take a page out of GoW4 and BF1

Having played all the Gears and all the Battlefield games, I can say that they have stuck to the player’s main mechanics for the most part and have maintained their popularity.
New weapons, characters, enemies, maps, and equipment have all been added in each additional game in the series but the playable characters don’t just randomly gain abilities without any explanation. That’s what I love about them and despite buying a brand new game I know I have the security blanket of knowing that those core abilities will stay consistent. H1-3 kept fans because the spartans kept the same formula, with maybe the addition of a flashlight or more pockets for grenades to your armor, hardly any difference. You walked, jumped, crouched, and zoomed the same as the previous halos.

Halo has always been my go-to. I’m a die hard fan and you are welcome to look at my time playing the games. I think I had 24 days logged online in h3 in just matchmaking. Did I like reach, h4, and h5? Yeah, I had some good times and they all have great aspects of their own. I loved invasion, warzone, regicide, extraction, dominion, etc. They were great additions, but all the stuff I listed about them wasn’t the armor abilities or the new scope mechanics.

343 you can change halo for the better, but don’t unnecessarily change it. And also don’t take stuff out for no reason (split screen, awesome game types, weapons, etc)

I’m not mad, this is just a plea to please just make the next halo game HALO. Like I said before Gears of War fans know what they’re gonna get out of their characters and they dont have to adapt to a whole new system of play every addition of the series. but they DO get new maps, game modes, and weapons and that’s why they buy the new game.

There’s been thousands of complaints, rants, and strongly worded opinions about it all, so you know what I refer to when I say just take back the most hated additions. It may be a solid game, highly rated, etc but it’s not Halo and it’s not played, and compared to any blockbuster game out there, it seems like Halo is actually the least played. And I know for a fact it’s the least viewed on twitch (feel free to check for yourself). It was trailing American Truck Simulator in viewers last I saw … wow.

We just aren’t a blockbuster anymore and I love Halo and I want to see it thrive again at the top and whether the community disagrees on some of my points or not, I know they want that too. Whether you like the new Halo or not, it’s not getting the job done. People got it, weren’t impressed and like 40% of the starting population consistently remains. Some aren’t ever coming back. So I’m not saying don’t bring change, just don’t make us completely adjust to completely different spartan every game.

I do have to say, as someone that plays and owns all the Gears games, that the basic/similar mechanics throughout the series is one of the best things about the series. Other than a few nuances here and there, you can basically play Gears 1 or Gears 4, and only have to learn a few new controls, as the mechanics are very similar.

Battlefield and CoD is also a decent argument, but as games that release iterations yearly, it makes more sense not to mess with the formula (or a lot of things honestly), so that the fanbase can stay the same and they can all continue to sell more copies of the game than they should.

One of the things I always complained about in Halo was how the controls are constantly changing. Like flying a Banshee? I don’t think there are any two games where the controls are the same for that thing. In Halo 3, I press a button to use the bomb, but when I use that button in Halo 2 I fall out of my Banshee into oblivion.

I agree completely.

And we’ve seen this problem before with other franchises. Look at Resident Evil(or Biohazard, if you’re in a country that titled it that way). Believe it or not, there were a ton of fans who loved the original “survival horror” style of the Resident Evil games. Then, Resident Evil 4 came along, where they decided to completely change the gameplay forumula. It was a popular game that sold well to the masses, but at the expense of the original fans. It was downright depressing though because its popularity meant that we would never again see a RE game true to its roots. Capcom decided to run with this new formula of “action horror”, or whatever you want to call it. They released RE5, which took this formula to ridiculous levels, and the sales dropped. Then they decided to double-down and continue this trend with RE6. Once again, sales dropped even further and even more fans left for good. Finally, it looks like Capcom is learning their lesson with RE7 and going back to a traditional horror style. But, the damage is done. Even if the game turns out to be fantastic, so many of the original fans are jaded and skeptical about it.

I really wish 343 could learn from these other developers.

I agree with what everyone has said. I don’t know what to say to add to anything other than times have changed

Gears is very similar to halo.

People are fighting each other. (Pendulum wars = Insurrection)
Aliens (Locust = covenant??)
Zombies (Lambent = flood)
A super weapon to end the war ( The Aliens-b-gone machine = installation 04b I think)

I’ll be honest I thought I was gonna get a lot of hate for this but glad all of you agree. Now let’s just hope 343 sees
