Suggestion. Vidmasters should return.

Yes, you heard that right. Make Recon Great Again. There should be 7 difficult and challenging achievements that you’ll need to complete in order to unlock Recon armor. For example:

  1. Go through the entire match with more than 7 kills and not dying once
  2. Complete the warthog run in the end of the game (yes, it should be there) on legendary difficulty under 1:17
  3. Log in and make 343000 score overall on 7th day of any month
    etc.

Vidmasters, and use of the number 7 are both Bungie things (the term vidmaster is a Marathon reference), so it would be totally out of place for 343i to make these references. Recon is not so much a Bungie thing, but then again, there’s nothing special about the armor itself.

I think a collection of difficult achievements that unlocks something special is great, but 343i should (and obviously would) do it their own way with their own style of achievements and their own armor.

I would love to see something similair to what the vidmasters were, with 343 putting their own spin on things. Till this day there has been nothing more satisfying & enjoyable then unlocking recon in H3. Ive done the achilles grind twice & it doesnt even compare.

Hopefully something like this can get implemented!

Totally! It’s not so much the inclusion of Bungie though, it’s the point that we haven’t seen it done nearly as focused in a very long time.
The closest you can trace a real achievement set of armour, especially in Halo 5, is Achilles.
Doing all those company challenges is something to behold. If you think about it, the armour inherently becomes special in itself because of the fact that you won’t see it often. The average player can only dream of the day he’ll unlock the Achilles!
Its such a simple idea yet nobody does it.

Monster Hunter World literally has this notion built into it’s own gameplay, inseparable.
The game is about hunting monsters, and the purpose, look, defense, and abilities of the armour you get are tied the monsters you hunt, or in other words, the challenge you had to face to be able to wear that armour.

We shouldn’t really need to request 343 to add this cause it’s something that no game should be without, but there is still the fear that we’ll be shoved into our mouths another discontent lootbox system that means nothing towards REAL “pride and accomplishment” (a term that has been insulting used with regards to lootboxes and EA).

Lets actually have pride and accomplishment before comparing it from 343 to Bungie, because 343 arguably still has some lessons to learn from Bungie.
Not necessarily with everything, considering Bungie’s Destiny’s are decent but not really on the line of example-setting.
But still, you catch my drift?

To be honest, Achilles is a great example of how not to do it, because it’s not challenging as much as it’s just a huge grind. It’s a time sink that any set of players with enough time on their hands will complete eventually if they play long enough. It’s not something I would have fun (or really, even any interest) doing. An ideal challenge is something that can in theory be completed in a relatively short time, but in practice may take much longer due to lack of skill. Bonus points if it gets the player experience the game in a new way. I think the Annual Vidmaster is a great example of this. The SLASO challenge is also fairly good, though it starts to be at the upper end of how long you’d want the challenge to take. For something more creative, having to get a vehicle through a level on Legendary without it getting destroyed might be interesting, especially if not all terrain is driveable, requiring some creative solutions. Or for a multiplayer challenge, something like getting a perfection by only splattering opponents.

At the very least they thought of something that could offset the mess they made.
Again, vidmasters are probably the best way to do it! They don’t necessarily have to be of the same caliber Bungie made them in, but nonetheless have them.
I use Achilles as an example because it was the only helmet that retained any amount of value through it’s inclusion to today.
Helioskrill eventually got added into the lootboxes so anyone you see wearing that is inconsistent cause he could have completed all campaigns in the MCC on Legendary, and he could have played the game for years until he got it in a lootbox, or he could’ve gotten lucky early on.
Boring and uninspired.
It doesn’t mean they are going to do the entire achievement challenge with Achilles style grinding though.
Why would they do that?
