Sure we are early in and a lot of people are giving it their best to be competitive and such. Here is what I am fearing for the 1st “reset” Onyx or Diamond players playing intentionally terrible to get a Bronze or Silver… then run BeastMode for a few weeks to get back up to Diamond or Onyx. What does this potentially do? It would place people in classes their skill level doesn’t warrant for the sake of lamb basting lower players and flexing their K/D. Since certain Spartan Companies are hunting for Talent imagine the guy that got Onyx after his 1st 10 and has been holding a 1.1 K/D against the superstars of Onyx. Meanwhile supertanker eventually winds up in Onyx but because of the road he took he has about a 5.8 K/D. They might have the same talent but everyone would worship the -Yoink-.
Will 343 put something in place like a one or 2 medal demotion tops? Because the talent is there. His previous rank is proof the talent exists.
A casual playlist would also be an answer to the supertanker because he could just fulfill his bloodlust fantasies in that mode. Granted there are 100 better reasons to add a Casual playlist than Super tankers.
This is legitimately concerning for newer halo players, There’s always going to be bottom feeders looking for easy kills. We’ll have to hope they monitor everything when the reset happens.

I would know the 5.8 k/d player doesn’t actually play like that. REALISTICALLY and if you’re only matched up vs your own skill rank your k/d should be 1.0-1.5. So I really don’t care if people boost like they did in other halo games. It will still effect those who actually do play worse yes, but really there’s not a good way to stop boosting as someone good can play like crap if they really wanted to just to get in lower divisions.
Do you see where this is going? This Ranked stuff is a dangerously slippery slope. How do you even ensure that people are playing to the best of their ability and getting ranked accurately? Do you implement a demotion cap, like you suggested? Do you ban people for looking at enemies and not shooting them, or simply for doing poorly? If someone was previously Diamond level and is purposely tanking at a Gold level, do you bump them up to Onyx to punish them for insubordination?
There is nothing wrong with casual, unranked playlists. Everyone will experience the refreshing variety of playing with (and against) players who are both better than them and worse than them. If a playlist has to be ranked, at least make it optional, and make it so that your rank goes up if you have a positive K/D in kill-based modes, or if you’re in the top 50% of a points-based mode, because those things are a better indicator of skill than simply being on the team that wins.
I just wish games would let playlists run free, away from the shackles of skill-based matchmaking. You might play against a full team of pro’s or a full team of scrubs, or a mixture of the two, but you’re never going to get stuck playing against people of your own skill level for all eternity, and no matter what happens, you’ll always be free to quit and find a new lobby if you don’t like the one you’re currently in. If there’s one way to restore the appetites of the bourgeoisie and kindle the ardor of the proletariat, it’s letting them decide their own destiny.
