Can anyone give me some tips and tricks for SWAT? I’ve been wanting to reach diamond for awhile now (I’m only gold 4) like i said, any advice on gameplay and improving my skills would be appreciated.
Don’t sprint and try not to walk around corners…jump or boost so somebody doesn’t cap you if they’re waiting for you or see you coming. Keeping yourself alive longer helps your teammates identify where the enemies are even if you only hold out for a couple seconds. Just my 2 cents

I agree. Also never try to assassinate others.
Another will kill you before you’re finished, or right after you’re done.
Wait in an area with good sightlines and let them come to you. Not saying to camp in exactly one spot, but no point in running around getting shot around every corner when you can at least limit your blind spots
Aim for the head baby and fire, fire, fire, even add crouching to your movement you’d be surprised how much it throws a person off.
I would say definitely don’t sprint in most scenarios because it’s harder react and put your reticle on someone if you’re caught sprinting.
Keep your reticle at head height while moving around map. That way you’re ready for anyone popping around a corner.
Hold power positions on the map so that you have the advantage when the other team pushes off spawn. Examples would be top red on Pegasus, top pink and top carbine on truth, and top snipe on coliseum.
Watch twitchnaptimes’ streams. He’s a top tier champion swat player. You could probably learn a lot about how to position on a map, what are the good spots too sit, map movement, good sightlines, and so much more.
Watch your Six to make sure the enemy doesn’t get the drop on you. Make sure you know the where the enemy is or where they will spawn, Aim for the head & don’t spray & pray, Sprint less & don’t go for the assassination
Team up! If you solo match, you are just rolling the dice. When you team up and get to know each other, you will find that things will get better.

- Don’t sprint - Jump around corners - Have your reticel at head height - Only thrust after killing two players(after your thrust is gone you’re a sitting duck) - Watch your teammates - Slide alot - Never spartan charge or groundpound - Crossmap - Expect someone around every corner 9/10 there will be - Never move your finger off the triggerIt is a team game but, I never stick with teammates and do just fine so do what you want.
Here’s my tips, straight to the point:
- ALWAYS keep moving . - You see someone, you start shooting . - You get hit, get out of the area.Carry on.
I’m not a phenomenal Swat player, but I’ve picked up a few key things that can apply to Swat in any Halo: never sprint, never clamber, never assassinate. Try to avoid zooming in if possible to max out your field of view (this is just a preference of mine).
Additionally, always make sure you have your gun pointed down range when going down a long hallway. Don’t let yourself get distracted by a teammate or a fight nearby; turning your head for a second will give you a disadvantage. Other than these things, Swat just takes lots practice and reflexive memory.
I’ve been playing for some time on swat for a couple years from Halo 3 to Halo 5. Here are my tips and tricks,
- Only sprint when necessary(Reduces the time to aim and align your shots)
- Use callouts for your team(Callouts are the name of areas in a map, they are located under your radar)
- Be prepared with your finger on the trigger, and predict spots of enemy sign
- Learn how spawns work on various maps(Spawn killing is ok as it happens a lot in swat)
- Try a custom game of swat with friends or do “Open” to practice so u don’t lose your ranking and work up on things u need on
- never assassinate, wastes time in a match and hurts your teams score as u are easily vulnerable.
- It’s ok to punch if too close as shooting close won’t help if they punch you
- Learn the common areas of players and use it to your advantage
- If you want a better rank then work on getting positive k/ds and less deaths. Also losing a match or to lower ranked players can demote your experience of your rank further resulting losing a rank.
- Never push or rush to enemy spawn, it can make them scatter and break your team formation.
- Stabilizing near ledges or corners above head level can help trick enemies watching head level, so u could get a shot before them
- Also Don’t worry about “Spartan Charge” as it is useful against running Spartans close to you.
- Try playing tactical, it helps your team if your in a party but using game chat might have enemies hearing you so :T
Some of these I learned from my favorite swat champion “Twitch NapTimez” twitch.tv/Naptimez
He streams often almost everyday and playing with him would benefit you as he can teach you a thingy or two.
“Aim for the head”
I have read all the replies and don’t want to parrot what everyone has said already. All advice given has been excellent. However, I would like to add one thing. There is a maneuver I am currently working on perfecting myself that has a disorienting effect on the opposing team. Though I normally would discourage jumping you CAN use jumping to your advantage. While in a shootout with 1 or more opponents. Jump one way and strafe (thrust) the other direction. Your opponents will be inclined to follow your initial jump with their reticals in anticipation of the next shot. But when you thrust the opposite direction it throws then off for a split second which could give you a just enough time to get the head shot first. It is very effective in SWAT but will take some time to master. Adding it to your play style will definitely help improve you play
aim for head, shoot gun
