Super Fabulous Forge Ideas

I’ve recently been a pretty heavy Forge user. I mostly have been making maps for customs or remaking the lame MM Forge maps to be not quite as ugly, Enclosed anyone? So, while making all this nonsense over time a friend and myself have come up with many ideas.

Ideas by BigCookiez and Instacover.

#1 Water blocks
Simply just various sized blocks with a water texture. If you go inside of it your view will be as if you’re under water. An upgrade to this would be adjustable sizes like you can do with teleporters, kill zones and safe zones.

#2 Simple glass/No sun glare
I’m thinking just thin glass pieces/blocks. Broken glass pieces would be awesome too. I’d also enjoy it without the mega-crazy sun glare too!

#3 Night variant
Each map, or just the “Forge World” map, should have a night version. Infection could be much cooler and it would double Forge potential without a doubt. At the very least a better FX ball replicating night. We could even have a whole playlist dedicated to night maps. So fancy!

#4 Four lights (at a minimum)
So many maps feature a Red, Blue, Green and Orange side. It sure would be nice to have lights for all them. Two lights is just unacceptable and a downgrade from H3 even. Seriously, how could they add more light colors and lower the amount we can use?

#5 Better colored blocks
Only a small handful of structures in Reach show off the “Object Color” feature. I remember when they were showing the feature off for the first time before Reach came out. I was stoked of the idea to make maps more vibrant with color. They really slapped us with this feature.

#6 Death/Stopping barriers
Before starting a game of Forge or Customs we should have the option to turn off all types of barriers normally found in maps. I miss exploring the outsides of maps, looking at all the weird terrain and texture funkiness. The Forge idea behind this is to enable us to make maps outside the maps and save them that way. I’m sure we could see much, much cooler maps from this feature alone.

#7 Elastic/Stretchy barriers
These could be adjustable zones like teleporters, kill and safe zones. I always thought it would be neat to place this kind of barrier.

#8 Natural thingies
More rock types, logs/sticks, trees, flower patches. Maybe even various heights/sizes of dirt/grass mounds.

#9 Grass blocks
Various block sizes with a grass texture. You could make your own golf course for Action Sack or something. Neat!

#10 Flatlands
A section of the H4 Forge World should be a decently sized flat land. FLAT. This encourages the items of numbers 1, 8, and 13 especially.

#11 Seasonal Forge World
Since Infinity takes place on a Holo-deck that simulates the battlefield, why not have a seasonal Forge World? Using all the same pieces of building material in each season, but differently textured as snow, desert, Covenant, UNSC, Forerunner. Of course, not all of them are necessary, I’d like to see snow and Covenant versions myself.

#12 Copy/Paste/Undo
Please?

#13 More scenery
Empty drop pods (place weapons in them?), dead bodies (static, of course), various technology pieces (computers, generators, TVs), wood pallets, barrels, dumpsters etc… Lastly, all vehicles (Scarabs and Pelicans too!) in a destroyed/on fire state.

#14 Round pieces/Tubes
Seems weird they missed this in Reach, hmm.

#15 Better coordinates
We all know even identical items don’t line together properly.

#16 Wood blocks/ramps
Reflection gives me inspiration, and yet… I have no wood. :frowning:

#17 Weather
Rain, fog, snow, thunder and lightning. This idea fits very well with my night maps idea. Fog would be sweet for Infection! Remember Backwash from H2?!

#18 Adjustable man-cannons/lifts
All we ever needed was one cannon with adjustable properties. Give us the option to go 5ft or across the universe!

#19 Explosives
Bigger fusion coils and plasma batteries! MORE POWER!!

#20 Full terrain editor
Yeah. You know.

#21 Scenery v2
Holographic stuff like the globe in Reflection.

#22 Doors that open and close
I assumed it would be easy to implement. You simply create an adjustable trigger zone and link it with the “door” object. When you walk through the trigger zone the door will open.

#23 Various colored blocks
Like wool from Minecraft.

#24 Less detail in the blocks
Too many objects in Reach’s Forge have too much detail. Too many have sloppy textures that were clearly rushed. I would enjoy less detail and smoother blocks.

#25 Ramp, stunt
Do you know that object? It is a perfect example for the wish of #24. So smooth and less detailed! That’s noice, real noice!

#26 No budget
(I realize this is in place for performance reasons.) There has been countless times where I could’ve built so much more over the limit without losing frames, I know it! It’s all about proper placement of objects and not cramming a bunch of silly jimmies everywhere. If you think about it the limit doesn’t make sense. The worst we could do to ourselves is freeze the Xbox (oh no!) The only problem with this I see is if 343 wants user created maps in MM and a bunch of people submit maps that freeze. Sure, that sucks, but you’re also limiting the possibilites of great forgers infinitely.

#27 Underwater section
H4 Forge World should have an underwater area. Something like you’d see from Bioshock. This encourages the use of #1 since you could create your own flooded rooms!

#28 Low/High gravity zones
Create a zone with adjustable gravity properties.

#29 Slippery block
A block that is slippery!

#30 No armor ability zone
An adjustable zone that disables armor abilties of your choice.

I’ve only included ideas that really make sense. Obviously we can’t have feature that cuts premade blocks into any shape, or objects that auto-rotate and move around. They are good ideas, however. I’ve heard plenty of things that are too cool for school, but sadly could never see the light of day with a simple editor like Forge. I believe at the very least 3/4 of these ideas are possible and maybe even being implemented without us knowing!

Anyways, happy reading and I’d like to hear any more ideas.

Copy/Paste/Delete, Group All, and Seasonal Weather options are all I want for the new Forge. And plenty of forgeable maps with flat ground.

This post really deserves a reply; you clearly spent plenty of time putting it together.

Don’t worry, I’m quite confident that Forge 3.0 will include some pretty great additions and improvements.

Chief among them being the ability to use Forgeworld maps online without splitscreen framerate lag or the Gauss cannon glitch. Those two alone pretty much killed the potential for Forgeworld to ever be as awesome as Bungie had envisioned.

Plus the gray. Sheesh, makes me glad I’m not colorblind.

I’m confident in 3.0 as well. The improvement from H3 to Reach Forge is massive, excluding a few oddly chosen downgrades. So we can only expect just as much this time as well.

Another good idea would be electrical signs with custom txt, like they have in the campaign missions, such as “EVACUATION” or “WARNING”
