Tac Ops Challenges

Need Mangler kills but got a BR start instead?
Just leave the match and queue another.

Nothing I’ve done myself.
Since most people are nearing the end of the event I’ve noticed more and more people leaving games. Now I’m not saying it’s solely because of people not getting the weapon start they need but I can definitely see it being a factor of so many people leaving start if match.

These “get this type/amount of kills with a certain weapon” challenges HAS to be by far the lamest thing ever.

I would fix this by just having…

“Get 15 headshots in a PVP match.”
“Get a double kill in a PVP match.”

And if you’re going to have challenges that have to do with a certain game type

Simple challenges that don’t require a certain game mode, MAKE THE GAME MODE ONE WE CAN SELECT INSTEAD OF QUEUEING IN FIESTA.

Nah… I actually care about other peoples fun and enjoyment in the game to be a poor sport about it. I was able to complete the entire weeks challenges as well on top of things without having to be one either.

To bad I really don’t think I’ll ever really use that visor though. No armor coats really work well with it. I usually use my clean Yellow and Blue Coat, with my Red Visor anyway…

Pretty much every game I played tonight had people quitting as soon as the game loads in or within the first minute. Many games ended up being 2v3, 2v4 or even 1v4…the worst case being a whole team quit and was awarded a win without even a shot fired.

Quite frankly this is pathetic, and it is entirely down to 343i and how they have implemented the challenge system. We can blame the players but the root cause is that the challenges create this behaviour within the players. Challenges should engage and encourage players to perform well in every game…not change or adversely influence the way we play the game in order to complete them. This is an issue created by 343i and they need to change the way they are doing challenges…it’s not like the community hasn’t clearly voiced their opinions on this…it’s just 343i are not listening.

I think I got a mangler match every 3 or 4 games then my brother can on to do some challenges and we got another few mangler games.

I’d suggest if you’re not getting mangler matches, take a break and try again a bit later.

Quick question… feel like I’m going mad. The final reward ‘helmet accessory’ how do you equip it I can’t find it in the armour hall?

Edit:
I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw the challenge get headshots in a swat game type.

My favourite challenge/s so far in this event has been getting a double kill or triple kill.

Now they are good challenges.

While I wound agree to an extent, I feel this challenge would be more widely accepted if people could get manger matches more regularly when it requires them to get mangler matches. I do feel that 50% of the problem still lies on how the community as a whole often disregards the rest of the community and only values their own time as well. I see this type of mentality in just about every game I play now-a-days, and Halo Infinite is definitely no different.

Just out of curiosity, what types of “challenges” would you suggest that wouldn’t drive people away. Because unless the challenges are literally “don’t leave matches”, I honestly cannot see people not just jumping ship the moment they see that they didn’t get what they wanted. The challenges should try to nudge people into trying new things as well, and not just sticking to their favorites all the time. That’s one of the point of challenges in the first place, along side being an actual challenge that isn’t merely just a push over. If they don’t challenge the player, then they might as well just be renamed “tasks” lol.

I could easily come up with a substantial list of challenges that would achieve this if I could be bothered to do one…but I can’t be bothered and that’s the job of the MP team at 343i.

Basically anything that doesn’t require a specific double or triple requirement especially if it’s in a rotating gametype playlist (ie X number of kills with Y weapon in Z playlist). These types of challenges are more likely to cause players to quit a game if it doesn’t satisfy their challenge criteria. This is RNG taken to extremes, and those other RNG challenges that rely on other players need to go too (ie killjoys, assists or flag returns).

People are quitting ‘cause they don’t care about winning. I played 20-30 games of SWAT in the last week and the only game I cared about winning was the one where I had to do the challenge ‘win a game of SWAT’.

If they want to stop people quitting they need to take away the challenges and have a mini progression reward system where you gain XP from winning games and achieving medals double kills, triple kills, killing sprees etc…

The they can hand out rewards at certain progression levels…. Then in my profile it could state I’m a major/captain/general in SWAT. So it shows my proficiency. It could even go as far as how many matches I reach my rank in. What K/d I had in the event and how many medals I obtained.

That would give people a reason to play to the end….

Unless of course they rage quit through getting slaughtered. But that’s okay.

Well, since it’s already getting close to the deadline, people don’t even have a chance do they? It’s now becomming the ‘either quit matches you don’t need or don’t get the challenges done’ moment of the week. If the challenges are just that enormously time consuming, you will eventually get this when the deadline comes. And part of the problem is that you can’t do every challenges when you want to, since you only can do 3-4 at a time and the game decides for you wich ones.

