The team balancing in halo infinite is not very good in my opinion. I’m in low onyx and still getting gold players in my lobbies. If your in onyx 1500 you should only match with other onyx 15-1600 and diamond 4-6. That gives all players a chance to use their skill to advance. When you put a gold player on a team of full onyx against a team of diamond an onyx you either giving the gold player a free win or giving a severe disadvantage to the rest of the team. I’m sure you’ve seen the recent experiment showing that social games effect your ranked games and I also have a problem with that. Social games are where I want to relax and being put into try hard social games is not what I want. If I want to try hard I play ranked. Another problem is how it shows that if you lose several games you will just get put into a game with teammates that will carry you and if you win several games you get put with team mates that will drag you down. It is very frustrating having the most kills least deaths and most objective time in the whole game and losing. I also do not like the point system in ranked. I have never gained more than 11 points for winning but have lost 22 points from losing. I feel much more punished than rewarded which is not a fun experience. I had a play session where I won 4 games and lost 4 games and at the end I had lost a total of 50 points. If I am the best on the losing team I will lose way more points than I will gain being the best on the winning team or in the whole game. In that play session I did not gain more than ine point for winning and lost 10 or more for every loss. I have never only lost one point for a loss but consistently only gain one point for a win.
Someone might have brought them into the game with them. I don’t think it’s a very good idea allowing such a lower rank to join in. Even if the teams are balanced around it kind defeats the objective to secure 8 players at a similar rank like you said.
I had a game last night with a Platinum player in at Onyx 1600+. Seems unfair to them more than anything. I think that’s part of why the ranks are getting reset Tuesday to help avoid these scenarios a little more.
I want to add I literally just lost 18 points from losing a 3v4. I’m on top of the score board. My third team mate went 7-17 that makes no sense in any world. Just grinded to get those twenty points and lost them in the most ridiculous way possible. You should never lose more than one point from losing a 3v4 if I only ever gain one point from winning a 4v3. If I don’t gain 18 points from winning the next game I swear to god I will never touch this game again.
Update. Slayer on recharge. Went 23 and 10 with 5 perfect kills 2 triple kills 2 killing sprees final score
50-32. Had a lot of fun with infinite but until the ranked points actually work I will never play this game again. Fix team balancing. I think the problem is how heavily weighted points are on wins and losses. It is so inconsistent. I can have a game like the one above and gain seven points or I can have a game where I’m 5-11 but still win and gain 10 points. Whereas if I lose a game going 5-11 I may lose 5 points or I could lose a game going 23-10 and lose 18 points. There is no consistency with the points and I feel robbed every time I play. When I go 23 and 10 with 5 perfects 2 triples 2 killing sprees I expect to get highly rewarded not a measly seven points. When I go 16-18 in a 3v4 with a teammate going 7-17 I don’t expect to get punished too bad especially not the 18 points that were robbed from me. This series of games has put the nail in the coffin for me I cannot enjoy the game I’ve been waiting six years for and the franchise I’ve been playing since I was six years old.
You’re putting a lot of stock in ranked points ![]()
Not sure what you mean
It’s a shame you are not enjoying the game due to the ranked level fluctuations.
While I had a certain goal for myself to reach I just like playing ranked for the game modes and exiting games, nothing quite like 50-49 win or loss. It’s super intense.
Hope you can find enjoyment in it again.
I hope I can too. I always felt there was something off with the rank system and once I got into onyx and could actually see how the points work i figured out what was off. Competitive halo is what I get the most fun out of because of the rewarding feeling of ranking up especially at a high level. I think I would enjoy social games if I spawned with a battle rifle. The battle rifle takes a fair bit of skill to be consistent with whereas the reticule bloom of the ar and sidekick promote rng instead of skill. I like to put it like this: an ar can get kills in against a full team of brs but a br struggles to get kills against a full team of ars. I appreciate the reply btw ![]()
I like the AR/Sidekick for social as I think it allows more casual players a good chance at fighting back. BR starts is very aggressive for them. But it does mean the social modes are not that fun for me. I love BTB and ranked on this game, everything else is a bit meh. Fiesta can be okay.
Competitive is very good, it’s hard to but I try to ignore the number. I just want good games. Had a really intense 3-2 win in CTF to end the night and it was a lot of fun. They are doing a rank reset Tuesday and making changes to it. May not find it any better, but you might. So there’s that to try. Maybe you’ll like it.
