Team arena weapon pad camping

I understand the purpose of power weapons and active camo/ overshields as strategic gameplay enhancers, but at times I feel many players use them as a crutch. I’ve had many games where players literally camp them the whole game. Maybe this is just the way I play, but I just pick stuff up as it is convienent.

In my opinion, I admire someone who can rack up kills with the basic loadout, not rockets and spawn camping with a sniper.

This is not a thread saying they shouldn’t be used or should be removed, just that power weapons and the overshield/ active camo shouldn’t be a replacement for skill with AR and magnum.

What do you think? Am I just salty for all the times being killed with overshielded enemies?

The purpose of power ups/weapons is to change the tide of a game. They’re a must when it comes to halo as that’s part of what it’s built off of. When it comes to it I don’t see most people camping it. I myself with my own group fight for the first pickup but after that we rotate around the map until 30 seconds before the next set of power ups/weapons to keep our advantage and to ensure the other team doesn’t get the stuff that can change the tide of a game. They also add variety and used to be more skill based until this push for high magnetism came through. In the end people won’t just ignore them as they’re to important to the game and in the right hands can do many things.

I think it’s a mix of being salty and seeing a lousy player. I agree with you when you say it’s admirable when someone racks up kills with an AR and a pistol. The kid that goes straight for the rockets is probably just trying to troll or isn’t good enough to get kills with an AR. Which can be annoying because they make the game less fun by camping and taking advantage of the games gifts to us.

camping power weapons was always a thing in halo

Dude, that’s what good competitive players do… not so much camp but they’ll be mindful of the weapon spawns and try to be there when the timer hits 0:00.

In previous Halo games, you had to KNOW when the weapons were spawning. There was no 30 second timer to notify players. It’s very important to control the power weapons, you’re not going to win without them.

So if you want to win more, be more mindful of the weapon spawns. It’s part of being skilled at the game. Same goes for grabbing power-ups…

It doesn’t bother me, since all players can work towards the power weapons. That said, I hear what you’re saying. I wouldn’t mind having an Arena game play without any power weapons. “Arena No Fiesta”?

I agree, holding the weapons is definitely also a way to use power weapons and power ups, even if the people holding them aren’t getting frenzies or anything. It’s less common at least for me to see someone get more than a few kills with the sniper or even the rockets before getting killed/ running out of ammo. And I agree H5 weapons definitely take less skill, so that is probably a reason they are being picked up as soon as they spawn.

Most of the time they are lousy players but occasionally I have to concede they are better players using things to their advantage. I have always played a pretty mobile game, never camping and rarely holding a position for more than a few seconds, so I do think I have to probably teach myself to be more aware of stuff on the map.

I prefer a mobile game too. Campers always annoy me. However I do feel your gripe with kids that are skilled yet still camp to get the power weapons. That’s just lame and annoyingly OP.

My gripe isn’t so much frustration with power weapons and power ups than people who can only get kills with them, which technically can be possible to have the whole game if teams control the right areas or if they are just the most motivated to pick them up, but I guess I’m just saying I find players skilled enough to not even need to use them in the first place much more skilled in general. I play a lot of SWAT so the dynamics of just pure map awareness and reaction time spill over to my way of playing team arena/ slayer.

I do agree that proper technique with power weapons and power ups does take skill, but I guess I see less of that and more camping pads because my slayer and team arena rank has hovered around mid to low gold. I’m sure I would find less of this in higher ranks.

Haha that would be amazing. I guess SWAT kinda satisfies this but plain old slayer would be cool.

If you don’t like it, then take advantage of them. Camp the campers for free kills. Also you can work on your combat evolved medals.

I have a pretty mobile gameplay style and do end up using power weapons quite a bit, but I also think I could benefit from being a bit more aware of drops and play certain zones more. I tend to ignore certain parts of the map that are really open (probably trained myself to do this from SWAT) where some of the pads are, like rockets on empire or active camo on plaza. And I probably should start working on that commendation haha.

That’s usually what good players do, not really camp the weapon pad the entire game but the last few seconds so they can pick it up and ensure it for their team. Besides, don’t you get any satisfaction from killing someone who had an OS or Rockets/Snipe? I sure do.

I totally understand waiting the last few seconds and strategically controlling them, I’m just talking about the concept of people who are scared to engage without a power weapon or OS or hiding in a corner with camo. But yeah, I feel good and give a 'bag anytime I get a fair kill on an enemy with a full OS.

Thing is, if someone is just carelessly camping the weapon pads, as the timer is counting down, that’s like… a free kill… lol

The game puts a LOT of emphasis on the concept of: ‘control the power weapons to control the game’. And its a concept that is extremely relevant in game modes like Team Area. Your whole team should be trying to make sure that the enemy CANNOT control the power weapons. Look at it this way: you’re fighting over the map control and the power weapons, not just having a scrap.

There you go - everyone know now where and when the weapon spawn, welcome to Halo 5

Its annoying, that is the name of the game, especially in doubles. Whoever controls the power weapons controls the game. It would be better it they didn’t tell you when the power weapons were available and they randomized its spawn points. That would get people moving around.

Totally agree with you.

In Halo 3/Halo Reach the team with power weapons are hard to kill too but it`s not so bad like in Halo 5.
