Has anyone done this before? As of now, my name is KnavishPlum169, but I would really like to change to just KnavishPlum so that its the same across everything I use from PC games to other forums to mobile apps etc.
The issue is that its reserved because KnavishPlum is one of the random Xbox names. I never actually made a name, this is the name LIVE randomly gave me back when I started on 360. I liked this one, kept it and now use it for everything that needs a username, minus the 169. I have debated about going to Xbox support about it, but I feel like it would be a losing battle, so I am wondering, has anyone else tried to do this? or am I one of few who keep the randomly generated name?
Xbox, some months ago, freed up many unused Gamertags that had not been active for years. For a brief time, some original GTs (the kinds without numbers that had to be created really early) were available for use again. Whether Xbox will do something like that again is unknown, but I don’t think Xbox is going to just free up a GT because you ask for it. You could always ask, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

I thought that was for inactive live usernames? not the names used in the generator…

Don’t talk to Support, they can’t do anything.
If the name you want is taken, just keep checking to see if it gets changed occasionally. But otherwise, you’re gonna be out of luck. Sorry.
I tried doing the same thing the other day mate, unfortunately if it’s being reserved for someone they own it for 5 years. There’s no way to tell when that 5 years is up either. Just one of those things, Microsoft will not release the username of the person who owns it either because of Privacy Laws. Sorry bro, stuck in the same boat as many of us here.
I kept my generated name but I still like the number, its become a part of who I am, in fact sometimes it’ll bother me if I don’t have the 918 in one of my usernames (across various places on the internet) basically I’m saying that maybe you should accept the number. Microsoft doesn’t care about how much you name means to you so they won’t do anything about it. but if you absolutely have to have the numbers removed then try contacting the profile that has the name you want. send a message through xbox live asking to change their name so you can modify yours but there’s still the likely chance they don’t use Xbox anymore.

I don’t even think KnavishPlum is a person… I have looked it up before and just did a quick check, nothing comes up on them, a random Rocket League stat with no stats along with profile checks on a GamerTag site and the Xbox site… nothing. If I type KnavishPlum into google, most if not all are links related to something I have done. There are a few that have the words Knavish and Plum, or one Deviart one, but other then that its just me.
Ill try messaging the account, but I don’t think ill get a response.
So I messaged the account, but I am 100% positive ill get no response as KnavishPlum does not seem to be an account at all. its there sure, but there is no live year, no pic, nothing. Again, I don’t know if its reserved or just blocked because its used in the generator, but I may ask support, no harm in asking.

> Ive had 3 gamertags that have all had the same rules. No excessive x’s, no numbers, and no misspelled words. I couldn’t live with having ANY of those.

search them up on an xbox related site, they show up on waypoint. if its not showing them on google that just means they don’t use the name for anything else. this could either be a good thing because the name doesn’t mean much to them, or a bad thing because they may be inactive and might not recieve your message.
Well, I guess that is it then. I am going to take snickerdoodles advice. Support probably cannot do anything. Even worse, the account is not active, don’t even think it is a player made account. There is no game history for it on here or other xbox sites, it seems to just be an empty account with no purpose so getting a message from it is a faithless endeavor.
Maybe one day it will free up, or not, but until then I guess I am stuck. Also, just curious. it there like a site where it just shows all active names in a list form? I am curious if there any other KnavishPlums on Xbox one as I seem to be the only active KnavishPlum I can find, there are others, but most seem to be inactive 360 accounts or completely inactive and like one xbox one account that’s also inactive.
