in halo 3 it it still didn’t take down that much shields, i want it like that again not too much but not too little power

You have 100 points of Shields and 50 points of health if I remember correctly. A melee does 100 points of damage in Halo3, Reach, and Halo4.

In Reach, your shield had to be completely depleted before you could take damage to your health. So if you had even 1 point of shield left, you could basically “block” 99 points of melee damage and stay at full health.

In H3 and H4 there is bleedthrough. This means that any extra damage after the shield is taken down applies to your health. So if you had 1 point of shields left, you would take 99pts to your health and die. This means, if you have half shields or less, a melee will kill you.

I believe all damage had the bleedthrough mechanic in halo3. However only some things do in Halo4, you should go find a list.

Actually Halo 3 had 115 hit points: 45 health points and 70 shield points.

This has been a constant problem since Halo 3. For whatever ridiculous reason, Bungie/343i doesn’t understand that Melee attacks promoted much more skilled gameplay when it took 3 hits to kill -_-.

The damage ratios should be adjusted to 60 points of Shield, 40 points of Health, with each Melee Attack dealing 40 Points of True damage.

Bleed through is great, the reason it may seem so off is because reach did a number to it with their shield mechanic as some of the above posters mention as well the br and dmr take 5 shots where in 3 it used to take 4 shots for a kill this also adds to the perspective of kill time with melee… I think you need 3 dmr/br shots on someone to melee kill them. This mechanic just doesn’t feel right when I get in 1v1’s which is why I think they should make dmr/brs 4 shot, remove insta-spawn and shields recharge slightly faster… basically halo 3… what can I say? it felt good in 3 why would that nature change?

I disagree. I loved the health system in Reach. Bleed through is inexact. In Reach, yeah you could shoot someone up and go for a beat down and not kill them, but you knew what you were getting yourself into every single time. You could never beat someone down and kill them without first popping their shields first. No matter what. Smart people adjusted and didn’t go in for a beat down unless they first popped their shield. Silly people would just spray and go in for a beat down and then get mad at the system. This increased the skill gap imo.

In other Halos, the bleed through made it exact. two people spray an equal amount and sometimes one party came out on top. It adds a bit of randomness. I honestly preferred continuous the double beat down death of Halo 3. At least that was somewhat reflective of the health situation. In Halo 4, not only do beat downs not always register, but weapons have drastically different beat down speed, zoom, width. The utility weapons stand little chance against say a suppressor. There have been several times when I have shot someone 4 times with the br or dmr and then gone in for the beat down against someone with an automatic weapon and they killed me despite me hitting them as well.

The reason for that is because the system works so that the player with the calculated most health/shields remaining is not killed by the other player’s Melee, even if it could do enough damage to kill if uncontested. Reach did this too, if you managed to back away and get a body shot in, before meeting for a second Melee attack, you would win despite your shields also being down.

Try reversing your Melee/Shooting order. With Precision Weapons, if you want to beat an Automatic, the way to do it is to Melee THEN shoot, that way you get the headshot, which is an instantaneous finisher as opposed to them needing to hit body shots with their Automatics.
