the individual. This Onyx player could have easily gotten silver because there is no auto-balance in place. Like when someone leaves your team, you get a loss. That loss is factored into your rank during your preliminary’s. When the game is 3v4 your not testing the skill level of another person, you are testing at a disadvantage. Your ranking cannot go down, but it can go up, only until you have another disadvantage or advantage. In time it will level out but I believe too many players are stuck with their ranking, unable to up OR down, no matter what their skill level is based on these disadvantages. The ranking system is broken.

Lies. Look at my post above. Pre lims are based on individual performances.

Coming in here to shed some light on a crappy situation you are in. So how Halo Ranking system affects the matchmaking system in a way. They built the matchmaking system off League of Legends/DOTA Ranking system “ELO”. The only problem with ELO is that you need to have a really huge community…Which Halo does not have anymore this game is probably looking at 25k-30k strong a day at best. Anyways back to the topic so when you search in League of Legends you get placed in a rank gold, silver you get where I’m going with this. So if you are gold you only match people in gold tier 1-6. Tracking so far? So here is where two problems this game has for matchmaking that needs a patch.
- No Solo Que when searchin Arena
- No enough players to support ELO Ranking SystemThere is no Solo Que for matchmaking so if you are searching by yourself you should only match at most a team of two…or four randoms…But there isn’t one so you will match a team of four and you will get three randoms or a team of two or three (if your lucky). Second is the ELO Rank, there simply isn’t enough players to support this style with how the servers are setup. All the servers are setup by region so if your Gold 3 and no one happens to be playing in gold tier around your region ( Region is pretty huge tho ) …You are SOL you are gonna be playing kids in a higher skill cap then yourself.
