Just wondering what you guys think about this. I was watching some MLG footage when I caught this- about 1:14 in this game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcQWCGpcPAo- where I thought a guy blocked his sword slash, but he was killed nevertheless. I just wanted to know if you think this means there will be no sword block.
Hmmm, I dunno. I love and hate sword block. It’s like a rocket launcher. If I’m using it I’m happy, but if someone else uses it… God help you all.
Ha, ya, I agree. I just don’t know if a gun or arm should be able to block plasma, that’s just kind of weird.
The Sword Block can just go away. I hated it. It took skill to get the Sword and the stupid block can pretty much mess you up and kill you when you get sprayed at when the opposite team comes.
From what I’ve seen the sword is harder to hit with. I saw a lot of miss swings in the MLG gameplay, so if its harder to use then sword block should be removed.
I hope there’s no sword block in Halo 4. It’s completely illogical and it ruins the flow of the game.

Ya, definitely if it is harder to use it should not be in. I don’t think it should be there even if the sword is all powerful. I think the clip shows that it is not, and am therefore super glad.

it needs to stay otherwise like i have stated before the sword needs to be able to have a counter in CQC if it does not its too powerful the RL has a counter its called splash damage the hammer has an delay time between hits but the sword is overpowered and sword block put it back into its place
I certainly hope so; it made no sense canonically and was fairly cheap. The Energy sword is like Star War’s lightsaber, as it can cut through most organic and inorganic matter and is generally cool as -Yoink-. But sword-block just ruins that. I mean, how exactly are your arms or the butte of your gun supposed to stop searing plasma? Like lightsabers are the only think which can block a lightsaber, the energy sword should be the only thing which can block an energy sword.
But like I said, this doesn’t just ruin the canon behind the energy sword, but also the gameplay as well. The fact that you can block an energy sword through any conventional means weakens it and makes it less threatening. When an opponent has an energy sword, the idea is that you shoot him down before he can lunge at you. Blocking through any weapon just ruins that classic feeling.
Well, I hope it’s in.
> Well, I hope it’s in.
I’m curious to hear why you think that. I have an open mind and I can see the previous argument that it would be overpowered without it. I just don’t think a CQC power weapon should be so useless against skilled players in CQC.
I don’t like sword block but you have to remember that sprint is default now, making the sword extremely powerful. If the sword was to stay with the same range as reach it may become to overpowered, so the sword does needs to be nerfed somehow.
a sword should still be able to counter a sword like in halo 3 but in reach wtf
“Because of Sword Block, the Energy Sword in Reach is useless!”
LOL The Energy Sword in Reach is still a power weapon, I still get Killing Frenzies with that thing, and I rarely get sword blocked, and I rarely manage to sword block other people. It’s a difficult thing to accomplish, let alone master, and if gave you a small chance of surviving for just a few more moments; the chances of surviving those few moments you gained by killing the sword-wielder is also pretty slim.
I think it should stay, the sword block is pretty well balanced.
I wouldn’t like Sword Block. Parrying with another sword should stay, though.
With a run capability the sword needs to be nerfed somehow…I mean, dash + lunge + unblockable…you just can’t defend against that.
In halo 2 & 3 this wasn’t an issue, because the sword player had to be close before they started towards you else they were gunned down, but in TU Reach… if you see someone running at you with a sword, no matter how close, all you can do is let out a couple of obscenities before you’re killed.

Huh, I actually agree, this makes a lot of sense. I would get pretty pissed if I wasn’t able to block a sprinting sword wielder. I think it may work out in Halo 4, but it seems to me that the video shows it is not.
Look at how melee combat system in AVP 2010 turned out. So no.

Its weakness is that you need to be in the persons face to kill them, if a person with a gun is at decent distance your dead.
Sword block? Heck no. Sword clash? Heck yes!
