I used to be an avid halo wars player, despite a few of its flaws I felt like it was a very unapprictied game. When getting your friends together for 3v3 it was probably one of the most fun games I’ve ever played. I always wished I could take control of at least one of my Spartans and play with my army rather then just command. I don’t know if it would be possible, but if the ability to have first person control over your fractions leader could be made that would be amazing. Anyone else feel the same?
The Covenent leaders had a “take command” feature, but anything like it shouldn’t put the player in a first person perspective. Who would control your troops? First person control might work for a tower defense game, but for a real time strategy game, I think it is too gimmicky to add any real depth to the game.
It’s a real-time strategy game. Keep FPS elements out of it. They are unnecessary and detract from the RTS experience. These aren’t two genres that complement each other. It’s one or the other.
You can’t maintain control of your economy and units while in an FPS view, which is the entire premise of an RTS.
