Hello,
After Jervalin’s mind boggling accomplishment, I’ve set myself the challenge of completing Combat Evolved on LASO deathless. I’ve been playing each level and found most of them… not trivial but manageable.
T&R is my current run killer and in my opinion is probably the hardest level in the franchise. I’m looking for anything, even the tiniest trick you know to make this level just slightly more manageable. For example, is there anything I can unload in the outdoor area other than the group by the camo? And even for that group, what exactly is the trigger for the unload? Earlier I was happily bouncing back to my rock and turned the corner to get wrecked by the elites that were supposed to just drop dead.
Do you know any good places to lure enemies to marines to get the biggest bang for each precious sniper shot?
The biggest issue I feel I’m gonna run into (besides ammo) is that a lot of the normal speedrunning tricks become unviable if you can’t reset. I can’t try the wraith bump which could kill me or just plain miss. I can’t rely on the god-door or the grenade jump out of the hanger. I’m looking for mostly ways to trick the game into unloading as much as possible. Infinite ammo is not possible in this level at any point.

Try using the HCE mod tools and view all the level triggers and see if their is an unseen opportunity to skip segments. AFAIK if it isn’t detailed on YouTube I don’t think these forums would offer much more in terms of skips and deloads.
Try watching Halo completionists walkthroughs which detail the best strategies for fighting the covenant.

Yeah, I’ve seen all the YouTube videos analyzing each of their strats. Most of them rely on fairly consistent Bruce force tactics. Similar to speedrunning, sometimes the easiest way to do a part is to get a checkpoint and just run through until you don’t die. Obviously that doesn’t work, although I did pick up a few things here and there. They also all tend to disagree on exactly what causes certain triggers.
Is there a current halo modding community somewhere? When I Google “Halo CE modding forum” I get inactive subforums or ancient dead communities. I play on Xbox, and don’t own a Windows PC. Maybe I’ll rent a vm for a few hours and play with it.

You would have to join a Halo modding discord. I think a few modding YT tutorials have links to join some in the description.
The CE tools can be downloaded from steam with no extra cost. (Other Editing Kits require you to own the game on steam, but CE is the exception). I think they have modding forums there, but I wouldn’t know. AFAIK the tools will have to run on a Windows machine.

Tbh any halo game deathless with skulls has been around since 2001. It’s just the FNG’s that realized this was thing as of late.
Skulls were first introduced in 2004. All the runs from back in the day weren’t recorded well and are liable to be cheated (like Cody Miller’s runs). The greater interest in the feat is better for all.
Edgelord clearly has no idea what he’s talking about, it wasn’t actually until 2011 that skulls were added to CE. And nobody was doing deathless runs back then, “running the game” wasn’t even a thing.
Why do kids think they discovered games that are older than they are? No edgelord, I’m not a new guy, I was posting on HBO while you were probably learning to walk, you realize some of us have literally been playing this for 20 years right?

Years buddy. Years and years.
Well hello from someone whose played for decades and decades.
I’m pretty sure you’re wrong here though. I think you’re either remembering the old days wrong or you just joined too late. You could still have been playing for a decade now and miss the initial boom.
I remember when just beating it on Legendary without dying was a big deal. It was actually a fairly long forum post with a lot of prominent players. When H2 came out, it still wasn’t completed because I remember the threads overlapping. In fact, I think Cody Miller “beat” H2 on legendary before someone finally completed CE. Pretty sure it was around 2008 because that’s when ai was most active on HBO.
The tricking community was also super small at this time, maybe a few dozen active members. Even though CE skulls weren’t introduced until 2011, occasionally posts would crop up asking if some level was even possible with all skulls on. Usually some ideas might be thrown around but ultimately we always assumed some of them were just plain impossible. It wasn’t an official difficulty so no one really played it, we just used the skulls to explore. We didn’t even call it LASO, it was “mythic” back then.
Seems most major strategies came out after MCC came to PC, which is why I posted here since I haven’t kept up with all the strategy changes.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I actually watched an old segmented speedrun from a decade ago looking for ancient forgotten knowledge, but they actually ended up doing an old shade trick If forgotten about that’s not viable me. I’m looking for the ancient Going Nowhere Fast videos for strata but they seem to be lost to time.
Ya know…you did bring back memories that were buried in the archives …I remember going to the mall late 90’s early 2000 and getting tossed advertisements for Microsoft’s (NEW EXCLUSIVE CONSOLE)…in fact I still have a flyer talking about Munches Odyssey and Halo lol omg
Good luck on your journey and I’ll be rooting for you to complete your challenge!
… with “Hanging by a Moment” by Lifehouse over the malls speakers. Yeah, those were good times. Oddly I don’t remember much about Halo before actually getting it. I remember Fusion Frenzy being hyped and I remember my Xbox was bundled with some crappy racing game. Must have been Xmas 2002. My US copy has one of those Game of the Year gold stickers on it, so it had already won a bunch of awards when I got it. Weirdly my PAL disc doesn’t have that, but obviously I got that one second hand.
