There is a huge problem with all these events for me, and that’s how much I don’t enjoy the game modes that they use for them. Last Spartan Standing, SWAT, Land Grab, Fiesta…all these frustrate me in different ways.
The last fun event I remember was the Attrition one, because imo Attrition is the smartest addition to the game they’ve made so far. My friends and I have been wondering why they refuse to make it a playlist, and the few that still play Halo say the same thing…that they would probably play a lot more if there was an Attrition playlist. It has such a low weighting in quick play, and the population seems so small, that we never get it when we try to search for it.
Anyway, Last Spartan Standing is annoying and I hate it, even though I’m not terrible at it. Even when I’m doing good it makes me angry.
Attrition was pretty decent. Fiesta was okay. The SWAT and LSS events have been the worst, mostly because of how frustratingly tedious the challenges were/are. And I actually like SWAT.
Land Grab I actually really enjoy. As a gametype I think it’s great-- exactly the type of team objective I love-- and the challenges for it were super easy.
I’m going caravaning this weekend (sub zero overnight temps forecast - eek!)… and this will bite hard into my play time. But I think I might try and give it a shake tonight and tomorrow.
I’m neutral on LSS. So fingers crossed the gods of challenge selection look favourably upon me.
Your video made it look a lot of fun. I’m tempted to give LSS a try. I did grow to enjoy it last time it was an event but the challenges and desync make the game so frustrating.
LSS I actually enjoy and I wish 343 would return just general FFA Challenges like they had before instead of Rumble Pit only so I could have a reason to play LSS more. Land Grab I’ve kind of warmed up to. Fiesta and SWAT are okay.
Attrition is probably my least favorite but even then its really just ‘meeeeh’.
The only thing that I can say that I hate is when I finish an Event that involved me mostly playing Land Grab or Fiesta for the entire week…and then next week comes around and a lot of my Challenges are Land Grab or Fiesta-focused. That does get on my nerves.
I think this is the key here. If you want to force people into game modes they might not enjoy, make the challenges reasonable. The Land Grab challenges for Entrenched I think have been the best so far. Spend time in zones, capture zones, complete games, and some kill or assist ones thrown in. Most of those could be completed fairly painlessly.
Kill X amount of Spartans
Get X amount of accumulative score
Play X amount of games
Get X amount of headshot kills
Get X amount of melee kills
Get X amount of back side blows
Outside of the last one, these aren’t really hard challenges to do, or did I miss another or something? Maybe the previous LSS events had different ones that I don’t remember or something?
I could see it being tedious if it where things like “winning x amount of wins in LSS”, “get x amount of Battle Rifle/Sword/environmental kills” or something other to that extent.
Previous event was on Breaker only. This time it’s got the BTB maps with vault weapons, and they changed the weapon loadouts which was a mistake IMO. Old drops were better too.
If I wanted the rewards I’d just reroll to get Camber Recon. Seems the easiest way.
Already I have had Butlr AI when I have CIRC equipped. So annoying this beta.
I usually get a few melee kills every game, exp when you first spawn and only have the disruptor to use.
Backblows are a hell of a lot more difficult because once your spotted by an enemy, good luck getting one lol. A lot of the BTB levels you can usually see well before they’re in melee range. Once they see you they’re not going to be turning their back to you.
I try to never go for melees because it’s too easy to trade and the game is inconsistent you might just do no damage at all. The melee challenges made me play bad as a result but I got them done.
It’s not hard to kill people with the Disruptor honestly, the gun is way stronger than most people give it credit for.
The backsmack challenge made me so angry. I could NOT get them to count. I would clearly hit someone running in front of me square between the shoulder blades and it would just do basic melee damage, if I was lucky. I came close to just swapping the challenge.
I only mentioned the disruptor because when you spawn into the map at the start, that’s the only weapon you have. You don’t have a secondary gun yet. So if your in a dual with someone and you are unable to kill with shots alone, you’d probably be best to rush in and go for a melee, even if it’s a trade and you both end up dying, you’ll at least get a kill for yourself. Which is usually enough to upgrade to getting an Assault Rifle.
and yes, after a few post the other day, the disruptor is underestimated a lot by people. Seeing how several people complained about it being the first gun you start off with in LSS.
I completed the event but I had two matches where melee kills didn’t register for my challenge. It was basic melee too, not backsmack.
Usually what I do for backsmack is go for those desync backsmacks that shouldn’t happen. Basically melee everybody you see until you proc it by accident. It’s fairly reliable.
