While watching the halo 4 trailer for the millionth times yesterday, the symbolism in the halo 4 trailer dawned upon me. Let me explain
Chief opening the cryo tube-- represents the reboot of the series. Microsoft wants to restart halo and it also represents the fans’ urgent want of master chief. Everybody wants the chief and he’s coming back.
Forerunner plannet- I represents the modern gaming industry to which chief will fight. Chief is getting ready to take on many top AAA titles which have come to prominence during his absence.
FoD- the burning ship represents halo’s condition. Halo is on a downward spiral and chief must save it or perish.
I think you may be reading into this a bit too much though. I don’t think 343i want to cryptically tell its fan-base that Halo is dying, nor do they want to reference the current state of the gaming industry. To me, the trailer is as simple as Chief continuing his journey.
However, if somebody like yourself can symbolically look into something as medial as a game trailer and apply your own meaning to it, then I guess 343i are doing something very right indeed.
but symbolism is also very prevalent is the halo series, and 343i have been teasing us so much like in the halo cea terminals, i think it would be possible
All I know is that, seeing Master Chief in the trailer is going to bring a lot of old fans back. Just a couple days ago I saw some people who I know haven’t played Halo since Halo 3 watching the trailer with anticipation.
So us long time fans and the people who only play the main story should really be in for a treat!
I think the inclusion of inadvertent symbolism may be too unlikely.
Like I said, anyone can read into the trailer and apply their own meaning, such is the legacy that Halo has left.
In my mind, the trailer could symbolically show the timeline of events in John’s life. The pulsating of his heart being his birth, the exiting of the Cryo-Tube his re-awakening as a Spartan, the interaction with Cortana showing the dependence that others hold in him, the floating through the fire being his life as a Spartan, and his looking over the edge of the sinking ship being him looking to what the future holds.
The trailer hits hard, and I am glad that people hold different views regarding it, but in my opinion, it is unlikely that it holds any ulterior meaning.
John is John the baptist Cortana is the holy ghost and I just put my a###### fist through my monitor. there is a ton of symbolism out there I just wish HALO would beat up on all religions equally it does seem to favour a western symbolic vocabulary, I am glad they did not call the arbiter the dervish. that would have polarised things to much. keep it fuzzy use Norse Greek Egyptian Mesopotamian ect (dead religions)
I really wish they would drop all three of the Abrahamic religions out of the equation, well as much as can in game called Halo where all books must be canon. I know where you can put your canon.