It sounds like they are going to fix a lot of the problems. We will see when we get there. Another thing I find weird it how a lot of the pro players are complaining that the rank it to heavily weighted on your kd but I have had the opposite experience. If I lose a game lets say with 40 kills and 15 deaths I will lose points. If I win that game like I said I’ve never gained more than 11 points even with games like that. But I’ve lost double that. I’m kinda worried about the rank reset how they said everyone will likely be a tier lower than they were. I know I am an onyx level player. I’ve beat 1800 onyx’s in 1v1 and was onyx in halo 5 but because of the way these point systems have been working for me I can’t get past 1550 onyx even with a 63% win ratio (last time I checked at least)
The gains and losses are generally dependant on the probability of you to win and also where your MMR is at. So a high k/d in a single game shouldn’t affect it too much. It’s more an overall thing. Consistently performing at that higher level. I was gaining rank really fast, but I’ve started to stagnate a bit around the 1650 mark now so I’m pretty sure it will be really hard for me to level up more now. I think no matter how much I win the system will keep pilling me back to this sort of area.
Awesome win %, I think you’ll be fine. Feel like it will mostly affect the Plat/Diamond players as they’re all congested with most the population falling into that. Onyx in Crossplay is top 4.1% according to 343 which is similar to Halo 5. So I imagine you’ll be able to do it again as I can’t see them wanting Onyx to be too little a percentage. Placements let you get in D5 off the bounce now too so if you were Onyx before you’ll likely hit D5 immediately, almost Onyx!
This game is unreal. I literally can’t go more than three games without having someone on my team be afk or disconnect. Just had a capture the flag game on bazaar winning by one capture with 2 minutes left and no chance of losing. One of my team mates lags out but doesn’t fully disconnect. The other team finally got a capture and all the way through overtime that team mate was never kicked for inactivity. To top it off a game that was basically a Guaranteed win cost me 15 points because it counted as a 4v4 loss but maybe it would have been the same if it was counted as a 3v4 considering I lost EIGHTEEN POINTS FOR LOSING A 3v4. FIX THE POINT SYSTEM FIX DISCONNECTS AND FIX TEAM BALANCING FOR GOD SAKES. THIS GAME IS 6 YEARS IN THE MAKING AND RUNS WORSE THAN HALO 2 COMING UP ON 20 YEARS OLD.
Wow… literally after I sad that just loaded into a 1 v4
Words cannot describe the experience I just had with this game. Bazaar ctf winning by one capture. Teammate disconnects we lose in overtime. Oddball streets load into a ONE VERSUS FOUR NOT A SINGLE TEAMATE. Strongholds streets winning 157 to 50 teammate disconnects lose 158 to 250. All consecutive games. Not to mention the recharge slayer game where I had one afk teammate who died six times before picking up the controller and guess how many kills we lost by. SIX. I lost multiple points for each of those games. How does it make sense that I lose points for a game I was going to win. I lose points because the game doesn’t work. I lose games on behalf of poor development. I want to have fun with this game but just can’t when I only feel punished even when I win. Gaining whole point for a win is worse than losing ten points for a loss. I’m so over this broken rank system. I know what rank I am. I know what my skill level is and this game does not reflect that when I lose points for 3v4’s and every other game is a 3v4.
There is something playing up.
In my placement games I copped the same opposition team five times (four of those in a row).
And they were the classic grinding stack - a couple of Onyx players paired up with a Gold smurf (managed healthy scores) and a low Silver decoy (appeared genuinely bad).
We (my random team) were thrashed on each occasion. Literally.
And the frustrating thing was that it was the Silver player running around doing the T-bagging. Sigh.
And I guess the Gold player may not have been an actual Smurf account. My scores would probably be healthy if I was linked up with a couple of dominatrix onyx players.
Just had a strongholds game with a golf player that went 0-20. Guess what we lost. How is that balanced
Looking at other peoples stats on the halo infinite stat tracker I see one person 40 losses out of 62 games and they did not go down a single point. They went up 196 points. They had 8 losses in a row and didn’t lose a single point. If I had a series of games like that I would drop down to bronze. It does not matter if I get 100 kills in a match if I lose I lose points. How is this person getting 8 losses in a row without losing one point. How is this person gaining nearly 200 points after losing 40 games. Where is the consistency. If I won 22 games I would maybe get 100 points. And that’s if I won them in a row. If I lost 40 out of 62 I would lose atleast 400 points without a doubt. If I won 40 out of 62 I would probably only have like 40 points to show for it.
I assume they were in a squad.
They may have been a deliberate effort to help highly ranked players on their team get more favorable opponents.
Or they could have been a genuine Gold player who was struggling, out of their depth.
But even at 0-20 they may still have been playing a useful role. Running to the right spots. Calling out. Being a damage sponge. Defending occupied holds - just slowing the other team enough… Etc
It’s always hard to compare the CSR journey.
The W and L can behave very differently if they were unexpected. It’s all about taking those opportunities when they are presented.
And the shape of your MMR curve changes the behaviour a lot. A wide and volatile curve vs a mature narrow one.
