Tame your event expectations

I’m sure everyone here is very excited for the July 23rd xbox event where we’re finally going to see Infinite. Just wanted to say if you’re particularly interested in the multiplayer, might wanna tame expectations. Sounds like it’ll focus on campaign.

I saw this earlier today & it broke my heart. A bit frustrating too if they end up not showing the multiplayer. We’ve waited long enough

Sounds like campaign is a heavy focus which is smart after the terrible reception to halo 5’s

To be honest, I’m fine with it focusing on campaign. It will show gameplay (as has been stated), maybe new weapons, etc. A multiplayer showcase would be basically the same in terms of content. Except show a new gamemode or a return of one. Anyway, it’d be to experience the multiplayer than watch it through a livestream imo.
I also have a feeling they might announce or even start flighting either during or after the event. They could also release a ‘demo’ for insiders during the xbox demo event (21st-28th July) like how previous titles had E3 demos. So people can see it and experience the game. Anyway thats my take.
Edit: Also they probably said this ahead of time because of the high expectations people have put out for the event.

I’m totally fine with that when at the end of the presentation a demo/beta/whatever will be announced.

I don’t know how you can be 4 months from expected launch and not show multiplayer. On top of that, it would mean no beta. So when would this “beta” be? 2 days before launch?

I hope that blurb is some kind of misinformation or something cause to be this close to release and not see multiplayer in action would be absolutely agonizing. There’s short marketing cycles, but this is borderline “what are you trying to hide?” territory.

Why does it mean no beta? Maybe the way they’re wanting to show off MP IS a beta, who knows.

To be fair here, their exact words were “The first look at the campaign” and not “The first look at the campaign but no multiplayer teasers at all period”. Besides, if they show any non-cutscene play of the Campaign, they hey - we got some look at what the gameplay might be like. So that’s a plus I think?

That being said, I’d tame those expectations as well - just because they didn’t explicitly say “No multiplayer at all” doesn’t mean they WILL show it either. But to me, gameplay is gameplay even if it’s vs AI and not vs people, so I’ll take it either way. Maybe they’ll say something about when the flighting/beta will be during that event too.

Cause if during this event they don’t outright say the beta is available for download today or maybe later this week, I’d doubt it would be available until at least a month later (like late August.) And by that point, it’s simply not a beta. There wouldn’t be enough time to influence anything significant between then and launch. There’s barely any time right now.

The xbox showcase is like 3 days or something right? Perhaps they will show campaign on the 23rd and then the next day show some multiplayer or whatever. Note I am speculating that is what they may do during the event, not a confirmation.

Well it’s to be expected. Typically they show off campaign gameplay first with multiplayer getting attention a bit later on so I don’t think multiplayer gameplay or even some sort of beta flighting should be too far off.

Maybe we will get no mp info, but I’m hoping if that’s the case we will get a date on the beta.

FINALLY someone who gets it. Truth can be be bare, but anything else needs to dressed up or covered up. I feel like they’re not confident in their product or it’s just flat out not ready. IDK very frustrating.

Didn’t Apex Legends basically stealth launch and become one of the most popular games on the planet within a week?

At the end of the day, literally all that matters is that the game functions and is fun. If Halo Infinite launches with fun gameplay, a decent volume of content, and few bugs, it’s going to be a smashing success.

It doesn’t mean no beta. They could say ‘the halo infinite multiplayer beta starts after the show’ and focus on the campaign during the show.

They’ll still show gameplay, so how is this ‘borderline “what are you trying to hide?” territiory’?

Personally, I think that 343 is listening to us and being as open as possible without Microsoft getting annoyed. Just look at all the good they’re doing with MCC. They brought it to PC, added Reach, and are adding ODST Firefight which is what we’ve been asking for. I doubt they’d want to ruin their streak with not only one of the most anticipated games going into next gen, but the xbox’s launch title. But that’s just what I think.

Highly unlikely they would ever elect not to show off multiplayer in any capacity whatsoever, while at the same time announce the multiplayer beta is available or just around the corner. What’s the sense in that?

It’s “what are you trying to hide?” territory because if they only show campaign gameplay, it’s gonna be heavily scripted and they can choose to show or not show whatever they want. Same thing as the halo 4 and 5 first-look campaigns. At least with a multiplayer beta, it’s pretty much cards on the table, this is what we got. Exponentially harder to control people experimenting with the engine and testing mechanics out that way. 4 months out, we should have had this experience already. Not a pre-recorded campaign demo, that should have happened months ago.

Lol @ multiplayer gameplay reveals not being scripted.

There’s an argument to be made multiplayer gameplay reveals are more scripted than campaign reveals a good amount of the time.

I wouldn’t want it any other way.
For people who only care about MP, I’m sure there will be plenty of Hype-building later on.

Are people forgetting that the whole Xbox demo event goes from the 21st to the 27th? A multiplayer beta could easily be announced during that time or even shown and the new blog hinted at something possibly coming after the tourney on the 18th. After the 23rd all bets are off with info so after that day, info is going to be coming out a lot more.

Campaign is going to tell you most of what you need to know about multiplayer anyways so I don’t really understand the disappointment. Unless the multiplayer is radically different from the campaign and they just share an engine and resources, which would be weird, what you see in campaign is more or less going to be what you see in multiplayer only with PvP as opposed to PvE. That being said I would still be surprised if a multiplayer reveal was that far behind the campaign reveal, even if the campaign is the focus of this particular event.

We are way way past the point where any Beta or Flighting is going to have a significant impact on the final product outside a a few bug fixes and minor tweaks so regardless of how you feel about the multiplayer when its revealed that is what you are going to be stuck with at launch.

For my part new Halo multiplayer has been consistently disappointing since 2010 so even if I don’t get what I want out of multiplayer, I would be fine with becoming a campaign only player provided the story and encounters are good. I’d prefer to be able to enjoy multiplayer of course, but at this point I’d be happy to see Infinite’s campaign succeed where Halo 5’s failed.
