“So, what do you reckon ?” Orlan looked at Adrian.
“Well, I am interested in the game that Mr. June is playing. There isn’t much in the setup, but I am worried about the execution. If we are going to recover weapons, should like entire fleet follow us?”
“From last I heard, Reach, like Earth, are still safe from the Banished, but I understand your concern. May I ask, what is the AAB?”
“Well, the Asymmetrical Action Group. Officially, we worked behind the enemy lines or in front of them, depending on the setup. Think about them as the Counterintelligence/Guerilla Department of the ONI with a more dark background than the Beta-5 Division, an AAB parent. We did things, which I am not incredibly proud of, and the devil didn’t outweigh the good, and soon, the Hounds were made,”
“You mean the peacekeepers? Oh,” Orlan bit his tongue when Adrian didn’t answer his question.
“It’s a long way from Earth to X58. What brought you there?”
“I got caught in the marketing lie. After I became Spartan, I was promised a thrill of war and adrenaline, but reality turned out to be a popularity contest. Spartan Four program and classes are just a popularity contest. I am not comfortable in the spotlight, so I stayed in the shadows, which I now regret, and after several issues, I was removed from the frontline combat and sent to the X58, and I have been stuck there ever since,”
Both Spartans knew that both are omitting important facts, but the mutual agreement struck between them.
“Did you ever had a chance to go and visit Earth? I had never seen the human cradle in my life,”
“Well, down on Earth, UNSC is the only way out. Of course, I could get an office job or collect garbage from Moscow’s streets, but stars always called out to me, so I enlisted when I turned twenty. How did you end up with the UNSC machine?”
“As an orphan, I roamed my home planet G89, and soon I ran around in the power armor; little did I know what I got myself into. The Threes’ purpose was to be cheap to train, manufacture, and sometimes suffer a hundred percent casualty rate since ONI and UNSC viewed us as the ultimate expendables, giving us the hardest to the point suicide missions, like Battle for the Drevan Settlement or the” Adrian noticed a total silence and as he looked around, he felt that entire mess hall is looking at them.
Approximately two hundred eyes were on him, awaiting him to finish; even the ship’s Commander had entered the mess hall with his security detail.
“Thank you for saving my life at Drevan Settlement, Spartan,” one of the marines stood up and saluted, “Sadly, I have to report that two others, which you had rescued with me, had died in the field hospital shortly after. Thank you again!”
Moments later, words of praise, thank you, and loud clapping filled the mess hall, and ETA Commander brought two Spartans another ration of the ice-cream.

As UNSC ETA docked next to the UNSC Infinity, Orlan had to pick his jaw from the floor. The majestic super-carrier rendered into the view, followed by several frigates and two destroyers.
“Rumor has it that they are building UNSC Eternity, a sister ship of the Infinity, but I don’t know when it will be commissioned,” Adrian handed Orlan his black spartan standard issue bag waited for Jun to appear.
“It is my first time seeing a super-carrier. Look at that array of cannons. This ship has more firepower than the entire X58 planet and its two moons Xi and Yia. Just wow!” Orlan stuck his face on the window, taking in his surroundings, and even Adrian nodded his head.
“So, where was your training? If I am right, Spartan Four is based on the UNSC Infinity,”
“You can call Infinity the main campus, but it is not limited to the one location. There are training grounds on Earth as well, but those Spartans, unless instructed otherwise, stay there and defend the Earth. I was instructed otherwise,” Orlan smiled," Have you ever visited UNSC Infinity?"
“Few times, but I was there for the state of the art simulations. Apart from regular training, team deathmatch or king of the hill game modes were used to pass the time. I don’t know for how long we will be there, but they should let us try it,” Adrian looked at Jun, who emerged from the corner," or not,"
“Maybe next time then,” Orlan looked at Jun, who walked past them, giving them a hand signal to follow him, and a moment later, Orlan took his first step on the board of the UNSC Infinity.

Navigating white and grey hallways of the UNSC Infinity proved to be relatively easy thanks to the floor terminals, but the worn-out feel started to make its way as the trio entered one of the medium-sized hangar. Three engineless Pelicans awaited their repairs, riddled with holes and shattered cockpit. Jun led the formation, followed by Adrian, and Orlan covered the rear. Marines, a few of Orlan’s peers walked by, the entire ship hummed like the beehive, until a Gen.2 Scout Spartan emerged into the view, followed by another four operators and service personnel.
“Everything alright?” Adrian halted Orlan as Jun joined the Spartan.
“No, and it is about to get even worse,”
“What is about to get worse? You know that female Spartan?”
“Commander Sarah Palmer, my part-time former CO. I defined her order, thus saving the suicide mission and ten other service personnel. When we returned from the mission, we had a little fight, after which I was transferred to X58,”
“Well, you took the initiative and saved the day. I don’t see a problem,”
“The problem stands in the Command itself. Before the Blackout and the Guardians, UNSC was heavily centralized, but now, they realize that decentralized Command is a way to go. I was almost court-martialed. I accepted my mistake and paid the price, but she didn’t. She is the Spartan Four Program poster girl,” Orlan looked at Adrian, who sat at the large black crate," anything?"
“I know her, Orlan. You are not the only one who has a past with her. Let’s not be vocal about it; we are on the sketchy mission anyway,” Adrian’s ironical tone of the last part of the sentence forced Orlan to laugh.
“What happened?”
“She wasn’t always a Spartan; she was an ODST and rather a good one, earning her a quick climb the ODST ranks. Palmer says it best. I love my job,”
A moment later, Jun and Sarah Palmer joined the two Spartans, and after Adrian shook hands with Commander, all eyes were on the Orlan, who formed a fist with his right hand behind the back.
“So, Mr. June is telling me that you boys are heading for the Reach. I have to say that it is a rather interesting band you got there. A rusty old-timer and,” Palmer looked at Orlan," and the average one. How do you expect them to perform on Reach?"
Adrian’s blood began to boil, but just like Orlan, he held the line as the brown-haired woman examined both Spartans.
“Exceptionally well. I believe that a few runs in the simulation will help us unless these two silent headstones say otherwise,”
“Mr. June, should I show the kids how it is done?” Adrian smiled, but Palmer’s squad got defensive, their hands raised, ready for the fight.
“I will see you in two hours. Our simulations are undergoing maintenance and software updates. The morale of the Infinity and my Spartan Group has been rather low, so this will be a welcomed distraction,” Palmer shook hands with Jun and vanished in the hallway behind them as her Spartans dispersed all around the hangar.
“Well, Three Vs. Four. I am looking forward to this fight. Here,” Jun pointed at the Terminal," Take these red cards and head to the Spartan Bay, gear up and I will see you soon,"
