Tactical Slayer - Rework

Not sure if anyone from 343 reads this but I need to vent an this seems like the place to do it. So Tactical Slayer has to be the worst it has been in any Halo game and I think I have boiled it down to a few problem areas.

  1. Manglers and Stalker Rifles are too powerful both these weapons kill so fast that precision isn’t required. This is Anti-Tactical Slayer this mode has always been about who has the greatest accuracy and reflex’s when someone is able to run round spamming for a 2 shot or 3 shot kill it ruins the point of the mode. I would recommend lowering the damage on both weapons to make them harder to spam.

  2. Tactical Slayer has too many modes. When I think of Tactical Slayer or SWAT I think of DMR/Battle rifles and in the few times I have played Infinites Tactical Slayer recently I never seemed to get the Battle Rifle to Combat clutter I suggest grouping weapons into modes and having Stalker Rifle/Manglers in one and BR/Sidekick in another. this will allow for more choice when playing as well as removing unnecessary modes. Although in other Halos you would have a Magnum SWAT the sidekicks fire rate is too fast and again leads to spamming and why I would believe it is better as its name sake suggests as a secondary.

  3. The Commando. Fully Automatics have no place in a precision game mode and should be removed completely. I understand this is meant to replace the DMR and is still a fairly accurate weapon but its Fast fire rate and bloom make it too unpredictable in practice.

  4. Finally Melee Damage. This is the smallest gripe on this list but I preferred SWAT when it was 2 hit melee back in Halo Reach it suited the mode better and allowed players that extra chance to get the headshot before being killed. Not only does this again play into the mode being about accuracy but also leads to less trade kills over all.

Hopefully someone at 343 sees this and is able to implement a few of these suggestions into the mode.

I hate sidekick swat, it’s the most toxic and unfun thing I’ve been forced to play yet in Infinite.

I just hate the gun more than anything, but all the trashy bugs and whatnot in this game just scale it up to 11. People shoot you before either of you see each other, Xbox players crossmap spam it and land every shot, there is no red reticle on pc so every fight is a guessing game, etc. I just hate it.

I love Commando, Mangler, and Stalker swat, I’m pretty good at getting headshots with all 3.

This is so absolutely true! Except instead of messing with the balance of manglers and stalker rifles, just take them out entirely. Same with commando. I loved when it was 80% Battle Rifles with some Magnums sprinkled in. I loved perfecting my skill with a DMR so much in halo reach and 4. All this random stuff makes me so mad and there’s nothing tactical about it. I literally play it for the BR’s and have played 14 games in a row with no BR. Also totally agree about melees.

Enforce input filter or remove this playlist from the game.

The problem that keeps presenting itself when people make posts like this is that people are seemingly assuming tactical slayer = SWAT. Have you ever considered that maybe it’s not suppose to be the same thing, and is suppose to be it’s own thing?

Maybe instead of requesting changes for tactical slayer to be Swat, you should be requesting for just Swat be added itself? A lot of people like the variants to the game mode just as is.

The threat sensor and drop shield should be treated as power weapons in Tactical Slayer imo.

It doesn’t really super sway balance, but adds a little traditional Halo flare where there’s a map position and power item to fight for control of every now and then

Solid points. Tactical slayer is just garbage overall. Desync and no anti cheat make it unplayable.

But it is 343s signiture to not adress gameplay issues and make a fun game but rather focus on a reaching a broader audience.

Which for some reason they can seem to reach. I wonder why. One of lifes greatest mysteries i guess.

I don’t mind the side kick, but mangler, commando, and stalker rifle I’m completely over. I jump into swat wanting to just do some BR swat and I NEVER get it anymore. I get mangler all the friggan time and it drives me insane and I’m at the point where I wish they would just remove all the damn different gun types and just give us classic BR swat.

I’d actually like to play a tac mode where we have normal load outs and no shield. It’d be interesting playing this with grenades and auto rifles. You could lob a grenade at real dug in campers.

I agree with a lot of this, though I will say that they gave the playlist a different name so I’m willing to respect what it is, but I do agree that mangler/stalker are pretty bad weapons for the mode. I also thing that the sidekick is stupid for this mode, it’s not the magnum.

Additionally, I think that tactical slayer needs its own suite of smaller maps. Maps like launch pad are entirely too large and lead to camping and sniping which makes the mode lame. Tactical slayer is like the spiritual successor to SWAT, maps should be small, and game play should be chaotic while trying to net those headshots.

Bungie always increased the player’s damage resistance in SWAT to make body shots less effective. That alone would fix a lot of issues with Infinite’s Tac Slayer. Even the BR kills too easily with body shots in Tac Slayer, it only takes two bursts.

That said, I’ve never liked SWAT without shot leading. The Mangler doesn’t really simulate it well, because of networking issues and projectile drop. But if at least the networking aspect were fixed, I think Mangler SWAT with increased damage resistance would quickly become my favorite version of Tac Slayer.
