Are they the same gun? Because they look, fire, sound and scope the same.
I’m pretty sure they are different, since the M6C/SOCOM uses the C-type Magnum as a base, while the Tactical Magnum uses the H2.

But according to Bungie’s ODST Field Guide, the defining characteristic of the M6H was the nickel finish, the Tactical Magnum isn’t Nickel Finished. But the color of the pistol probably isn’t reliable enough for it to be a different gun. However, isn’t cool that they are visibly identical?
I thought that the ODST pistol was the halo 2 pistol with a silencer and the tactical magnum was the halo 5 pistol with a silencer.

Well, yes, the M6H Magnum has a nickel finish. However, the M6H2, which is used as the base for the Tactical Magnum, does not have the nickel finish, as demonstrated by the basic, Gunfighter, and Tactical Magnums in Halo 5.

Isn’t here also the up-sizing? the two should look different, but the SOCOM and Tactical are identical.

According to Halopedia, both C- and H-type Magnums are up-sized by 17%.
I wouldn’t quite say that they look identical.
- Tactical Magnum - M6C/SOCOMThey are definitely very similar, owing to the fact that they are both part of the M6-series. However, they do differ quite a bit, as you might be able to see. The Tactical Magnum is obviously an M6H2 with some attachments, while the SOCOM is clearly an M6C with similar attachments.

Ah, thanks. So it’s a spiritual successor more like?

Pretty much, yeah, since it basically fulfills the same role.
Not the same gun, same series but not same gun. M6C uses armor piercing rounds which I’m Halo dies little to no damage. The M6H2 I recall uses explosive bullets like M6D but not as powerful.