Well as a starter they should be way less time consuming. So they need to be less specific and you need to be able to do more at the same time. So don’t make it only 3 at a time (4 when bought a premium BP), but raise it to 5 (6 when bought premium BP).

  1. ‘Weapon’ challenges:
don’t get specific weapons, but combination of weapons. Every weapon is coupled with 1 or 2 others (the powerweapons are all clustered ofcourse), where only 1 of the 2 spawns in the map. So make it that the challenge also reflect that combination and you therefore are able to progress on that challange almost every match (some maps are still missing a combo, for those you should need less amount of kills then). You would then get the following possible challenges, with both an ‘easy’ and ‘hard’ variant:
  • 10 or 15 Starting weapon kills (AR and sidekick)
  • 5 or 10 Pistol kills (mangler, disruptor or plasma pistol).
  • 5 or 10 Tactical rifle kills (BR and commando)
  • 3 or 5 SMG kills (needler or sentinel beam)
  • 1 or 3 Launcher kills (hydra or ravager)
  • 3 or 5 Shotgun kills (heatwave or bulldog)
  • 3 or 5 Energy Rifle kills (stalker rifle or shock rifle)
  • 3 or 5 Power weapon kills (Energy Sword, Gravity Hammer, Skewer, Sniper Rifle, Rocket launcher, Cindershot)
  • 1 or 3 Pulse carbine kills (not in a combo or on every map, but realy bad at killing people)
  • 5 or 10 Grenade kills (independend from the type of grenade)
  • 5 or 10 Melee kills
  • 3 or 5 Vehicle kills (either with the vehicles gun or as a splatter)
  1. Equipment challenges:
there currently is only 1 equiment challenge if i’m not mistaken and that is to graple an enemy from far (getting a harpoon medal) and then getting 1 or 3 of them. I would broader that challenge to:
  • 1 or 3 Equipment based medals (Harpoon, Odin’s Raven, Skyjack, Mind the Gap, Pancake, Whiplash, Achlilles Spine, Boom Block and Sneak King, Return to Sender)
  1. Total kills / Score challenges
The problem here is that it is just to specific, so that you have to play the very same gamemode over and over again. This makes it boring and keeps people in gamemodes they hate. Just arrange them in categories and i would remove the 50 kills or 7500 score ones, since that is just to big for a single challenge (you could do them for ultimate challenges though):
  • 15 or 30 kills in Slayer type matches (Slayer in QP/BTB/ranked, Tactical Slayer, Team Slayer, Fiesta Slayer)
  • 15 or 30 kills in BTB
  • 15 or 30 kills in Arena matches (4v4)
  • 2000 ot 5000 score in Objective type matches (Oddball, Strongholds, CTF, One Flag, Stockpile, Total control)
  • 2000 or 5000 score in BTB
  • 2000 or 5000 score in Arena matches
  1. Objective challenges
Like MCC make it so that there is just an overall objective challenge and not the highly specific one. In MCC it was about getting objective medals, but those are rare in Infinity. However, in Infinite you get points for doing objective related stuff, so make every time you get objective points count.
  • 10 or 20 Objective achievements (Flag returns, flag steals, flag caps, flag carrier kills, kills as flag carrier, planted power seed, stolen power seed, first touch in oddball, holding the oddball for x seconds, get a kill with the oddball, kill the ballholder, capture a zone, secure a zone, kill from within a zone, kill someone in a zone)
  1. Performance challenges
Remove the luck based ones or the ones that require you to get killed (killjoy or distinct killing sprees) and just focus on the ones that achieveble for everybody and that can be stacked, so:
  • 5 or 10 multikills (double kill, triple kill, overkill, kulltacular, etc.)
  • 3 or 5 spree medals (killing spree, killing frenzy, running riot, etc.)
  • 10 or 20 assists (being the driver when someone in the vehicles kills also counts towards this)
  • 3 or 5 proficiancy medals (bodyguard, bomber, boxer, breacher, driver, gernadier, gunslinger, gunner, heavy, marksman, pilot, rifleman, saboteur, scattergunner, sharpshooter, spotter, tanker, treasure hunter, warrior, wheelman and wingman)
  • 5 or 10 skill medals (back smack, chain reaction, dogfight, guardian angel, harpoon, kong, odin’s raven, reversal, skyjack, snipe, splatter, stick, ballista, bank shot, bulltrue, cluster luck, death race, fire &forget, hail mary, mind the gap, nade shot, no scope, pancake, perfect, pull, rideshare, tag&bag, whiplash, windshield wiper, achilles spine, autopilot engaged, boom block, grand slam, interlinked, nuclear football, return to sender, sneak king, ninja, quigley, remote detonation)
  • 3 or 5 style medals (flying’ high, from the grave, last shot, mount up, quick draw, reclaimer, special delivery, grapple-jack, hold this, lawnmower, mounted &loaded, off the rack, party’s over, pineapple express, ramming speed, shot caller, yard sale, 360, combat evolved, deadly catch, driveby, street sweeper, fastball

