Switching between 3rd Person & 1st Person ?

With Halo: Infinite nearing

How many of you would like the ability in Infinite to be able to switch between 1st and 3rd person

For me I would like this, as IMHO 3rd Person shooters give you more of an immersion factor, in the character you are playing

I would love it. 3rd person perspective has always been my preferred view, others are going to disagree though, for many reasons. We’ve had this discussion on our forum before.

Oh ok, I have just really joined, even though a Halo Fan for ages

As much as I like 3rd person video games, Halo has alot too many gameplay mechanics to be 3rd person. With all the emphasis on weapons and accuracy, do you really think 3rd person is a good idea for Halo?

We have 3rd person in Halo when we enter vehicles and lift turrets. The idea has already been implemented but only in those scenarios. I see no reason why it cannot be an option overall.

That’s only for less focused scenerios.

I know, but it’s still in the game. I get it, Halo is an FPS etc etc. I would still like the option to switch view though. Even if it’s just in campaign.

I can see a Halo Third Person Shooter video game happening in future Halo installments especially if it’s part of the Halo spin off video games.

First thing that comes to my mind, is a 3rd person camera, like ā€œGhost Recon: Future Soldierā€, over the shoulder, and when you aim down scope, it goes to almost FPS, depending on the gun

Also in Halo 4 (5) when deploying things, like Hard light shield, Drone, Healing bubble, etc

Give me first person driving/flying then we’ve got a deal.

Ah yes, I remember the warthog passenger going in first person view in Halo CE! Couldn’t hit [Yoink!] due to the bumpiness of the ride, but it was awesome regardless!

I have always felt violated that we have the sickest looking armor in videogame history, and yet, we cannot even see it in combat. I feel however that the main problem with 3rd person view is that it gives you a small look behind you that makes you very hard to stealth kill. However, I think it could work if it was either only added in the campaign or it was pretty close to your head in multiplayer, giving you a kind of slightly zoomed in Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017) look. This would allow stealth killing while giving people a view of their armor.

Edit: Overall, even though I prefer 3rd person, Halo would not be the same in 1st person. So I actually would rather skip it except for vehicles.

I am not a fan of the idea, the moment you add third person you have a whole new variety of gameplay mechanics to balance around.Suddenly people can peak around corners without being vulnerable themselves.

I’m not saying it would ruin the game, but I’d prefer that 343 makes a good Halo fps out of Infitinite before trying to turn it into another style of game.

Perhaps in certain multiplayer modes, its locked to FPS. Campaign and Firefight being able to switch between 1st and 3rd, as I agree with the comment ā€œThe sickest armor in any video game universeā€, it would be great to actually see it more, and admire it, in normal playing, not just cut scenes and getting in and out of things

I think if Infinite came out as a third person game the world would end. No cap.

???
How?
How is it more immersive to view your character as if you were an external bystander instead of literally looking through his eyes?

That being said, personally I wouldn’t mind adding it in as an option, as long as it’s campaign-only. If this were added into multiplayer, it would screw up the entire concept of even starts by having two different FoV’s.
The problem then is that this will result in a slippery-slope where (new) players would start to complain about ā€œWhy can’t I play 3rd person in multiplayer when I can in campaign? This is inconsistentā€¦ā€

Even though Halo is a FPS, I’ve wanted this as an option since Halo 3. The closest you can get is by going to Theater mode and spectating your spartan from 3rd person.

But really, I feel like that’s kind of unnecessary. Halo is well known for its FPS gameplay. I feel like making it 3rd person would sorta ruin the experience. And 3rd person completely screws up assassinations. It can stay on vehicles, but that’s it.

In multiplayer, players who’d choose to not use it would be punished with less visibility of their surroundings. For players who would use it, they could see around corners without exposing their position.

At least in the multiplayer, this should never happen (minus vehicles and select weapons).
