“Suicide” has been replaced by “self-destruction.” I guess Spartans are robots now.
I guess it’s a trigger word for some people, I have no issue with them changing it. Doesn’t affect me either way.
Super whack

Just gonna be weird to adjust to after decades of hearing “Suicide!”

If they actually had our Spartans blow up I wouldn’t have an issue, but hearing “self destruct” and seeing your character just collapse normally is weird. Maybe they can use their brains and find a word or phrase that is more fitting

Or maybe have it set so that if you’re someone who’s triggered by the word suicide, you can opt to turn it off so you don’t hear it or see it on your screen?

That’s cool and all… until ten years down the line “kill” and “slay” are the new trigger words and get replaced by “neutralized” or something.

That’s actually a pretty good idea.

They could make another setting (since we have so many already, guess we can add one more) so that you can specifically filter out triggers based on a list of known triggers or just opt to turn them all off and it switches trigger words with ‘safe’ words.
I feel like this is just a giant nitpick to be honest.
Don’t get me wrong, I understand the history of Halo having “suicide” in the game but is it really that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things?
You can call it a suicide if you wish, it’s all the same anyway.

Yeah, its really not a big deal just a little annoying honestly. The gameplay itself is great and I’ve really been enjoying the flight so far.
Suicide and self-destruction are pretty much the same thing, the only reason you associate it with robots is because of movies and whatnot. For people who have had to deal with suicide in their life, I don’t think coming to Halo for an escape and hearing the word really makes those people very happy. It’s not hurting anyone, though it’ll take some time for vet players to get used to it.

Yes, this does not affect the gameplay or anything too important. However, I believe it’s the nostalgia that’s mainly making people nitpick. For me, it doesn’t matter, but to others, they want it to stay. I say just add in a option to either have Suicide be said or not.

It’s best they changed it honestly. Seeing/hearing a word increases your likelihood of saying it and we know how that goes with gaming. Suicide is a serious issue in the world and somewhat censoring it in gaming outside of using it in awareness is a good thing.

I like this too, why are forcing everyone to deal with censors when the individuals who don’t want to see whatever it is, can easily turn it off? Its like we all have to suffer to accommodate a small minority.
Don’t care. I found “what a shame” from the Buck announcer in H5 better anyways ;).
This seems so nitpicky. It doesn’t affect gameplay or story at all and I think is a change for the better especially for those who are struggling with mental health, which is a major concern in the world.
People who don’t want to be reminded of friends and family committing suicide probably don’t want to hear the term “SUICIDE” blared at them like it’s cool and edgy like it was seen as in the 2000s. I’m glad 343i is actually being sensitive about this.

Change suicide, then change anything that could remind me of what gender i am. Change killing spree, we just had a bunch of shootings here in the US. Please, no beatdown or assassinations cause JFK or LA riots where Don King was beatdown.
Ect. And so on, i know its not that big a deal but it will eventually be someone who is offended by something. Its all just random chosen outrage.
I don’t mind the change too much, mostly because on the occasion that I play Halo 5, my announcer is Buck and the line he says amuses me greatly. I think it’s “HO HO, ain’t that a shame” and it really makes me laugh. It definitely means I don’t mind at all when I accidentally fall off the map sometimes!