Just log into MCC. I guarantee you’ll find the types of challenges you’re suggesting. Stuff like placing in the top 3 of the match or having a positive K/D.

From a money perspective, I’d leave it as 3 for F2P players and double it to 6 for Payers. That’d be enough incentive to get the BP beyond the Reach armor imo. Which does bring up the question: Do payers lose this benefit when the new S2 Battlepass drops?

I think the combo should reflect the medals: https://www.halopedia.org/List_of_Halo_Infinite_medals

This is fine, although I would mind if the BR was added only so this can be completed in ranked and the BR is a perfectly acceptable starter weapon. Ideally what counts as a “starter weapon” should change depending on the mode (even fiesta), but that’s a pipe dream.

This should include the Sidekick. It’s a pistol and it technically shares a pad with the other 3. We just hardly see it since Ranked Aquarius is the only map that does it.

This should include the Rockets and Cindershot and have its requirement raised. All of them are classified as launchers and it makes the likelihood of find one of these guns simpler.

I’d change this to “Get kills with sniper rifles” since the Shock, Stalker, Sniper and Skewer all contribute to the “Sharpshooter” medal.

Despite the last two points I made, I think having a challenge specifically for power weapons could be a good idea. I don’t think there is anything wrong with overlap. That said, have a challenge for “Get kills with Tier 2 weapons” or “Tier 1 weapons” could be good too. Obviously the requirements would need to be hire or lower depending.

And Sword/Hammer kills should be their own thing.

Actually it is in a combo. It’s with the AR classified as an “Assault Rifle”. We just never see the combo because of AR starts and in Ranked, pads don’t rotate. Even then, it’s not a good killing gun, so chances are most of your kill here would still be with the AR. Personly I’d rather see and challenge that takes players with stripping shields (not killing) with plasma guns (specifically the Pulse Carbine, Ravager, and Plasma Pistol).

This also leads to using faction weapons (UNSC, Banished, and Forerunner).

This is fine, although admittedly, I don’t mind grenade stick challenges. Grenades respawn super quickly, you get 2 of them, and it teaches new players about the sticky properties of the Plasma and Spike.

And it shouldn’t matter if it’s a melee, backsmack, ninja, Sneak King, or whatever.

This might make it too easy, but I’d add driver assist to this as well. The driver is just as important as the gunner in certain vehicles and feel it’s wrong to block the driver from completing challenges just because they’d rather drive. Yes, they can get splatters, but trying to go for splatters is usually how you get your hog flipped. Also doing it like this would allow parties to progress at the same rate since the driver earns whatever the gunner earns. But it’s not that serious since they can just switch seats.

Don’t forget Tag & Bag.

Also I’m assuming you meant “Grapple Jack” since skyjacking can be done without a grapple.

I actually don’t mind the 7500, but it becomes a problem when it’s used in slayer modes, because it’s basically is asking for 75 kills since kills and assist are the only method of earning points. Also 7500 point for any modes played is appropriate I feel.

The weapon ones i didn’t make based on medals, but on how they spawn on the map. For instance if you have the map Bazaar, the weapon spawner in front of the big doors has either a needler or a sentinel beam, so those weapons should be in the same challenge. For those combinations i just used the combinationnames on a site where i looked at the maps, so don’t take those names as a given (that is why the ‘pistol’ combination doesn’t have a sidekick, because the sidekick isn’t in the spawner that either gives you a disruptor, plasma pistol or mangler).

For the rest:

Ofcourse, those are all melees

I disagree, the driver assists should just count as assists, it isn’t a kill.

Ofcourse, i forgot those

there’s an easy af sollution to this… GIVE US AN OPTION TO QUE FOR CERTAIN MODES
like swat manglers instead of RNG (343 really loves rng) and let us select the maps for the specific mode too…
how would that work? Team Fortress 2 says and shows that such a thing is possible… 343 is just lazy

I think we’re on the same page.

Fair enough. And like you said they can just get splatters.
